I watched some of his highlights from OSU, this kid is unbelievable. Fast, quick, and loves to hit. Give him the next four months working with Joey Porter as his position coach...my God I can't wait to see what he does

He was one of my favourites during the whole process. You can definitely just sit down with a bowl of popcorn and watch Shazier tape. He moves like Troy Polamalu - Always around the ball.

I dont watch Ohio State much (hate them) but when I did see them play against Mich State I though he was a safety the way he flew to the ball.

I remember washing him as a freshman. At the time I definitely thought he was a Safety with his movement skills. I know he is smaller than Urlacher but the similarities are there.

Same here. He's a great addition. I'm looking forward to seeing how LeBeau and Butler use him.

He better be good for where he was picked. I'm curious if Fuller, and Gilbert were still on the board would they still take Shazier.

Read on nfl.com that their draft board was basically Gilbert, Beckham, Shazier. Would have liked Gilbert, would have hated Beckham. But supposedly the Cowboys were on the phone with Shazier's agent when Shazier was on the phone with the Steelers.

Whose to say. There is a report out there that had the Steelers taking Gilbert or Beckham had they beed available. I don't know if it is true, but even if it is, I think that's a feather in KC's cap.

Rather than sticking to NEED and taking a Dennard or Cooks/Benjamin, they took the BPA on their board at a position of need in Shazier. They didn't reach.

I hated the pick at 1st. I was headed to Greensboro when I heard the news. Part of me felt like we missed on a solid cover corner. Part of me wondered, "why a 4-3 OLB", are we switching or is he moving to 3-4 ILB. I also wondered why, we already have a log jam at ILB with young talent: Williams/Garvin/Spence.

After a few days to think on it here are my thoughts:

ILB was a huge need, maybe bigger than anything else and I feel stupid for not realizing that and I think I'm a fairly smart football guy. Timmons is solid but he can't call the defense. Williams did a decent job but his limitations in coverage proved disastrous, with no-one able to call the defense AND play the position we were forced to remove a pro-bowl safety from his position and plug him as ILB......failure.

They met with Shazier at the combine. They then brought him in for a 2nd interview, this time most likely to test his football smarts to see if he had what it took to make the change inside.

My thing is what if Spence is fully healthy. He knows the defense. what about Zumwalt? I like his tenacity and inside play. Could Shazier be a safety? Big Nickel??

I now like the pick, if he has the smarts to run our defense and adds 5-10 lbs he could be a solid pro-bowl ILB. He is a player, we just have to fine out where he fits best in what scheme.

I don't get to brag much around here, but not only did I call the pick, but I'd been hyping this guy for a few weeks. ILB was awful for us last year, and has been since Farrior left. Shazier is a great fit for us, and, god help me for mentioning this, but he reminds me of a Ray Lewis type. He is always near the ball! He made over 130 tackles the last two seasons. His numbers are unreal from a measurement standpoint, and when you add in his speed it just made sense. If Heyward and Tuitt can bring some pressure this D will be much improved. Our LB 's could be a top 3 corps this year

You should brag. You were defending the pick weeks before it happened. Well done.

Ha! Ray Lewis is the comparison that I was thinking about as well, but I didn't want to be the one to say it.

OTAa looked great. He always around Tomlin or Butler as he should be. He's a "front row" type of guy that "buys in" & makes sure you know it. It was either him or Mosley and I think they chose right.

He's Urlacker 2014. The irony being that Urlacker was the face of Chicago's franchise for many years and has now retired. Chicago picked CB/Fuller @14, many thought our pick, passing on Urlacker's replacement.

    Good for us IMO.

urlacher was good but nothing special. I don't get the comparison. I'd have to say I'd rather he end up lambert like or your namesake the great ham.:smiley1::cool:

Well, I must admit I agree with with your last sentence completely.

    Re comparison:
Basically same size/wgt/speed and play, so yeah, I see it big time.
