I don't believe it is won this way anymore.

Today, It seems more fixed to the offensive side of the ball and if you can't wear down a defense by physically outplaying them them then the game is won by the team that takes advantage of matchups.

I watched the MNF game last night and the 15 yard penalty for personal foul against the cornerback for roughing was a disgrace. Once again Jaws and Gruden pointed out that in todays NFL you can't play cover and should just stick to man to man because it will not bring about the bone crushing hits which now continues offensive drives with penalties. Clearly it was not a penalty by definition of the sport but in todays soft league geared to high points and new record passing stats it becomes one. Gruden said if that is a penalty then Drew Brees should throw the ball on every single down because he will get those calls.

Face it, this game is not won on wearing down oppponents anymore. It's won on who creates the least mistakes and who takes advantage of those mistakes. Kinda like Chess.
