Reading the post's about the steelers draft pick last night was seriously disappointing. I have come to this site ever since it started looking to get opinions from other steeler fans I trust.

It's now evident that besides a few posters on here, the rest are all over dramatic un knowledgable football fans...and steelers fans!

People that don't realize that when the steelers draft a player who played OLB in college he'll play inside for the steelers. Were you all not steeler fans last year when we talked a nauseum about how Jarvis Jones was the exception. Steelers draft college DE's to play OLB for them...they have for years and years and college OLB's to play in the middle. Every steeler fan should know this by now. Instead of crying about taking another OLB and saying this means Jarvis is a bust...maybe you should realize they won't even play the same position? As a steeler fan you should know that.

The complaints about Colbert really show lack of knowledge as well to me. I'll give you the 2008 draft...then name me one other draft in his entire career with us that he failed to find talent? 2009? Nope! He drafted Ziggy...who just signed a 5 year deal with another team...as well as Wallace and K. Lewis....just because they all don't play here anymore doesn't make them not talented...and guess who noticed that talent....not Kevin Colbert right?

Sorry don't mean to come on here and just bash steeler fans, but sometimes...ESP. LAst night, The lack of true football knowledge gets lost and people come on here just to say shocking things like, it's over, everyone else got better than us...blah...blah...blah.

This was probably not a good idea to post this. I'll leave it alone but should it start turning into a flame war, it's getting locked. Remember, no personal attacks.

That said, I'll add my two cents, the reaction you saw last night was par for the course, you get it after loses and you get it after draft picks, try to take it all with a grain of salt. We're all just very passionate about our team.

I will also say that more then a "few" posters are knowledgeable fans, I'd say much more are then not.

    Carry on, play nice

yeah its nice to vent but be careful around here. I love this forum because of all the opinions. even though some of them make no sense to anyone. last night WAS embarrassing but we have more picks and I think people will calm down when we get a 6'8" wr and an even taller cb

Gotta agree there are a lot of knowledgeable guys here and I guess NFL network doesn't know football either because in his post draft interview it was mostly about him playing OLB for the steelers. He'll at first thought I was thinking why an OLB then it hit me he will probably play inside and that when I started to love the pick and when it comes to football I think I know what I'm talking about considering I've been part of football for well over 20 years now be it playing or coaching.

I didn't go through the whole draft post from last night, but if there were posters asking why we took another OLB, they aren't alone. Ed Bouchette tweeted that Shazier was drafted to play OLB and that would definitely mean we would not bring back James Harrison.

I always saw Shazier as an ILB, but I think he could probably play more of a hybrid/rover role anyways.

As pointed out, whether its the draft or after a loss on game day, emotions usually cloud over sound football knowledge. No big deal.

If I didn't think there were knowledgeable posters on here, I wouldn't come here. That just isn't the case. :towel:

I know you guys are right, I thought about not posting at all but I wanted to hear what people would say. It's understandable for the NFL network not to know ****...if you aren't the media favorite player or team they know nothing about you. That being said steeler fans that have been for years should know immediately that if they draft an OLB that size he will play inside.

This is almost exactly like Timmons, drafted with the same pick (15) and almost the same size....not the exact same player but very similar! he will help our defense a lot I believe.

But also what I said about Colbert is the main course, people on here or any steeler fan for that matter that thinks he sucks or just hasn't been as good since Cowher left are seriously having they opinions skewed by how much they love Bill

In fact this whole situation is a lot like when Timmons got drafted. A CB that the fans wanted and by all media reports the steelers did too was taken in front of them in both occasions. And also they drafted a smaller sized but speedy hard hitting linebacker that the fans weren't thrilled about both times as well...and the browns traded up and took a boom or bust QB with the 22nd pick each time too....history truly does repeat itself...and it worked out for us greatly the last time....here's hoping it does again!!!

i think why people dont like the pick is that they have a ton of young guys at LB already. do they need to get better at that position? well thats obvious, but the fact is they have a bunch of guys already and they dont at cb and wr.

Shazier might turn out to be great and if he ends up being the guy that plays next to Timmons and is just as good or better than that will be great, but that doesnt change the fact that they need help in the secondary and at wr.

theres still 6 more rounds and they will probably go cb and wr today, but hell maybe they will go qb and punter. the fact is as Steeler fans we all have our own opinions, but i think we can all agree on one thing. we all hope that the FO and coaches know what they are doing.

right now the Jarvis Jones pick doesnt seem like a good one, but lets see what he can do with a year under his belt. this team is in salary crisis and they desperately need a great draft to get them back to the playoffs.

well I guess I fall in your category for knowing nothing and I have a secret love for bill. which by the way I've made no secret that I am not a big cowher fan, so that throws your logic out the window right off the bat.

that's pretty tough to swallow for someone that comes in here and spouts that they are right and anyone without your opinion is wrong and they don't know football then, well you are full of yourself and IT. I can't even begin to want to express my opinion back to someone that is that closed minded, so why bother. if you don't frequent here because of people like me, I will lose no sleep over that. if you want to hold a conversation with others opinions, then I'm game, but don't say I know nothing about football, because I don't think your way about every person associated with the team.;)

I wanna see one reporter ask Colbert and Tomlin off the record the following question....would they have taken Fuller if he hadn't been taken a pick in front of them? Then gradually let it leak the answer. I'd love to know that one.

Shazier played OLB in a 4/3 but for us will play ILB.

Jones played OLB in a situation where he basically did the role that Harrison did...blitz every down. He was a good fit for that. I have heard people suggest he move to ILB as well. For me, he is where he needs to be, and with a good offseason, I expect to see marked improvement.

Yeah I see what you are saying. However I guess I'm in the few that believe this team is on the up! Salary cap situation will be much better in the coming years, they are getting younger and faster...and I really believe that there is as much talent on this team as any other team that would be considered a playoff contender.

They could use a WR but it wasn't a lock in need for the 1st round...they still have Wheaton whose young and talented and is trying to show some things this year.

I think people need to realize that Colbert said himself that it's the deepest class he's seen for WR's and CB's. So it's easy to see why they'd take a position they need in the first round that doesn't have a lot of talent to go around. They will wait until today or tomorrow to help out the secondary and Wr's because there is depth in this draft to still get a good player at those positions later...do you see the logic?

It's actually a really smart move...because Colbert actually is a very smart football mind. Deny it if you want but I believe the facts are on my side.

while i'm not overjoyed with the pick, i'm not down either.... there's a lot to like about shazier.. the kids a playmaker, and let's face it, speed kills and this kid is faster than most corners......

for me I think I just feel bad for vince Williams, who I happen to like, and wanted to see develop into a solid starter.
not to mention how it will effect spence's comeback and possible playing time if he is back up to speed, and cb is a more pressing need............ I know jean baptiste and desir are still on the board among others, but I was just hoping that we would bring some of the more talented guys into the fold instead of strengthening an already potentially strong position

lol....... who knows. with shazier's speed they might just convert him to cb....... anyone else getting carnell lake flashbacks (he was a lb in college)

I'm actually very very open minded. I didn't mean to attack anyones opinion per say...just saying I'm surprised that steeler fans didn't realize Ryan would play inside as the steelers have always drafted college OLB to play inside. Farrior was playing OLB for the jets before he came to the steelers...it's how they're scheme works. And to point out people get so dramatic like the seasons over because the steelers drafted this guy in the 1st.

The opinions i did attack tho were those who think Colbert hasn't done a good job...because I believe it's a fact he has....this team is still talented.

Also would like to point out that this does not spell DOOM for Spence absolutely. If he comes back and is the same player, He, Ryan and Timmons could all be on the field at the same time as they all have the speed to cover, so you have 3 guys on the field that can cover and are also better than a defensive back against the run....makes for a very interesting sub package possibility!!!

I wanted the BIG WR....I thought Evans and Benjamin where head and shoulders (literally) above the rest of the class as is comes to what the Steelers needed....

But if you look at my post in another thread....I had 5 players that would make me happy in the first....Evans, Benjamin, Mosley, Shazier, and Ebron.

Evans and Ebron where gone....I had Mosley and Shazier ranked about the same...but I normally try to downgrade Buckeyes so my HOMERISM doesn't get in the way.

I would have probably traded down....lost Shazier....but got Benjamin...and tried to grab Christian Jones to put next to Timmons.

I did not like Dennard at 15....Im on record here as having Dennard 4th on my CB list...(Gilbert, Roby, Fuller) and feel he was drafted about the right spot. I don't like taking the 4th best anything when I am picking in the top 15

I know we had the Colbert argument in another thread recently. I've always said his resume speaks for itself. He is one of the best in the business. That being said, he has had hiccups along the way for sure. I think alot of people have a hard time thinking we passed on Dennard when CB is such a glaring need. Well, I think alot of saw on tape that he was not a good fit for us schematically. I doubt he was a legitimate consideration. Fuller on the hand was probably in the mix.

For those wanting a CB, I would pretty much guarantee we will be taking one tonight, although, I am hoping not until Round 3. So everyone just take a deep breath and get ready for another exciting evening of the Draft!

I had my reservations regarding Benjamin and Ebron. I agree, I just never really saw anything "special" in Dennard's game. In my opinion, BOTH Dallas & Baltimore would have taken Shazier right after us if they could have. As I pointed out before, drafts sites may have listed Shazier in the 20s, but he was definitely higher on NFL Teams boards. Mosley & Shazier were the BPAs on my board at #15.

again there you go with YOUR facts. how about a franchise qb that's sacked a record number of times? is that a concern maybe? or as you say that talent he drafted only to get a year out of them and and nobody in the pipeline to step in. 1st rounders are fairly easy to pick, or should be. did we really get a first round 4 years out of ziggy? I could go on too. two full drafts without one player still here doesn't back up your current facts so well. I see many misses since he and MT have been drafting and the same holes in places we have been trying to fill for years now.

We get months to ponder the draft. That's a lot of time to decide who we want and what we need ... and to become very sure of what needs to happen. When it doesn't go like we figure it has to, months of build up converts to exasperation.
