It's not good since 2000 they have drafted 13 CB's and only 5 have started a game, Gay-48 starts Allen-10 starts Lewis-17 starts McFadden-35 starts and Taylor-169 starts. The worst pick was Ricardo Colclough in the 2nd in 2004 a complete bust never started a game.

I thought Joe Burnette, would have developed... but alas, no....

And we let Keenan walk.... definite mistake.

some of these guys we had were not top man cover guys at that time. we went for the zone cover guys back then more so than now.

Bryant McFadden was our last best pick at two. he was a decent man cover cb. his injuries never let him get on track and we never really went and found another to replace him. gay was a Band-Aid at that time and is in the form of what we used to draft, a #2 zone corner. ike was still our number 1 and cortez was supposed to really step in last year.

I don't think he's a number 1 though. gay is a nickel or dime cb like the role deshea played for so long.

a true number 1 is hard to come by with the receivers getting better and the rules they are now given. shut down is never going to happen. I'm not sure tez is a #1 guy though. nor was lewis.

The list needs to be since Tomlin, not before.

    I looked at this more...

    3rd round...Lewis and Brown
    4th round...Allen
    5th round....Gay, Burnett, Butler, Hawthorne
    7th round....Frederick

The reality here is....more than likely these guys are a crap shoot at best. Up to this point, with Ike always starting, it really only left 1 starting position open.

Do this for inside linebackers we have drafted and it is even worse.

The Steelers better do better this year,
I think jobs will be on the line for some
if they don't secure at least one impact
cb this draft.I bet KC/MT are telling their
scouts work extra hard see all the tape you
can possibly see, talk to everybody you know,we can't have any wiffs this year.

The unfortunate part of life is that we all have "whiffs" unless you count the second guessers.

Well one thing is for certain, in a year where we are most likely going to draft 2 CBs, one of them high, the Steelers better not miss.

Did Mel Blount not have any sons? :lolol:

as a matter of fact yes. I saw him play quite often and the kid was pretty good in HS. linsly , in wheeling w.va. that was a few years ago. there have been some decent pros come out of that school. it used to be a military school years ago, but they bring kids in from all over. a small school that puts out and accepts smart kids. a little pricey too. anyway he was a rb and lb.

What difference does it make who the coach was?, bottom line they have done a terrible job scouting and drafting CB's.

And, since 1936 they have only drafted 5 cornerbacks in the first round, no wonder cornerback has been a decades old soft spot....

Because I don't think you can judge Tomlin on anything Cowher did. Personally, I don't believe they have done a horrible job. We have gotten 3 guys since Tomlin has been here all of which have started at some point. Pretty incredible when you realize that Ike has been a constant starter. When you realize that 5 of the 8 have been 5th round picks or worse we are lucky we got anyone.

I am a big believer that your 1st round pick is a starter, a game changer if you are lucky. Your 2nd round to 4th round picks are expected to be contributors on some level. Even Brown would qualify on that level. Your 5th through 7th round picks are crap shoots.

Don't remember us drafting a lot of starting safety's either. Starters sometimes depend on who you have to beat out for a job.

And usually people pay the consequences
    of poor decisions.
