That's not correct. That was the reporter's opinion. Tomlin said, “We need to have depth in that area and we will in the not-too-distant future, whether it’s in free agency or the draft.” Just to clarify.

i stand corrected.. just doesnt sound like tomlin to even say that much about it ? odd.. and really torn who i hope it is... i really thought MJD was more than one year older then blount.. i still think his body has to be older then blount.. i didnt look how many caries they have each had but my guess woud be MJD has twice the carreer carries of blount and took a lot more pounding... tuff decision.. rarely do the steelers evey sign a BIG name .. now they are looking at a decent name and a huge name.. its like being a kid in a candy store with $1 to spend on a reeses cup or snickers and you cant choose haha

Nah, unless you wrote the article in question. Just looked it up- MJD has over 3 times the career carries.
Either way, unless he'll work for Primanti Bros. gift cards, they are going to have a hard time signing him without making some kind of financial move beforehand. After the Moore signing, they're probably sitting around the ball park of $850K-$900K or so. Edit- forgot to account for displacement, which should take it to around $1.26 Mil.

they could also add some money by simply cutting guys like Paulson, carter, blake, Wilson, and some other low end guys to add to our total.

But doesn't only the Top 51 count right now? So if these guys are not in the top 51 then it wouldnt effect the cap much if at all. And i doubt they'd cut any of these guys now just to bring in more bodies to replace them later.

lol, good analogy. Honestly, MJD wants to be a starter / split back roll Nd I don't see that happening here. IMO Blount has one goal, and that is run hard, run at people, run over people, move forward. He seemed to fit in with the Pats quite well. He can't catch well, so he was used more when the Pats gameplan called for smash mouth against some defenses. With that, my money is on Blount to be a Steeler. Tomlin and KC want to be in Pitt for his visit, so that tells us something.

If in fact it is true that Tomlin expects it to be done prior to the end of the week, then I would expect it to be Blount. Personally, I prefer it to be him, but not sure what the FO is thinking. I think MJD will be too much.

I thought Carter might have been...but didnt think the rest would be...go figure...then again they probably don't have a ton of players on the roster so yeah I guess they could be in the 51...haha fn eh

i guess my only question is (and hopefully some of you can tell me this).. IF blount is as good as he looks.. why at the pats not trying harder or trying at all to re-sign him? i doubt its a money issue.. they have more free money than we do .. hell everyone does.. so why is he available? and yeah i tihnk it has to be blount..MJD still is looking for 3 M (not 3.5m)... but the other question is .. if both MT and KC have to be there to sign him and they are at the owners meetings then why doesnt blount go to orlando where MT and KC are? there are flights into orlando.. really .. im about 100 miles from there in clearwater beach .. so we got planes down here? i understand physicals.. so talk to him.. sign him in orlando .. send him to pitt for the physical or.. hes a novel idea.. have MT KC and the team docs all in orlando? but something is wrong if the pats are letting him walk.. i think we have a good FO but not as good as the pats..

They're letting the market dictate his value...hoping other teams will do most of the negotiating for them. They have $4 Mil in cap space btw.

our OLB'ers current and former are holding us hostage at this point, unless we free up some other money. we can't even sign our draftpicks until we get the Woodley savings. worilds is holding over 9 mil. and may all year. we are pretty much out of options. whats worse is we think 3 mil is high for MJD and we want blount for less, we paid redman and dwyer 2.3 mil. each last year at this time.

True but this is the only process and it does really dictate value quite nicely. You have to hope that some of these FAs want out for other reasons other then money.

We will be fine. If we dont fill the RB positions through FA then we have to do it through the draft. I really think we are looking at signing one FA and drafting our 3rd RB.

Hopefully we are able to secure Blount. If not I won't jump off a bridge or anything but may smoke some Blount ..errrr I mean Blunt lol

I really want MJD. He could be really good and is different than Bell. He is way better as a running back than others left in free agency

I guess I may be about the only one not really sweating RB depth. Yes we desperately need a backup RB, but honestly, as long at Bell is healthy we're gonna ride him until the wheels fall off...... so the way I see it, injury is about the only way a backup RB is getting on the field. I don't think we need to stretch and pay more for a vet, we could probably get about the same production out of a draft pick or low value free agent.

What kind of signal do you suppose signing blount or MJD as a backup, to likely have a larger paycheck than Bell, while he's doing all the work?

We'll get a backup, even if it's one of our re-tread rejects like Felix Jones, Howlings, Dwyer, Redman, or any other flavor of the week. Bell is our man and I don't think we need a 1A starter/backup to help "save" bell for a longer future. RB's have a shelf life and we might as well use it.

it's not for his long term shelf life but end of season going into the playoffs that we need him healthy and fresher. a main backup could save about 100 carries. we will ride him but we don't want to kill him before year 2 is up. then there's the injury thingy.

Drew = little & frail, dresses up in cheerleader outfits in spare time
    Blount = big & tough

Got it. Blount sure would be cool to see back in a Steelers jersey. I'm sure he wouldn't be foolish enough to request #47.... but that'd still be sweet.
