and a few other plays would have made us 6-10 .. those few plays separate the good teams from the bad... many games are decided by 3 points or less.. especially with the steelers

its way too early to tell ... some teams got much better .. pats,,, broncos ..giants... some got worse (bengals have lost a few good players and made no pickups.. odd).. and we ... imho have gotten a bit worse.. but if/when we lose clarks leadership on and ff the field we will lose a lot... as i have always said we never win in denver since clark cant play there.. remember tebow and is 300+ playoff yards against our "clarkless" D? so if we were 8-8 last years id go 7-9 right now .. but as i said earlier .. we were 8-8 and coudl have just as easily been 10-6 or 6 and 10 last year.. like in baseball .. its a given you win 50+ games.. lose 50+ games... its what happens in those other 50+ games that determines who wins..
in football thats not true overall .. but with a team like the steelers we are given to win 5.. lose 5 in maybe non close games.. its the other 6 games that determines the season...

I still don't see this team being able to compete with Denver or New England. Manning and Brady will continue to LOL at Lebeau's scheme. I can see a fun 10-6 regular season then we will get clobbered on the road in the post season against one of those teams.

Then why watch? They need to get younger and faster on defense, they're attempting to do that. The o-line is basically the same except Pouncey being back and getting a better coach. D-line took some hits, but so what? They were not getting it done last year anyway. They've taken it to Peyton and Brady before with DL's scheme before as well.

Hell the great Peyton got destroyed in the SB! The NFL isn't about matching player for player on teams you think are SB contenders.

I'll watch no matter the outcome. But facts are facts, the steelers beat Brady in 04 reg season but that was a much better team that what we have now. Then we got stomped 41-28 in the AFCCG the same year. In 05 we took a pounding from Peyton in the regular season and went on to win a close playoff game against Indy that same year. We haven't beat manning since and with the exception of one game Brady and the pats continue to destroy us every time we play them.

New starters in 2013 WR tackle RB OLB ILB corner center. Yes I included the 2 positions where we lost the starter by the 2nd quarter week 1.

Projected new starters 2014 WR saftey DE. While we may have a new corner he may not start. Maybe a new ILB bout doubtful. 3 over 7 and of course those injuries could happen again. I just don't think the sky is fallin in Pittsburgh oor maybe I'm the optimistic fan.

Peyton's record is only 3-2 against the Steelers and 0-1 in the playoffs. Brady is a different story and bring up the AFCCG in '04 season as a lesson against DL's scheme, I believe Ben threw 3 picks (one an 90yard pick 6) that made the score 24-3 after Townsend blew a coverage on a 60 yarder.

    Good news! It already happened.

Jarvis will be better and stronger.
Bell is a beast, and should have a better OL and should contribute more in the passing game.
Wheaton has a year under his belt and will get more playing time.
Shamarko will get on the field and make us faster and stronger and more physical.
Vince Williams won't be a rookie. He was putting it together last year. For whatever downs he's out there, our defense will be better than it was last year.
We may still get solid depth from Justin Brown and Moye, and maybe even Nick Williams / Arnfelt / Embernate.

Plus whoever we get this May! I feel great.

We have lots of work to do to make the playoffs.
Lets hope we have a successful draft,
that provide players that will see the field early and often. If not?

I wonder if patient fans basically become incurable optimists in their efforts to assure the rest that it's worth the wait?

Mac is pretty spot on in his identification of the holes on the team and areas for development. But we always knew that this season and next would be transition periods. I want to see some new guys in here, and I want to see what they can do. True, we're not used to young guys stepping in quite so quickly as some of them will have to, but hasn't that been a chief complaint around here - that we let the young guys sit for too long? True, we're looking very weak at CB at the moment - but when was the last time we looked strong there?

We're not a contender. We probably won't be for years. We botched our roster, and are wasting Ben's remaining good years.

I agree. The Steelers could make the playoffs next season in a weak AFC but they are years from becoming a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Perhaps they should have blown the whole thing up two years ago and started over.

The 8-8's are behind us we will be in the hunt though in a different scenario... we make our own destiny and agree we conquer the AFC North along with other possibilities. Though each year the draft is always a concern..just hope we nail it. Don't let me down Pittsburgh

I think that there is reason for optimism but also a lot of question marks. There is going to be more growing pains for this team than last year but more opportunities for guys to make big strides and really solidify their place on the team. This will also be the time for guys like Heyward to really step up and take a huge leadership role something I think he wants as well as Ben continuing his work from last season and showing leadership not just in words but by doing the things that he showed the last half of the season.

I thought that interview and exchange between Ike and Harrison was very telling. They didn't want to be the forgotten guys on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the ones that let the legacy slide downward on their watch. They wanted to be remembered like Lambert, Swann, Bradshaw and Greene and I think that needs to be instilled in some of the newer guys.

Just realized I wasn't in the thread I thought I was. oops damn pain killers.

One common theme regardless of which side you are on, this team has quite a few holes to fill. The D is where we have fallen off, and it will be on them to regroup ASAP
