At least he didn't let his pride get in the way like Harrison did last year. This helps the team out big time now Colbert stick to your word and be active in free agency, re-sign Cotchery and a CB.

Ike forced the Sanchez fumble in the AFCCG a few years ago. He's decent off the edge, but they (smartly) kept him in coverage and sent other corners most of the time when the ran corner blitzes. In the further, he may blitz more since he's not quite the cover guy that he was a couple of years ago.

I'm happy for Ike, the dude stays in shape and stays out of trouble off the field. If we do draft a young corner it's good to know that he can learn a few things from Ike Taylor.

If we sign a CB, what do we do with Ike. Our top 3 CBs as of now are Ike, Allen, and Gay. If you bring in a veteran CB, one of those guys drops to #4 CB, and creates a logjam that eliminates any playing time for any rookie we draft. We just signed a CB.

I really doubt ike is going to be covering the other teams #1 again this year. a rookie will still have to earn field time if ike was here or not. cortez has to finally show he can take the job and stay on the field. gay is steady eddie for us. I look for them to use the shark as more of a corner again, since we have will allen back. the youth will get playing time if they show they are capable. allen hasn't been healthy for a full season since he's been here. that's where gay and ike have been iron men more than most. it's a better situation then going into the season with just gay and allen as the only two that know the defense. they will find room to get the rookie on the field if he shows he can. we run a lot more of the sub packages lately.

It's nice to see guys still taking pay cuts to stay in the Burgh. Even after two 8-8 seasons there is still loyalty there. As bad as Ike has been at times he is still a healthy guy who is on the field. I think we can link a part of his fall off in play to some of the company on the defense, lets be honest that unit hasn't been good in quiet some time.

By looking at his size, Speed, tackling ability, and his knowledge of the game.

It was "Take the deal, or bye bye. Speed? Was. A #1? Was. He has declined each year. And after last years stats, and the eye test, the end is near. Thought they would have just released him, but, Mr. Rooney and LeBeau love him. Nice to see loyalty, especially at that salary! Maybe he can come in as a role player and make an impact. He still has some left as a role player. Possibly this will be the last year for Coach LeBeau as well...

Assuming we can get one more solid year out of him then his presence will alleviate a lot of the growing pains in the secondary. However, I'm not particularly thrilled with him being retained. It won't surprise me at all if this team struggles again in 2014. With that being said I would rather them stop signing aging veterans and just get the rebuild over and done with.

:applaud: Good news. Ike gets WAY too much slack. In a "what have you done for me lately" world people tend to forget his accomplishments, and some talk like he's been junk ever since he walked through the door. The guy has covered the best WR's in the league for many years and now that age and wear & tear have caught up people like to bash on him.

While I don't see him playing the #1 CB anymore he's still beneficial to the defense and to the locker room imo. I'd much rather take an aging Ike that was willing to take a pay cut for the team and wants to be a Steeler for life than someone younger who is all about the bling. Just my opinion of course :)

Good post, but I don't think you know what "slack" means.

We needed Ike for veteran leadership and depth. That's a pretty friendly contract. I tip by hat to Ike being so loyal to the Rooneys and the Steelers.

While I agree its good for Leadership/locker-room and depth there isn't much need to be patting Ike on the back for loyal.

Ike allowed 1043 yds, gave up 6 TDs and allowed a passer rating of 110.6 He's 33 and in his 11th yr. He's going down hill and it seems fast. He's lucky the Steelers thought enough of him to give him 2.5 million dollars for another year.

For those thinking he can move to safety I disagree. He asked to make that move to extend is career but he just isn't safety material in my eyes. He isn't a good enough tackler/hitter.

This will be Ike's final year and I'm happy for him.

Given how often he got beat last year I wonder if he'll switch his SNF Player introduction to "Laggin" instead of "Swaggin".

Ike is still servicable, provided he isn't lined up on the number 1 reciever. I think he's probably in the top half of # 2 corners in the league.
