The first piece has fallen. They've restructured Heath.

Not sure if your serious or not but I really do not see us bringing him back. I would be beyond shocked if they did.

If they are going to resign they better do it quickly. Plax is a hot commodity lol

They are NOT going to bring him back. I will eat my hat and shirt if he comes back to the Burgh.

Idk... I don't see what he could do for us that either Moye or J. Brown couldn't do as well or better. You very well might be right that he comes back in 2014, I just think it would be a poor move by the FO.

At this point I would rather find a young WR in the mold of Plax , not sure how much he has left in him.

AGREED. Last year was his only real chance to help this team. He is now one year older and recovering from a rotator cuff injury. Plax best days are behind him

He is 37 . We need to move on as does he.

I'm not saying we should bring him back, just saying I think we will.

I am just going to throw this out there about the whole Plax thing and being 37. Why is it that Plax's best days are behind him at 37 and yet Ben who has taken more physical abuse in the last eight years than Plax is still got eight years left of playing at a high level? Lets face it it has nothing to do with his actual ability and more of what fans perceive it to be based on age. Same with Heath Miller just because he is over 30 many were ready to label him as going downhill yet Ben is in his prime, I don't get it.

let's face it at those ages it could go down hill quickly. i think they are smart in not touching bens contract right now with two years left. he's not going anywhere even after these next two years. plax has just played so little football the last several years, the game speed can pass you up quickly sitting out. that's my concern with him.

Ben is 32 and still playing at a high level. Plax is 37 and barely played any football in the last 5 years. We also have other people who can give us more then Plax can, who is on the team that can play better then Ben at his position?

When Ben is 37, I doubt many will say he is in his prime.

I disagree a lot with this. Ben has 8 years left? Who thinks that? Ben is currently playing at his highest level. What has Plax done currently to make you think that? Plax is an expensive, old receiver who's coming off another injury. There are many wide receivers who can fill a role cheaply.

If Plax is back here, or signed anywhere, it's likely going to be months from now when teams need an insurance policy.

Guys let me clear up a couple of things. I have no vested interest in whether they sign Places or not. To me it doesn't hurt to keep him around because he is a proven commodity. Not saying throw a bunch of money his way but see what he wants. Ben has chemistry with him and he makes plays beyond just the endzone fade which was my problem with Moye last year, they never established him as a threat beyond that fade route.

Now the reason why I mentioned Ben at all is to show how age and football wear and tear are left by the wayside when it comes to fan favorites but is the catch all when they don't care for a guy. I don't think Ben has 8 years left in him at a high level my opinion is closer to two years but if you poke your head into the numerous should we extend him threads there is a widely held belief that he will play past 40 and do so at or near the level of the last few years. Yet you look at the Heath extension thread his age was thrown out as a reason not to resign then injury and decline in production. Here you have Play and the age thing again top reason. I dont get it.

Because he is already 37. I don't know why this is difficult. If he were 32, people would have a different take on it.

And I think you are greatly exaggerating, most people have been saying Ben has 5 years left, I can't recall anyone saying that he will be playing past 40 and at a high level no less. Certainly not a lot of people saying that anyway. Can he play till he's 40? Possible, obviously, but I think most likely he will hang it up by 38 though.

He is 37 and yes with age comes a drop off but you also have to take into account the time off away from football so the difference between the wear and tear of a 37 yr old playing football for 15 plus years is different than one who hasn't played a meaningful game in almost five. Im not saying he isn't rusty or that he is the second coming of Calvin Johnson but he is however a solid veteran receiver on a team that lacks that experience at the position. I think last season showed especially on defense that younger doesn't mean better some times it is just younger.

Am I exaggerating peoples expectations of Ben? Somewhat you and I know realistically Ben has x amount of years left but we will see fan boys who have him playing till he is forty and winning five SB's. The fact still remains he is over 30 and has taken lots of punishment yet the age factor is thrown out the window for him and yet entered as evidence for Miller and Plax as well as others heck somebody was mentioning McClendon and Woods as nearing 30 or over.
