CBSsports had a report saying he will command 6-7 million a year as a free agent. I find it funny that before the media and fans were bashing Tomlin for drafting Worilds over Sean Lee, now they say the Steelers need to re-sign him.

we will see. if we lose him we lose him. he took a long time and finally showed up in a contract year. alot of teams missed on him in the draft and we took him. he should have played better a year or two ago when woodley was missing time. he should have been able to play both sides. he's not worth that kind of money even to us and we will move on without him if needed. woodley is still under contract.

At this point, I am not stressed about it. I'm not sure he is worth 7 million a year. He might be, but I honestly have my concerns. It isn't like Worilds has been doing this for more than 1 season. Yeah, he might actually be able to sustain this, or....he could flop. To me, the reality is we have either him or Woodley next year, so I'm not going to panic if he walks.

Money aside, I always thought Worilds did a good job. If you add up all the spot duty games he had, I recall his sack total being pretty good. I have no problem with them paying a little extra for him, they thought theyd be fine without Lewis this year, that pretty much bit them in the ass, he was as unproven as Worilds, can't keep letting talent leave and think everything will be hunky dory.

that's what makes ms nervous.. Spot duty guys may have fresher legs and get around the corner better than a full-year starter. Will he maintain that high level with a fatter wallet and 19(aim high, boys and girls) games to play? I'm glad I don't have to make that gamble!

I wish we could keep him. That will be two young upcoming players we will let walk out the door. Worilds does have some questions since he only did it one year but I would take that chance on him for the mere fact that he is still young.

Probably the same people who were saying Cam Heyward was a bust and the one saying Jarvis Jones is going to be a bust.

I've had a nagging feeling that Worilds is as good as gone. He'll command a king's ransom (somebody will pay it)on the open market AND he also thinks that he didn't get a fair shake in Pittsburgh and has said as much in interviews. I'm starting to be a little bugged by this whole thing. Bugged because Worilds has missed significant time due to injury and now he's the second coming of LT going into free agency AND bugged because it takes us until their contract years to develop our good, young defensive players. My prediction at this point is that Worilds will go elsewhere and have 15 sacks next season.

I'm nowhere close to ready to say that but I will say this. Jarvis Jones was a HUGE disappointment his rookie season and he'll have as much pressure to perform his second season than any player I can remember in a long time.

This. Cam received little playing time his first 2 yrs so hard to gauge. JJ got a boat load of time and only 1 sack? Come on man....here's wishing for a miracle in 2014.

I have a hard time seeing someone looking at Worilds' limited resume and injury history and shelling out big guaranteed dollars. I am going to guess that his expectations for a big payday will not be realized, and his best option may be to play another year in our system at a salary of maybe 3-4 mil so that he can prove that he's not just a 1/2 year wonder. I think the pedestrian season that Kruger had for the Browns this year after being in a similar situation to Worilds last year is not helpful to his cause.

Tomlin deserved being bashed for picking Worilds over Lee. Lee has been and will continue to be a much better linebacker than Worilds.

Lee got a 40 million contract from the Cowboys and is injury prone, he's a good player but can't stay healthy so it's no big thing the Steelers passed on him.

And Worilds isn't injury prone and is not going to get a big contract? The problem with the pick is that Sean Lee has contributed twice the value to his team over the same period as Worilds. That makes it a bad pick for the Steelers.

Worilds isn't injury prone. Hasn't missed a game since 2011.

I never thought Cam was a bust and I often wondered why he didn't get more playing time. You can't tell me that the coaches saw more talent in Ziggy Hood than they did Cam. The fact it took Cam so much time to crack the starting lineup almost lends credence to Worilds' assertion that he was held back by the coaching staff. Even though it appears otherwise, I still think it's time for DL to retire with honor and allow another DC to install a less complex, more playmaker friendly defense that will allow a player's potential to come to fruition well ahead of the final year of his rookie contract!

Really? Then why has he only had one season out of 4 that he played 16 games? Didn't he miss the last game of 2013 with an injury?

Yes. One game. Before that was week 8 of 2011 which was the last of a 4 game stretch due to a quadriceps injury. Thats 2 and a half seasons (40 games) of not missing time. If you want to call that 'injury prone' then go ahead, but just about everyone else would probably disagree with you.

Didn't he start out in 2012 limited due to a wrist injury?

Edit: seems like I remember him being unable to go early in 2012 for an injured Harrison and Carter had to start? I might be losing my mind though?

Losing JW would be a big loss for this team. Couldn't buy this guy any love until now.

Those that think teams are not eyeballing JW are delusional. He hits the market and I think you're looking @ top 10 FA money and interest.

We lose him, so be it, but don't delude yourself into thinking that it's not a hit.

Management can only do so much and keep so many within the laws of this NFL and so that's the way it goes but it still sucks.

We as in the team causes this all the time. Lot of teams play rookies and when they get to year 3 they sign them to a 5 year deal Jason sat on the bench most time for 2 years, then he has a good year and a half and we can't touch him. It is the coaches fault I say

5yrs 30million to 5 years 35million isn't a bargain, but it's a number the team could make work if they want.
