I believe troy will be back for at least 2 seasons. that being said, does Thomas replace clark this year? I think he is a ss but in order to get him on the field will they play him at fs a couple of years? if that's the case safety may not be as big of need as I have thought. we still need to get one I know but I have been wanting Clinton dix. I think he could come in and start right away but would they start him over a guy who has a year under his belt. I want the backend of the defense fixed and fixed now.

For what its worth here's my two cents.

Shark- He didn't play that many snaps last year replacing either Clark or Troy- the vast majority of his snaps were either as a corner or a 3rd safety. It was wil allen who did the replacing. Golden is no more than a ST at this point. I see shark replacing Golden and getting more snaps spelling troy @ SS. Wil Allen or a FA FS will come in and replace Clark. They'll groom Shark to replace Troy but will use his versatility whenever & wherever they need it. They will draft a safety this year but don't look for our next starter to come from it.

    This years safeties---

Clinton Dix may at this point be the top safety in this draft but he is no Earl Thomas, Ed Reed or Troy. If he was in last years draft he would have been the 3rd or 4th safety taken. Pryor is right behind him and there isn't another safety ( maybe except Ed Reynolds ) worth a 1st or 2nd rd pick. No way do I look for troys replacement this year or draft a safety before rd 3.

    Cajun-

shamarko can play either as can most safeties. he's got a lot of coverage ability and the speed to get across the field quickly.

there are also some guys in this draft that are listed as corners that may be better safeties in the NFL. victor Hampton of south Carolina could be one of those guys. marqueston huff can play either corner or safety.

I like c-dix, but I don't think he's really special. last year had a ton of safeties and we got a good one.

I like what they have been trying to do as far as guys that can play different spots and are not pigeon holed into one set position which makes it really hard on a qb's reads. Thomas is more than just a strong safety. those high ankle sprains linger for a long time though and that hurt his field time last year. he should be right in the mix this year.

troy is my worry. his coverage and range is not what it once was, so someone else will have to take up that slack.

Honestly Steel, I'd be pretty shocked if Troy plays past 2014 with the Steelers. Shark is listed on the the depth chart as a SS, and I feel like he is viewed as the player that will make Troy expendable. If we go out and sign a young free agent FS (like Delmas, or someone like him), I really think that we will draft a FS, have the FA start, and go into 2014 with Troy the starter and Shark his back up. Shark will be the starting SS in 2015.
