The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac believes the Steelers will let Emmanuel Sanders leave in free agency.

Sanders had a solid 67-740-6 season in 2013, but Dulac says the Steelers believe second-year WR Markus Wheaton can replace and perhaps even outplay him in 2014. Dulac also said Pittsburgh has told Ben Roethlisberger they plan on taking a tall wide receiver early in May's NFL Draft. Mike Evans fits the bill and could be available when the Steelers pick at 15. No surprise here. Another receiver gone after 4 years. Quick another 2nd day pick to replace him! Need weapons! Just a couple more and the Steelers will have a top 10 offense for the first time since 2002!!!

I'm not upset about this. Even if they are dropping the ball on this one they will have to drop it a lot more to match his totals, if you know what I mean. I just don't think him and Ben have the chemistry that Ben and AB or Ben and Heath have and if we have Wheaton and Cotch for the slot then that makes Sanders the odd man out.

I agree...this is no great loss if he leaves. I wouldn't mind him staying but wont shed tears if he and the Steelers part ways.

I'd rather we tried to get a top 5 defense again

well if true, I'm sure the steelers appreciate them telling every other team this is who they are going to pick. I'm also sure they went to dulac and told him this is who we are going after. I don't buy it.

what does the SEC have to do with it? wouldn't all the good DB's be there too? where are they at the top of the boards? why are so many big 12 and ACC receivers and TE's at the top over all these can't miss SEC guys? that has very little to do with it. any kid playing major college football is a great athlete. making the transition to the pros is a whole different animal. SEC or not it doesn't make them instant pros or even better pros.

:this!: Coming from the SEC certainly does not guarantee anything. And at this point Dulac is simply speculating, nothing more. While the Evans pick is intriguing i'm not sure i want to spend my 1st pick on a WR tbh.

    exactly
why does the ACC own the record of 1st rd picks in one year at 14 .Almost half the NFL took an ACC player.
I wish someone would tell Rappaport some big fishtale too.
    Here boy,run with it.

The Steelers are in a great position in the draft, seems the possibilities are abundant to move around or get a Starter.Fingers crossed. Why the heck did they move it? WAAAHH WAAAH

Before this past season, I wasn't happy about hearing that Sanders was looking elsewhere.

Hearing it this time, though....my reaction is more like, "oh well."

there is no way Evans is still available when they pick at 15. he will go top 10. hes a legit game changer. he can step right in as a rookie and make an impact.

it would be great to see him lined up opposite of AB, but i dont see it happening unless they try and trade up.

I agree. I feel like a top defense is more attainable and more effective.

I don't want evans or a first round wr for that matter. this draft is to deep at that position and there are a lot of busts on wr in the first round. get a good one in rounds 3 or 4 with no problem. as for sanders good luck. whoever gets him will overpay

It's cool to hear the SEC/ACC argument. Around here it's just basically all SEC and if you try and say the ACC or PAC 12 or any other conference has better talent you are marked as a Judas and might get beat with soap in socks. LOL.

It's pretty early to say who will or won't be available. This time last year, Jarvis Jones was a consensus top 5 pick. The year before, DeCastro was a top 10-15 no brainer on every analyst's draft board right up until draft day. You never know.

The down side to this is if he had gone to NE last year, we would have gotten a 3rd round choice. We in essence traded a 3rd round pick for one year of his service. I don't think that was a good investment. Or do we still get a third if he goes somewhere this year?

No way they can pay him what he wants and do the other deals anyway. He's just not worth premium #2 money.

oh I agree with you. I am just saying that everyone seems to think that you have to get playmakers in round 1. we have had a pretty good history with mid to late round wr

I think too many people here are getting tunnel vision. It happens on both sides. We need playmakers, we need a top 5 D again. The reality is, in order to be a Super Bowl contender we need a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense. It is much easier to look at our offense and go....yep, if we get a major playmaker or 2 we are going to step there right away. The defense on the other hand has so much more transition to take place yet. With Keisel leaving, our Dline is now very young. We had 2 rookies starting on our LB group. Our DB situation is much more dire. We had 3 starters over 32 years of age last year. Ike, Troy, and Clark are all going to be transitioning out.

With the success of Bell, a 2nd rounder, I think we will look to add a WR in the first 2 rounds, but the rest of the draft is going to be very heavily focused on D. I honestly think TE is a position which is going to wait, and RB is going to be something we deal with in free agency. I also wouldn't be surprised to see S dealt with in free agency.

Is Ben still going on about getting a tall receiver?

Can the man just not learn to throw a little lower?
