I think the headline is a little misleading. Worilds does seem open to remaining with the Steelers, but he doesn't exactly give that idea a ringing endorsement. He seems very non-committal to me. And once again he mentions that he doesn't feel that he was given an opportunity to play early in his career and it seems to be a source of frustration to him.

"It's been rough just to get on the field, especially when you probably could have helped the team in years past, but you just weren't given an opportunity,"
    --Jason Worilds

Many of us are frustrated that LeBeau's system seems to hold players back and Worilds seems to be confirming that with some of his statements. I just hope we can re-sign this guy before March 11th!

What are the repercussions of cutting 56 and keeping 93?

Perhaps trading 56 and eating part of contract?

Please stay. Wouldn't be the same without you. ;)

There have been other Worilds (or Worildly) posts, but this article is hot off the presses.

I'll defer to some of the cap experts on the board to discuss the financial repercussions, but the repercussions of allowing a superstar in the making to get away for two off-seasons in a row would be HUGE!

I've seen that quote before, Jack. Seems like this writer stuck an old quote into a new article. Nothing else in here seems alarming, seems like every other FA that doesn't want to over play his hand, most don't do what Ben did.

Also Worilds had two better players ahead of him in Woodley and Harrison so he wasn't going to start. And that wrist injury he had early in his career held him back.

This is what I've feared. Playing JJ over worilds early in the season not only hurt this team, possibly kept us out of the playoffs.

He waited his time, played well when called upon and when Harrison moved on it was his turn. They played JJ over him and in the end he showed what they should have already known, JJ ain't ready and he was.

He has every right to feel frustrated and disrespected.`

    I hope we're able to re-sign him.

I think this is a new quote, Blast. He's reiterating what he said before so it's obviously on his mind.

But I think it may go deeper than that. We all agree that Worilds was not going to usurp Harrison and Woodley as starters, but he seems to genuinely feel that he was held back somewhat and wasn't really given a fair opportunity to earn more playing time. He's mentioned it in multiple interviews now and one criticism of DL has been that it's a three year learning curve which is about two years too long in today's NFL. Our young defensive players seem to finally "get it" when it's time to sign their second contract which leaves the team scrambling to re-sign them and puts them at risk of leaving i.e. Keenan Lewis last season. Our young defensive guys have to start contributing sooner and if DL sticks around he needs to figure out a way to get them up to speed sooner. We can't keep them on the shelf until they start flashing in the last year of their contract.

Guy said to me right after draft..."How happy are you to have JJ?" My answer was.."He will not beat out Worlds.JJs just hanging out till 56 is cut."

I know I have seen that quote verbatim before. I don't trust journalists, Jack, always trying to stir **** up. Found this article when I just did a quick search, not what I was looking for but it's March of last year, sounds like he is pretty excited and appreciative of what it means to play LB for the Steelers, says this is the place to be.

Also, Butler is dismissive of him saying he feels he should be playing, he said they all feel that way, he wouldn't want a player who doesn't believe they should be on the field.

i agree freak. worilds needs to quit whinning and play better. he's had alot of opportunity to play and was either hurt or failed miserably when he did from the right side. that's not JJ's fault or anybody elses, but worilds.

there isn't a coach alive that would just let a guy sit that's outplaying the guy in front of him all the time. worilds just wasn't outplaying anyone. once he had some good games woodley got benched. he had his shot at the right side and didn't take advantage of it.

i wouldn't break the bank for him. he's a one position guy like woodley and i think we can replace either of them if we draft smart and take the time to allow them to get better as they go.

That's where this "Position flexibility" thing gets me. They use the safetys and DB's like that, but when it gets to the LBs (all of them), they are one position guys!

Heres a little insight on Defense this off season: PITTSBURGH -- Four of the five Pittsburgh Steelers who logged over 1,000 snaps this season were defensive players, with strong safety Troy Polamalu (1,041) leading the team in playing time. Polamalu Joining the 11th-year veteran in playing over 1,000 snaps in 2013 were inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons (1,034), free safety Ryan Clark (1,026) and cornerback Ike Taylor (1,010). Here is a look at snap counts, courtesy of ESPN Stats & Information, on the defensive side of the ball: -- The sheer number of snaps played by three of the four starters in the secondary shows why the Steelers have to target defensive backs in this year’s draft. Clark probably won’t be re-signed and Taylor and possibly even Polamalu may have to accept pay cuts to return in 2014. It’s hard to imagine Polamalu not coming back and the Steelers needing to replace both starting safeties next season given the lack of proven depth behind them. Rookie Shamarko Thomas played significant snaps as the third safety in the quarter defense until a high-ankle sprain sidelined the fourth-round draft pick. Thomas did not play a snap in the final seven games of the season, seeing action only on special teams. Will Allen supplanted Thomas and played so well that I think the Steelers re-sign the 10th-year veteran and let him compete to replace Clark or play in some sort of rotation. -- Outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley played just over half of the Steelers’ defensive snaps (555) and a nagging calf injury caused him to miss five games and limited him in several others. Woodley has had trouble staying on the field since signing a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2011, and that is why something has to give with the seventh-year veteran. Woodley likely has to take a pay cut to return to the Steelers or the team could release him. Jason Worilds logged the most snaps (748) among outside linebackers, and he should be at the top of the list of their own free agents that the Steelers want to re-sign. Worilds, who can become an unrestricted free agent on March 11, is No. 22 Insider on ESPN NFL Insider Mike Sando’s list of “must-sign” free agents. Outside linebacker Jarvis Jones played 612 snaps, second only to running back Le’Veon Bell (656) among Steelers’ rookies. -- Nose tackle Steve McLendon played just 338 snaps, a number than can be attributed to a high-ankle sprain that caused him to miss two games as well the evolution of the NFL into a passing league. The Steelers frequently used their nickel and dime packages this season, but I’m not among those who think the shift in NFL offenses de-values the position of nose tackle. The Steelers’ defense is still predicated on stopping the run, and Pittsburgh gave up roughly 25 more rushing yards per game this season than it did in 2012. One of the most important offseason player personnel discussions will be whether the Steelers think McLendon can be their nose tackle of the future or whether they have to try and find one in the draft. What is interesting to note: Hebron Fangupo, whom the Steelers kept over 2012 fourth-round pick Alameda Ta’amu played just 13 snaps this season. Ta’amu, who signed with Arizona after getting released by the Steelers at the end of August, played 224 snaps at defensive tackle for a team that led the NFL in rushing defense.

Worilds should've started the season over Jarvis Jones maybe he's pissed about that.
