It seems like they have been signing dozens of these type of players in recent years. I really just started noticing this maybe 4 or 5 years ago. But have any of them ever really contributed?

A few of those about 19 UDFA's signed right after the draft make the team or PS. Then throughout the offseason prior to the draft they keep signing these players. But nothing seems to come of them.

Not sure but are Garvin and/or Baxter for instance examples of these type players? Maybe this year some come through.

It's weird that kid from UT had such numbers like that but I've never heard people talking about him around here. It's actually been probably since Jamal Lewis that people around here have been big on a rb though. Bryce Brown has done pretty good when he's been given a chance but he fumbles like crazy. Hopefully this kid is not the same.

All of these type signings are mostly fodder for camp. If you get lucky with one every once in a while, good, but don't have any expectations.

Well I saw one guy somewhere saying he thinks that rb might actually be able to make the roster. I'm with you though. If I ever see these guys on a roster I will be really surprised. Still it's neat to keep up with what they are doing though.

I agree for the most part. You basically want to have the best competition in camp, and have the best depth on the roster for free agency/draft contingency.

I will say that there are a handful of guys who have been signed to futures contracts who are more than camp fodder, though. Alexander, Justin Brown, Hubbard, Ventrone, Kion Wilson, and Maysonet all come to mind.

But out of those haven't only Wilson seen the field? I do think Justin Brown could be really good though. Weren't you actually in favor of him over Moye?

poole is a decent back. catches the ball good but he also has problems holding on to the ball. his senior year was better but I would be shocked if he makes the team. he would have had to improve a lot. nobody will talk about brown around here cause he was here when kiffin was.lol to much drama around him when he was here anyway

Outside of preseason I think so, though Ventrone saw the field a bunch with New England. Up until preseason I was higher on Brown.

Where do you stand now with Brown? I'd say it's really hard to have had a true evaluation of Moye because he didn't see the field that much. Brown seems pretty dang speedy to me though.

Yeah and now that he's with bama it's ALL gonna start up again! LOL! Didn't Kiffin bring in Poole too though? Or was that a Dooley thing? I know a lot of people that wanna see Brown fail just based on the fact that he didn't do good here in their eyes. I heard one guy say that he actually wanted to see him get a career ending injury!

will Johnson went undrafted and sat out of football his first year.

I do like some of these guys we have picked up. poole is one of them. moll I liked and even had in one of my mocks that year. alexander I think could turn out pretty decent. so much depends on where they were and the system they were in too. we may be a better fit for some of them. time will tell. I hate that we lost long at the end of the season. I thought he had some potential.

the brown thing was a disaster. he was cocky and a major diva. he thought he was better than anyone on the team. I think poole was a kiffin recruit. don't remember exactly. yeah I have buddies who have already made plans for when bama comes next year. these idiots think he done something to them personally.lol

Yeah that's the way people have acted to me as well. He really broke a lot of hearts around here but what's funny was when they got him I was telling people he was a joke. But no one would heart. Then after he leaves so many people were acting like they knew it all along! LOL! You know how this bunch is around here. That's why me and you were pounding the anti-Bray drum when we thought he might get drafted. He was a Kiffin guy too.

I am starting to get the idea here now. Yeah, they have to go to camp with I think 90 players. Where they going to get them all. This helps.

I was curious as to how much they were paid. And while checking that out found out some other things. First though these players were listed as signed.

RB Alvester Alexander, WR Justin Brown, OG Bryant Browning, WR Danny Coale, WR Jasper Collins, DB Jordan Dangerfield, LS Bryce Davis, OG Chris Hubbard, DT Al Lapuaho, RB Miguel Maysonet, LB Daniel Molls, WR Kashif Moore, RB Tauren Poole, WR Lanear Sampson, DB Devin Smith, LB Vic So'oto, DB Ross Ventrone, LB Kion Wilson, P Brad Wing However not all those players are on the up to date roster. Missing are DT Al Lapuaho RB Miguel Maysonet DB Devin Smith and WR Lanear Sampson

I could only find this about how they are paid and it was from another year but I think it applies to now too.

NFL teams are now signing dozens of players to "reserve/future" contracts to round out their 2012 rosters. These deals -- the vast majority of them without signing bonuses and for minimum salaries -- do not technically activate until the 2012 League Year, set to begin on March 13. Thus, the players will be in a reserve category until that time.

My comment: I can understand how any of these fringe players would want to sign here. Plenty of jobs open. I saw yesterday TS [the Steelers] have 21 UFA's come March. I like what TS are doing. Only complaint is it is a bit late. I did not buy that phony 12-4 year. Yeah, a sort of complete overhaul here is necessary. I might add last year was a pretty good start after all.

I keep waiting for them to open up try-outs to the public. I'm sure they need an out of shape 40 something on their roster...they just don't know it yet! I can curl a beer like nobody's business! It worked for Marky Mark!
