Okay, TTF, get your crack research staff to work on this one. Tomlin, LeBeau, Haley and now Munchak. That's 4 current and former NFL head coaches on the same coaching staff. Is this a first and, if not, how long has it been since this has occurred? If this isn't the most current/former head coaches on one team which coaching staff holds the record and how many did they have?

I'd do the research myself, TTF, but my staff is smaller and resources more limited than yours. ;)

Yikes, JA. I think that's too tall a task, even for the vast research and analysis department here. I can't say definitively, but I believe it's a first.

Baltimore had Cam Cameron, Jim Caldwell, and John Harbaugh. That's 3 head coaches on one team. That's one that I can think of.

The Bears had 4 back around 2010-2011. With Lovie, Mike Martz, Mike Tice and Rod Marinelli all on staff.

He was the Dolphins coach a few years back, before Sparano.

Yeah and I remember the only game he won. It was against the rats and I was laughing hysterically.

Wow, no recollection of that. But Miami is probably the only one who would have ever hired him as a HC, so I don't think he really qualifies :hmm:

You can have a whole staff of head coaches, but if the Defense doesn't get better the result will be the same...

    Tomlin isn't a former HC.

Well going from 2 current and former HC's to 3 has yielded back-to-back 8-8 seasons, so what does going to 4 HC's do? 6-10?

I think it improves the offensive line immediately given Munchak's track record. Do you not view this as good news?

Sorry, I don't. I was hoping for much bigger coaching changes. I think Munchak will improve the O-line, I am not arguing that. I just think there is no excuse for MT, DL and TH with all of their coaching experience to coach 2 seasons at 8-8. Why aren't they being held accountable? Shouldn't at least one of them have been shown the door?

I understand what you're saying, but did you really expect any of then to be fired? You had to know Tomlin would not be a and Haley had the offense playing pretty effectively the second half of the season. LeBeau's never going to be fired because, as Tomlin said, he's Dick LeBeau. I do think LeBeau needs to seriously consider retirement though. Butler deserves an opportunity to see what he can do with this defense. My fear is that LeBeau will pull a Paterno/Bowden and start to look at this as a lifetime appointment and wear out his welcome. I think you'd agree that it doesn't need to come to that.

Again, I do understand your sentiment about the coaches being held accountable. Tomlin does deserve credit for holding the team together and finishing strong. He also deserves blame for the crappy preseason and 0-4 and 2-6 start to the season. 8-8 seasons are not acceptable in Pittsburgh, and we can't continue to waste away in Mediocreville. Especially with the prime years of one of the best QBs of the era passing by.
