I don't like it really, and honestly, I think it's hypocritical of the NFL. So, their main job is to consider player safety, but they want to replace a 'gimme, non-exciting' play with a goal line, physical contact play? I'd like to see the league's data that suggests that wouldn't lead to an potential increase in injuries.

Exactly what everyone in the office said. Also, all at one time when one of us read it out loud.

Sometimes it makes you wonder if these guys are truly in touch with their customer base.

I saw this yesterday and my desire to punch goodell in the face actually grew.

I say keep it but move it back a little for 1 pt
    further back for 2 pt
and even further back for 3

then we could draft a kicker in a higher rd

And if you make it from your own 2 yard line, you get 98 points.

I thought of that too, but I've gotta admit that player safety aside, it would definitely make the game more interesting/exciting.

This was pretty much the same response on Facebook. But this isn't Goodell. It's the competition committee kickng things around. He's just the messenger.

Ok ive got the answer .. keep TDs as 6 points, and extra points as 1 point, just like it is now. The only difference though Who ever scores the TD -- RB, WR, tight end defensive back or lineman, or qb -- THEY are the ones that have to kick the extra point.
What do you think? That'd make things a lil more interesting, right?

On a PAT, make the kicker kick it with his other foot. A right footed kicker would have to kick it with his left foot and a left footed kicker with his right foot.

Get rid of the placeholders for extra points. Centre snaps the ball back, and the kicker just has to volley the ball in before it touches the ground.

Now that would be fun to watch :lolol:

I did hear about this on ESPN radio or somewhere a few days ago. I'm not a fan of the idea of getting rid of the PAT.

I don't know if it's possible for my desire to punch him can grow any more....but I do know one thing he should worry more about the absolutely horrendous officiating that is taking place in this league. Something drastic needs to be done and soon. They refs along with the rules, which are all over the place need to be overhauled. They are single handedly changing the outcome of games.

I caught a few minutes of NFL Radio today and they were talking about this.

The one proposal that both Bob Papa and LaDanian Tomlinson liked was the one that Goodell talked about in the video. And that one would be that a TD is worth 7 automatically with no extra point, but you could go for an extra point (8) by running a play from the two and if it failed you lost a point and went back to six. The thought is that most teams would simply take the 7 and a lot of extra point kicks would be eliminated, unless of course the situation warranted going for two. Not sure how I feel about taking away a point, but it would be infrequent and could have some really interesting ramifications on strategy and time management at the end of games.

Again, Goodell is simply reporting what the competition committee is considering. He's not orchestrating the whole deal, he's simply reporting what they are discussing. Where the idea came from originally no one knows. Perhaps it was Goodell, but it could have just as easily been from someone on the committee. Its not like Goodell dreams these things up on his own and then tries to ram it down everyones throats.

I think the NFL is like a lot of other corporations, they think they know what the customer wants without actually asking them.

How do you know? But yes, I try to remember that these things have to pass a vote to be put in place. I try to remember that because like Blount, I want to drive to his office and punch him in the face.

The game is fine, stop effing with it.

I read today that another option could be to have the kicker drop kick the extra point.
