I've always hoped that Troy would retire a Steeler!

Troy needs to retire as a Steeler, don't be a idiot like James Harrison and be stubborn and get released.

I don't even want to think about seeing Troy in a different uniform. It just wouldn't be right.

I think Troy will be back because he has said he plans to honor his contract..although it will need to be restructured. I also think he wants to retire a Steeler! Fingers crossed!!! :praying:

I don't understand the point of extending Troy after we drafted his replacement. We have the slowest starting secondary in the NFL. We need to get younger and faster, not older and slower. However if we insist on extending Troy, his extension should reflect his age (33 next season), and the predictable trajectory of his career going forward. If we extend him based on sentimentality and past performance, his contract will become another one that chokes our cap for years.

We need to save our pennies so we can re-sign Ben, Heyward, Worilds, and Allen ... not to keep older, expensive, declining players around.

Troy played well enough, especially when he was playing as a safety not MLB, showing that he was healthy, to give me confidence that he has more than one year left in the tank. Kiesel on the other hand, I'm not so sure he has one more year in the tank. There is a difference when evaluating these two. If we could take Troy's salary and simply spread it over 2 or 3 years (with a very small cap hit the 3rd year), then that could help the team this year.

Or don't do like Steelers did and run a guy off too early (Hines Ward)

i loved Hines as much as an Steeler fan, but he was done.

Hines layed the foundation for the 3 young wrs they had when he was their with Sanders, Ab and Wallace. i think AB took full advantage of Hines presence and he has turned into one of the top wrs in the league. say what you want about Sanders, but he is also pretty good and he would start on most teams in the NFL and Wallace certainly has his limitations, but he did make some pretty big plays and in the end the Steelers FO made the right choice in keeping AB over Wallace.

im hoping Troy takes a pay cut and ends his career as a Steeler. i would also like to see Clark and Keisel end their careers as Steelers also, but i think they both move on and play atleast 2 more years with someone else. they both still have something left in the tank.

:this!: Hines was getting lit up at the end, didn't like seeing that, it was time.

The one that stood out the most was he was coming across the middle and Suggs laid him out (no penalty of course), happened several times where players were doing to Hines like he used to do to others. On two such hits, resulted in him missing games.

I know of the couple big hits, but wasn't aware it was becoming a problem for him.

I would like to think that we're out there trying to win games, not carrying shot players in hopes of getting them records or helping them achieve milestones.

In 2011 Ward caught 46 passes for 381 yards (~ 3 receptions & 25 yards per game) a ridiculous 8.3 yards per reception and 2 TDs despite playing in 15 games and starting 9. Playing Ward kept Antonio Brown, Sanders, and Cotchery off the field ... which means that Ben had to QB a good portion of that season with one hand tied behind his back, which led to our worst scoring totals under Bruce Arians, which was at least partly responsible for his "retirement".

Had we not kept Ward on the field all season to get him his 1000 receptions, we may have won the division or even secured the #1 overall seed in the AFC, which would have spared us Dick LeBeau's debacle vs Tim Tebow ... and god only knows how far the team might have gone.

Keeping declining players around has consequences.

I admit hines was done and it was the right move. evidence proven by the fact nobody else wanted him. he may not have caught a lot of balls that last year but still contributed in the running game by blocking as good as he ever did. troy is a different story. he played all year and had a good year. as bad as this defense was at times this year we have all seen how bad they can be with him not on the field. milk at least 2 more years out of him

I think we also saw how troy has taken a step back and we saw how bad the defense was without troy's safety net of clark on the field. that changes how effective troy is in this defense.
