the more I think about what we need for the team next season, I keep coming back to, are we looking at the draft wrong?

let's review. the league has tied down defenders so much with, not being able to touch a qb, a receiver, change how they tackle and which players can be tackled where on their body's, fines, who can be blocked on turnovers and just crippled defensive players for points on the scoreboard.

is going for defensive players early becoming more of a waste? should we just fill up on offensive players and try to outscore everyone?

the ball is coming out so fast from qb's now, that rush outside LB'ers and DE's and the whole pass rush is now becoming a waste of teams cap space? teams spend a load of money on these type players but they are neutralized by a quick throw before they can do much damage and they are getting the big paydays.

are hurries becoming the new sack?

should we draft tall guys to bat these down instead of fast guys off the edge?

the way the rules have changed so much to benefit the offense ,obviously that's what the league wants Higher scoring.
the only way I can see how to help the defenses is to change the design of the field into the shape of a football

it wouldn't surprise me if they just have the defense to count to WHATEVER MISSISSIPPI then rush
I would definitely want my cb to knock the snot out of the receiver if possible

I can't hardly stand to watch it anymore. the refs sort of pick and choose what they call and when they call it. they rely way to much on the tape review. then some things that are critical can't be reviewed. teams only get 2 reviews. if it's there to make the game fair, why not just have a booth review for every play? that would seem more fair for both teams.

anyway, I'm leaning way toward spending the money on the O, early and often in this draft to fill holes and upgrade some positions as well as giving us depth for that nasty injury we always seem to get.

I would promote a WR and TE in the first 2 rounds. I know we have a TON of needs on defense, but I think we are a better team next year if we have an offense which creates mismatches all over the field. The offense and defense both were about the same rank in the league, but I am more willing to get offensive playmakers at the moment. I think we can get contributors on D in the later rounds.

I don't think so. I mean seattle still wins by playing defense. chiefs are in the playoffs because their d was forcing turnovers early. I still think a solid defense can cover up a lot of problems a team has but same can be said about a good offense. in the playoffs when the weather is bad. I will take a defense

    I agree mac..
As long as we have #7 we have to give him weapons in today's NFL. Can you imagine the numbers Marino would put up if he was playing today?

If they draft players on offense early they will get on the field faster, and Ben needs more weapons to run the no huddle offense.

I'm not able to watch the game right now, but I'm going to catch the replay later tonight. There's nothing that he'll do today that will change my outlook one way or the other. He would be an awesome addition to the Steelers. He's a route technician in terms of footwork. A little half-time stat I just saw: At halftime, Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews has the 3rd most receiving yards in a season in SEC history. He's 41 shy of moving into 2nd.
Yeah! Johnson is a sleeper. For a "little guy", he can hold the edge. He gets upfield in a hurry, too. He would be a great late round value pick.

I agree, build a balanced team.

Denver may prove me wrong but I don't think they will win the SB, not even sure they will get there, defense is terrible.

I would be all for getting some more weapons for Ben if we weren't so thin on D. Aside from the D-Line, we have very, very limited depth. We are one injury at CB, ILB, OLB, or S, from having to play a serious scrub in a starting role on defense... We don't have that issue on offense (except for maybe RB? or WR depending on Cotch).

I'm sure we will get 1 offensive player in the first 3 rounds, and I'd be willing to bet its round 1or 2 with a WR (Mike Evans, Marqise Lee, Robinson PSU, Benjamin FSU, etc.). After that we'd be really dumb not to go CB then LB (or vice versa) in rounds 2 and 3, then take a chance on later round guys on O. I'd guess we take a WR, RB, 2 LB, S, 2 CB, and either a TE or and OL this year.

what about LT? do you think we will be fine if beachum goes down? if we lose bell we are in that boat too. no team will be as good without their starters. I don't see that big of need at TE or WR or RB or LB in the first. I wouldn't complain though.
