Now that the dust has settled and we know where we will be drafting does anybody have any idea on when Mr. Goofball is going to stick it to us?

Rooney should call him up and say since we were screwed out of the playoffs, we're all even.

I will lose any semblance of respect I may still have for Goodell if he still insists on taking a draft pick away from the Steelers.

I definitely think we should not have to sacrifice the draft pick now, due to the recent debacle in SD. Some sort of compensation should be given to the Steelers. If the penalty was called and kick was re-attempted we would probably be in the playoffs. That non call cost the Steelers organization some money. Either the refs need to be fined, or we get an extra pick in the draft. The players don't get penalized on the field for some hits and what not, then they get slapped with a fine days later for the non call. same should go for the officials. It's no different.

I cannot think of any decision he's made recently that I've been in favor of. So I don't believe I have any respect for him.

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually have a little empathy for the position Goodell finds himself in. On the one hand, he's got class action lawsuits from former players and their families over the issue of head trauma, and on the other hand he's trying to reduce those injuries by protecting the current players from unnecessary headshots. I think he's gone overboard in some cases and, unfortunately, it's led to an increase in lower leg injuries but he is in a tough position. His biggest issue right now is incompetence in the ranks. We complained about the replacement refs last year but I don't think they were much worse!

Yeah, but Goodell's sole purpose is money. He only wants to protect the league from more lawsuits so there is more profit. Thats why he wants to expand the playoffs, expand the season, expand # of teams, expand into Europe, change rules to make it a more offesive show. I think he wants to be known as the commissioner that created the most wealth for the owners who hired him.

He doesn't care about the players, he only cares about profit.

That's what I was gonna say. I think it is nothing but grandstanding when they talk about protecting players. I think they are protecting shareholders actually. I still see what Jack is saying though.

Goodell is a piece of chit and will still dock a pick even though we got hosed out of the playoffs. I never trust him to do the right thing.

Other people have stated that the league could require players to wear better helmets to reduce injuries.
But the improved design gets rid of the "crack" when helmets collide, so it is not as exciting for fans.

I have the same feelings for Gooddell that James Harrison has although I am not nearly as impacted by the iron fist as he has been.

They shouldn't lose a pick the Ravens didn't make the playoffs. What Tomlin did had no effect on the standings.

Thats what I was thinking but the fact that we know where we will pick and there's no news has me a little paranoid. I'm starting to think goodell is still going to steal a pick even though the sideline incident didn't have any impact. I can see goodell looking at the whole thing as a "what might have happened" kind of thing and sticking it to the steelers.

While I agree with what you said it also requires Goodell to make a rational decision, and that's something he's not very good at imo.

I think it's more of a legal loophole. They don't want to state the exact helmet model for the entire league to wear, as that would open them up to further lawsuits if the helmets don't do as advertised. It's the same in hockey and the other sports. The player decides what brand/model protective gear/features they wear.

The Steelers have a history with losing a draft pick. The Steelers lost their 3rd round pick in the 1979 draft because the team was found to have practiced with pads during an off-season period when pads were not allowed.

I really don't think the league wants the players wearing inferior helmets just for the crack sound

:lolol: Yeah Roger the Dodger is a thorn in my side. He has changed the NFL for the money, not for the game and I resent him for that..

This. The clown Goodell is ruining the game. I have no empathy for this @ss clown. And I know i'm not alone in hating. Watch the Draft this year. Every year this clown gets booed off the stage. Love it! He is taking Defense out of the game, the rules are so skewed that the zebras cannot keep up with all the changes so they miss no brainer calls because they are so worried about helmet to helmet, breathing on receivers , hits to the QB ect. The rules have caused paranoia and doubt for these part time zebras.
Just look at the non call that kept the Steelers out of the playoffs. This was a no brainer call with 2 zebra's standing there. I feel the zebra's need to be full time, not weekend warriors.

Rooney II said he would file a protest if a pick is taken away. He also said the zebra's need to do a better job.

Helmets no matter what they are made of cannot stop the brain from moving or being traumatized. That is the issue. The concussion rules have gotten stricter because of the lawsuits. If there is a possibility of a concussion the player will still be evaluated on the sideline, brought into the locker room and be tested there if there is any doubt. The protocol now will be they will have to leave the sidelines if concussed.
