I hope this turns out to be right because I was afraid MCLendon might not be a good run stuffer.

Maybe they should try him at DE and put Al Woods in at NT. He seemed to do a good job in that spot.

I would keep him where he is and let both he and Woods develop into that role. NT is not as huge a concern for me right now as other positions - ILB, CB and FS in particular.

I don't think he is bad, but I think anyone can see he is no Casey Hampton.

Yes, Ryan Clark and our ILB are to blame too...

Let's not forget that we also lost our starting ILB w1.
I'm ok with McLendon as starting NT.
Also, let's not forget that V Williams & Heyward are starting to shine, and that will show up for our Run D next year.

I'm hoping next season Vince Williams becomes the player he's promised for much of this season.

The foote injury hurt the steelers more than people think...Williams is a good run stopping down hill ILB, but is horrible in space..That is why you saw Garvin in the nickel and also when Garvin went out ...the reason why you saw Troy Play a lot of Nickel-Backer

Also Sean Spence was supposed to be the guy that could do both...lets hope he comes back very strong next year

No doubt - would be awesome to see Spence playing again full stop.

I think Williams has had a steep learning curve this season and done well, though obviously still gaps in his game - he wasn't drafted to be a starter, after all, so he's been a pleasant surprise. Despite that missed tackle early on in the season in a goal-line stand.

I think Garvin could be the full time starter next year. He has developed quickly and if he adds like 10 pounds this off season I think he could be a beast. If he does that he will be 6'3" and 245 and athletic. He also seems to have a good work ethic as well.

I think troy playing ILB hurt our defense more than McClendon playing NT. On top of that rookie inside linebacker and rookie outside linebacker would make any defense a little weak.

Ditka said Troy had to do that because he absolutely "can't cover" anymore.

Troy at ILB was a stop gap last minute kind of thing....

If he made the switch now, studied the position and bulked up in a full offseason maybe he could become a pretty good ILB...thoughts?
