But this time, it's good stuff!

Roethlisberger and former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians were known to have a good relationship and trust in one another, but Roethlisberger said this is the most input he has had on an offense in his 10 years in the league. Roethlisberger also worked with Ken Whisenhunt when he was offensive coordinator in Roethlisberger's early seasons.

"All of the coordinators have been open to input, but this is probably the most they've accepted it, and we've used it and tweaked it and done things to benefit the team," he said.

Where are the critics that said Haley was too stubborn to get input from Ben and allow him to call his own plays? This is seriously good news. No matter how this season ends up, I'm excited with the way our offense has evolved and look forward to the future. It's the defense that needs a housecleaning in the off-season.

I certainly think Haley has helped Bens game. I always thought the problem was with Ben not wanting to get on board with what Haley was trying to do, although i have no proof of that, it just felt that way to me.

I think last season, Haley was a my way or highway guy, I think he has made some adjustments to his approach. I get the impression there was big problems last season, not just between players and Haley but other coaches and Haley as well.

Whatever happened, the offense is starting to come together :applaud:

I have always thought it was Ben just being comfortable with XYZ and not wanting to try new things. The reality if though that some of these things are working and Ben I think is now understanding that by looking at the film.

Haley had to be that way though. You have a team that has a history of not listening to coaches they don't respect like the line coach Faneca's last year. Haley was the second highest ranked coach he can't come in being soft and allowing the team to walk all over him. He has to be hard the first year and then ease up.

I just think that is pure non provable hogwash.

Ben was putting up MVP numbers last year before he got injured and insisted on returning too soon after the injury.

The TH - BR love/hate relationship is probably 99% rumored amateur journalistic garbage.

I tend to believe it's true, especially what we know about Haley, plus several position coaches jumped to new jobs that were not to advancement positions and some even lesser positions.

It's far from rare for someone to go into a lesser position if they believe it gives them a better chance at a promotion. If they didn't feel there was a chance for a promotion in Pittsburgh, then it makes sense for them to go to a new franchise where they feel they have a better chance at climbing the ladder.

I think a lot of the Haley stuff has really been overblown, with some of it being completely fabricated.

I tend to believe it too since Ben admitted to reverting to calling plays by their Arian's terminology in the later portions of last season. Not just the hand signals but the plays themselves. This is going to create division and cause problems. Haley's having to come in like a bad ass was going to cause friction especially with coaches who have been there a while and he might have said "um Todd that isn't how we do things here." and he has to tell them the way they used to do things is now in Indy so they can choose. He had to establish his authority and that is going to rub people the wrong way. So I believe there were problems but not as great as some are making stories out of.

It may happen but its hardly common and we had 3 do it, pretty telling to me, especially when you consider the reports of friction with Haley and other coaches. I think this year it's mostly fabricated but last year, there was a problem.

Agreed and believe they have worked through most of that now. Going to be interesting to see how the offense performs next season, I can't see them cutting Haley loose now.

I recall the thing about Ben calling BA's plays in the no-huddle last season at times. I would't read any more into that other than Ben not being quite there mentally with being able to call TH's plays on the fly. Let's be frank - Ben isn't known as the smartest, most studious QB out there. My guess is that he needed to revert to what he knew from years of reinforcement to be able to call plays quickly because he didn't have Haley's offense fully assimilated.

I don't read anything into it more than what Ben said. He didn't understand why if it is the same play as they had under Arian's why they had to change the name. Like you said he isn't the most studious QB out there but you can see how this can contribute to confusion and division in a locker room and add fuel to stories about Ben and Haley. Guys working hard to memorize their playbook only to have Ben call plays from the old one, I'm sure some of the newer players on offense were confused at times. The bottom line for me is that last season really was one of missed opportunities, especially for Ben in my opinion.

Yeah, I have to agree here. I think the situation with Ben wanting to use BA's terminology was simply because it was easier at the time for Ben and probably the rest of the offense since Haley was new and bringing in his system. Just like everything else it takes time to learn and I think Ben and the O have finally started to gel in Haley offense.

Like BF said, i can't see them getting rid of Haley at this point, unless Haley wants to go. I know some wont agree but I think Haley has been one of the best things to happen to Ben. L:ike the guy or not, I honestly think in the end Haley will have helped prolong Bens NFL career.

Yeah i think so too Jack. I don't think it's coincidental that he's having one of his best seasons this year. Not everything is instantaneous. It takes time to learn and gel and I think the offense has finally "got it". I'm also starting to think that maybe....just maybe our major o-line issues are behind us. I'm sure we'll still have issues but it's starting to feel like they're turning things around. :crosses fingers:
