6 catches for 64 yards. He had 3 catches in the Lions game and 3 catches in the Vikings game.

Outside of Brown, our WR's have been terrible.

What are you kidding me. Cotchery has been clutch and Sanders performed well as well. Throw in Miller and Bell out of the backfield there's no room for a 4th wr. Also don't forget he had finger surgery after the Minnesota game and missing time kills rookies.

I'm disappointed in Wheaton's rookie season too but Cotchery has had a very good season. To me, Cotch is a must re-sign in the off season.

Maybe the offense is too difficult for rookies... :smiley1:

Totally agree right now wheaton is a question mark as is Moye. Cotchery is built for Haleys system. Hell Ward just did the iron man he would kill it it Haleys system they should bring him back I'm joking but he really would have.

Sanders getting 700 yards through 15 games and likely will not reach 800 by the end of the reason, this is not what we need from our #2 WR, esp in our system.

Cotchey has been very solid for us, but its a same Wheaton hasn't been able to get on the field

I thik if you look at the early part of the season they were unsure about how the line would perform and kept multiple Te's in there as well as Olinemen in the TE position that limits how many WR's you can put on the field. Couple that with the desire to keep Ben healthy and it makes for less opportunities for guys further down the depth chart. Sanders should be slot almost always but who do you put outside?

Meybe Wheaton needs to keep his fingers away from Ben's stuff, as they are locker room neighbors. LOL :smiley1:

Sigh. Not every receiver can be as good as Mike Wallace in his rookie season, you know...

I think if Ben was struggling to find people to pass to, you'd have a point. But Wheaton has low numbers a) because he's hardly on the field and b) because he's dropped a fair few. But mostly a). I wouldn't call that a failure, I'd call it a standard rookie season for a guy at no.4 on the depth chart.

I don't think he has failed,
Cotchery and Sanders have both played well
and TE and RB positions also have to see the ball. Sanders will find greener
pastures some place else next year, so here
is hoping Marcus is up to the challenge of
    catching 50 balls next year.

The guy has 6 catches and 13 targets. It isn't like he was getting a ton of opportunities. After Sunday, we will have 5 different guys with over 70 targets, I'm not sure how much more we should have expected.

His opportunity will come next year when Sanders is gone, and he will deliver. I can see Brown, Wheaton, Cotch (in the same role he played this year) as our main three WR's, with the winner of the Moye/J. Brown battle as the 4th WR and the other as the gameday inactive 5th WR. I'd be tempted to not re-sign Cotch and let J. Brown and Moye see more playing time. May be a preemptive move to prevent what is happening on our defense from happening to our offense.

The guy is 4th on the depth chart, and with Cotch playing so well and getting touchdowns, it's taking up some playing time for him, plus he also has had broken finger issues for the 2nd half of the year.

So I'm amazed why you expect such production from the guy.

I'm not going to call him a bust yet. However, I still think that our starter opposite AB next season should be a big-framed (not necessarily taller than average), strong, physical type of receiver who can make catches in traffic - especially in the red zone. The only exception that I would make would be if the guy were a fast game-breaking type of receiver like Watkins from Clemson. I don't see Wheaton or Cotch as anything more than #3/#4 types of receivers.

I don't think he was a failure at all. It takes time. The consensus is it takes about 3 years for WR's to hit their stride. He's a rookie and i'm sure Ben would much rather target his vets. The next two seasons should be the time to evaluate his performance.

don't forget, his graduation was later and he missed all the mini camps. add broken fingers and I can see why his production is down.
