It's the design of the stadium. Even new people liked to go stand on the end ramps. Seattle was designed to enhance the noise and thier fans have embraced the 12th man concept.

Old Three Rivers used to actually rock when people got going in the stands!

I'd have to go back to the articles about the designing phase. I thought one of the requirements was a more open arcitecture design. Showing/highlighting the building materials and the cities skyline.

Which is understandable given the prevailing thoughts in stadium design when it was built and the fact that old Three Rivers was a concrete doughnut!

Heinz Field's open end steals a lot of the noise I would think. K.C.'s stadium is like a bowl and they set a sports decibel level record earlier in the season.

Yup, even the closed end of Heinz isn't really that closed. the way those other stadiums are designed, they are using the same principle as if you put your telephone in a bowl to amplify the speaker. (it's a lot cheaper than a docking staion as well)

The biggest noise concern for the next home game might be empty seats. I went to the Cleveland game last December and the place looked 1/2 empty. (This was at kickoff. )

The Steelers aren't technically out of it yet but a lot of fans may consider the season a done deal anyway.

Its mainly the stadium design. Our seats are in the front row by the field and from time to time Heinz rocks but nothing like 3RS. Heck it took fans about three years to figure out the old chant of here-we-go-steelers-here-we-go dosnt work at Heinz Field. It sounds like you are singing "in the round" whereas here-we-go-steelers-here-we-go at 3RS would bring the house down and would sound like 1 voice.
