From Gerry Dulac's blog. :hmmm: See it?

Ben Roethlisberger is on pace to have personal highs in passing yards and completions and would finish with 28 touchdowns. He also is tied for first in the league (with Peyton Manning and Phillip Rivers) with 47 passes of 20 yards or longer.

It isn't ironic at all, the team has been playing from behind most of the season and even when there is a lead the line can't block well enough for a sustained running attack so the only real offense if throwing the ball with the guy some want to see traded.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the past two years have arguably been the best two, statistically speaking, of Ben's career. Haley isn't my top choice for OC, but he has a lot to do with that success and I don't think deserves a lot of the jeers thrown his way.

Keep trying. I'm looking for something specific from the little blurb I posted.

The 47 passes of 20 yds or more sticks out to me.

BINGO! Don't you find it ironic that Ben is leading the league in passes of 20 yards or longer in a Todd Haley coached offense, which focuses on the short passing game? We've got some playmakers at the skill positions who contribute to that, but maybe Ben is finally understanding that you don't have to fling it downfield 30 or 40 yards, like he always did in BA's offense, to have vertical success in the passing game. I hope Ben and Haley are starting to understand each other and it appears they may very well be!

Just wait, they'll fix that next year ... either Haley will be history, or Cotchery and/or Sanders will be gone.

"Best statistical season" is subjective to the stats you are looking at. He is not having his best with wins, td%, td to int ratio, or yards per attempt.

he creates alot of turnovers that puts the defense in bad positions which affects the o-line too. yes, qb's are based on wins too.

i do think some of it has to do with playing from behind.

haleys offense isn't anti throw deep by any means. remember some of the old came into play this year when they all got together to work out the play book and what works and what they didn't like. the short game opens up the long game in his offense. 47 times doesn't seem that high. penalties some times make a call for long throws too. add the playing from behind that may have added half of them.

if the defenses are giving it to you, you take it. thats what this offense is about. making them creep up, then going over their heads. the no huddle is a tool that has made it all look better.

I just wonder how many plays Ben has called vs Haley's calls? I'm betting Ben has ran what he wants more than we know

If your going to kill him for the losses with his early Tos then you have to give him credit for the 5-2 record in the last 7...cant have it both ways

Did I see somewhere that Ben needs 3 TDs to become the Steelers All-Time TD passer?

never said he didn't deserve credit for those wins. when he doesn't turn it over it's pretty obvious that we have a much better chance of winning. you can't just put the loses on someone else and the wins on him. LOL:cool:

It may seem like wins is a bad stat, but QB's who don't win, usually don't stick around. Ben is near the tops in the league in winning percentage, if he plays long enough he will be near the top in all time wins. I originally brought up the wins stat because 2006 and 2009 were two of Ben's better statistical years in some categories but not in wins.
