This is very interesting. I wanna get into it more when I get the time. Right now I have a room to paint. But looking at it, the Steelers only spend $47M on offense in 2013? Wow. And on $10M on the O line? Wow X 2.

    Thanks for posting this.

I'm also surprised to see how much the Seahawks are paying their o-line. You get what you pay for, I guess.

    Thanks for posting, mac.

Good call. Only two other teams had less cap space afforded to O line this year. Bears (barely) and Raiders. Left Tackles are expensive.

your welcome. TTF had the main page of this in one of the 100 ben posts so he deserves the credit. I just put it in it's own thread so it wasn't lost in a thread for everyone to see.

there are several headings that tell a grim picture coming.

you can track whats going to be spent on what positions also. pretty interesting. they do have things like levi brown's money that will change things even more to the defense. good stuff though.

One could possibly make the argument that the offense is playing a lot closer to their worth than the defense has been as of late. :hmmm:

Great Post. Made me think a lot and will require a lot more digesting of the info. On initial look from the defense side I don't think we are getting 31M return on our LB's (appears to be the highest in the league). I would also question the return on our Safety dollars as it is one of the highest in the league. Yes a few years ago Troy would have justified being on the higher end, but today I would question the dollars spent. We may have a bargain compared to the rest of the league at DE.

On the offensive side, I think at the QB side we are right in line with the rest of the league. I also think with what we have at receiver we are in line with middle of the league payroll. How did the dolphins have less payroll in WR after signing Wallace? At tight end we are on the higher side and yes Heath is awesome but are we getting value at this position for being in the top of the league. The O line being in the bottom part of league payroll, well we all know this from their performance.

    Just my quick observations

Question: When our offense at least looks like they have started to turn things around, and given the fact we are already spending more money on the defense, why will the Steelers probably end up resigning more defensive players rather than offensive players?? :hmmm:

Yeah, my thoughts were along the same line. The game is more and more slanted toward the offensive side of the ball, yet the Steelers are more heavily invested in the defense. I'd like to see more balance going forward. It will take time, but I think starting this offseason you will see more money shifted to the offensive side of the ball. The trick is freeing up that cash without being caught it cap hell with tons of dead money.

Found this site the other day during halftime.... if I understand this table correctly... our cap hit goes UP if we were to cut Woodly before the deadline for the 2014 season???

(on a related, but decidedly off, topic... one writer commented he was probably 280 or 290 instead of his listed 260lb... was he really that much in the driver seat that we couldn't put a weight-based performance clause in there??)

I think Woodley has to stay for one more. after next season we could do the after june 1 cut of Woodley and break his money up into two years. the elephant in the room is colon's 4.2 million already on the dead money hit list. that will be gone for the 2015 season, then we could do something with wood. we will also have another season with money off of his contract by then.

Not for us. For us our C and RG will be expensive. I'm not a fan of the way this team is put together.
