interesting near the bottom of foote saying butler played a long time but he hasn't been out there lately. any rumblings you think of foote becoming a LB coach if butler takes the DC job soon?

jerry O is helping out this year too with the LB'ers. they have finally started playing better this year as a group. Williams has been used less and less though. we have been actually running a version of a 4-3. hood and heyward at DT's and woilds and JJ at OLB/DE. troy is starting out in the box as an ILB/SS. we use 3 CB and 3 S. Timmons has become more of a MLB with the help of a rover (troy).

good read none the less.

I haven't watched but 2 games this season but when I listen and what I did watch it seems that we should C/B Blitz more which would give the LB's more freelance ability. It seems we've become too predictable with the DL pressure and not enough pressure on the QB's other than JJ.
Correct me if I'm wrong. As I've said I have listened to most games only.

heyward is being disruptive since he's been starting and in this hybrid type D they have been using some of. ziggy even got one last week. worilds looked good in woodleys spot and we may see it again this week. Woodley , nor keisel practiced today. JJ did some good things as did Timmons. it worked well last week in 3 quarters anyway.

I'm actually liking Worilds in at Woodley's spot with JJ on the other side. So far so good imo. Heyward has stepped it up too. I liked what i saw of the D last week. Looked a lot more motivated. I think some of the younger guys are starting to catch on to their assignments which will allow the older vets to do their thing without worrying about compensating for others....I hope :)

    if anything
the youngins stepping up helps the veterans and hopefully the whole defense going down the stretch
which is what we'll need for the push to get in the playoffs.
I stated in the predict score thread I feel our defense will have good game in Cleveland. I was leaning towards a shutout, butt
    I take a shutout on
    THANKSGIVING NIGHT :dancing:

It's 4 of them out there they should. It has always been a stable in Pittsburgh. I know all remember. Chad brown, Levon Kirkland, Greg Lloyd, and Kevin Greene. I think that was the best 4 we had. I think we can have that greatest again with Jarvis JOnes, Vince Williams, Timmons, and Woodley. We just have to remember that two of the four are rookies and that is unheard of in Lebeau's defense. Woodley, Porter, Haggans, Foote, Harrison, Gildeon never started there rookie season. It was at least two years before they even seen the field in the nickel. Give them time and be patient.

it's pretty telling though about Timmons now calling the defense. he said he never had to worry about that before with foote and farrior. why not? butler always said every LB knows every spot. I guess Williams wasn't making all the calls as a rookie.

I think this trend will continue of the "big safety" or "smaller LB" as a norm going forward. some of the reason we have missed spence. he fits that role. having troy also changes things up for us because the offense doesn't know if he's a LB or dropping as a safety.

if you notice our DB's are making a majority of the tackles this year. usually that's not a good sign, but this is much more by design.

Hey mac remember back some years ago when they were at the height of "Blitzburgh" and alot was made about how the LB's had test to take each week to see if they knew what they were responsible for on any given blitz? Do they still do that? I haven't heard anything about it lately and seems odd that they would move away from something that works to bring players along in the mental aspect of the game.

I couldn't tell you thorn. who was our LB coach then? capers was the DC.

I'd love me some chan gailey, dom capers and bobby april as our Co-O's again. they used to take coaches from us, now ours are not in such high demand.:hmmm::cool:

I'm thinking the LB Coach was maybe Marvin Lewis, he was here around the same time as Capers.
