first let me say that i love Heath and he has been a great Steeler, but i just think his best days are behind him.

i know hes coming of a major injury, but i just dont think his game fits todays NFL. hes slow and not super athletic.

hes dropped a couple tds this season and he just doesnt have the speed to be a big threat. he catches the ball and gets tackled for the most part. he was never fast, but he had the ability to make guys miss and get some gains.

i think in the draft they need to look at a tall fast athletic TE.

his blocking has also not been very good this year. i would like to see Paulson get some more chances. heck they have 20 TE's on the roster. its time to see what some of them can do.

I have to disagree. Speed was never Heath's strength. What makes him special is that he can receive and block especially well.

a gree about the speed, but his catching and blocking hasnt been that great this year. i know he had 8 catches, but he dropped an easy td and he dropped a td a couple weeks also.

like you said speed was never his game, but if his catching and blocking abilities are starting to go than what do you have with him aside from another high priced under achieving vet on the team.

    why?

isnt that the mentality that has put them in the position they are in? they stick with the vets until the very end even if its obvious they are not the same player they use to be. they keep extending and restructuring all these contracts for these guys that are not very good anymore and in the mean time the young guys just stand on the sidelines getting no playing time until they are forced to play due to an injury then it takes them half the season to figure it out.

they have 20 TE's on the roster. play some of them. Heath is not immune to criticism.

I don't know what you are talking about. his blocking has been solid again this year in my opinion. he is still a top 3 all around te. he will stay there another 3 years at least.

I agree he's clearly not 100% and I agree he's had some issues with blocking. Is he done?? Not by a long shot. I'm sure he'll be back to his old self in time.

the problem is this. TE's are becoming a huge part of teams passing games now. you need an athletic TE's now a days.

Heath is not a top 3 TE. sorry but he might be a top 10 at best, but thats pushing it at this point.

The game has changed though. We need a TE that can stretch the field. We need to try to find a Jimmy Graham style of TE. Heath is a dinosaur and we need to think of replacing him in the next couple drafts.

I would rather not see Paulson get more chances, he has dropped plenty of them. I'd rather see Heath continue to work back to 100%.

i dont think hes done, but they need to be looking for his replacement. what made him great was not only could he catch and move the chains, but he was also a great blocker. his blocking started falling off last season and its continued this year.

Wait, so you want to bench Heath in favor of Paulson? Paulson, who had a huge hand in the Cincy loss with a costly fumble, and who let the ball bounce off his face on a 2 yard screen pass yesterday?

there are so many Steeler fans that just dont want to see change.

im not saying i dont like Heath, but like you said the game is changing and big, fast and athletic TE's that can run are a huge part of the game now.

they are the same people that want to see DL keep running the same style defense out there each week hoping that its gonna start working against these high powered fast paced offenses we are seeing now.

no i dont want Heath benched. i just dont want to see them keep rolling Heath out there until he has absolutely nothing left and in the meantime they have no replacement for him and they have 20 other TE's on the roster that have gotten no playing time.

the game has changed and so has what is expected from a TE.

Heath Miller is still good to go. Anyone who is going to replace him is surely not on the roster. Those looking for a "Jimmy Graham type TE" are going to be looking for a long time. They are extremely rare. Not that we were really looking hard at the time, but we instead of drafting Graham, we drafted Emmanuel Sanders. An obvious miss by our scouting dept and Colbert, but many teams missed on that pick.

I do agree with the notion that in the future, perhaps we should be looking for the new-age breed of field-stretching TE. But to find one with Graham's talents is going to be more luck than anything. Or hard work by our scouts...

Heath's coming off the injury and probably came back earlier than expected. If he still seems to be off his game next season then I could see some cause for concern, but not now.
Nothing wrong with looking at another TE in the draft.

I think that Heath has got a few good years left. I would like to see them draft a future replacement either this year or next so Heath can show them the ins and outs.

IMO I honestly don't know if I'd keep any of the other TE's we currently have as none of them are anything to write home about. Spaeth, is a knee surgery waiting to happen and who knows what David Johnson's injury will be next year, maybe a shoulder this time. Palmer may well be the best of the lot?

I'm with other posters. There's not another TE on this roster I'd care if they cut today. Heath will play another 5 years. He, much like Hines, uses his hands and his head to make plays... and he can do that until he's 40.

If there was a freak athlete later in the draft I'd have no problem taking him and pairing him with Heath, but he's not going anywhere. Yes, he's looked shaky lately, but it's been a few games, if he goes a full season like that (when healthy) then we'll talk.

It amazes me, that will so many weak spots on the roster people want to replace the few spots that we're actually okay at.

we ne to find a te (graham style) to PAIR with miller not to replace him

since we can't spend an high pick (we have other pressing needs) we can take lyerla in the later rounds and hope he will become a good boy

I don't think there's any doubt we need to draft a decent TE. Not a Pope. And dear lord not a Paulson.

I think our run game will benefit immensely from having a bona fide TE alongside Miller. Spaeth maybe could have filled that role, but it wasn't to be this season.

But I don't think Heath is done just yet.

Their solution for next year will prolly either try to get Adams to slim down or have J.Brown to try to bulk up.

Jimmy Graham and Gronk weren't drafted high. We don't need to take a TE high in the draft, we just have to draft the right kind of TE and we need to develop them properly. TE's don't usually become studs overnight in the NFL, it takes a couple years. Jimmy Graham was a nobody his first year. Julius Thomas was a nobody his first 2 years.

If our offence wants to compete with the other top offences in the league, we need a TE that can stretch the field. Heath just isn't fast enough
