Many of us have been critical of the coaching staff's seeming unwillingness or inability to make second half adjustments. Well, obviously we made 'em today. Stafford was on pace to throw for over 600 yards and Johnson was on pace to have over 300 yards receiving after the first half. Shannon Sharpe was gloating and rubbing salt in Cowher's wounds over his prediction that the Steelers would win. And then...WE SHUT THEIR BUTT'S OUT IN THE SECOND HALF!!!!!!!!

Obviously, we made the necessary adjustments to take Stafford and Johnson out of the game but, since I didn't get to watch the game, I have no idea what DL did. Can those that watched the game offer some insight into what the second half adjustments were that enabled the Steelers to come back for the big win?

Crickets.....No one's gonna acknowledge that the staff can actually make in-game adjustments.
I think there were also more healthy bodies to choose from, Will Allen helped bracket Megatron, and some guys sucked it up and played with pride.

Just listened to all the post game interviews and each D player said they made no adjustments and went with the same scheme. Basically, said they focused better, were I the right position and limited mistakes.

One thing not being mentioned is that we were able to man up and play in this weather. They were sorta able to sell out on the pass because the backs couldn't keep their footing. Also I don't know if anyone saw this but there was a play where their RB got past the line and shook off some tacklers and MCLendon came from all the way down the field and nailed him from behind and I thought that showed an incredible amount of effort and hustle on his part.

Idk what they did, but it sure worked! We looked like a different team coming out of the break. I actually heard one of the announcers praise Tomlin and how he was almost trying to will his team into staying together. I noticed how no one on the board mentioned that little tidbit... (not trying to cause another heated Tomlin discussion, I was just throwing that out there). All around nice team win. Coaching, execution, heart, and pride. Wasn't always pretty but a win is a win, and we got it against a quality team.

First half... Ike was on the coverage island by himself. Missed critical tackles that could have limited CJ's YAC.

second they gave Ike a safety helper. Between Clark & will smith & Ike, they were able to keep stafford away from CJ. I think I heard he was only targeted 3 times in the second half. One was a breakup by Clark in the end zone, one was a pick on the same route he had the big 70+ yard td, where gay & smith were in coverage, and I don't remember any other targets.

i do suspect the downpour was a significan adjustment too.... We seemed more prepared for the rain.

i thought the tv coverage was horrible.

They said at the start of the 2nd half they weren't making any as well.

"There weren't any halftime adjustments at all," Troy Polamalu said. "We just gave up some big plays, some of them on missed coverages, but sometimes it was just a matter of great players making great plays."

"Ike Taylor did a great job in the second half," Allen said. "We didn't change the game plan. Ike Taylor had him man-to-man. Followed him around the field. They made some plays in the second quarter, which we thought they would. You can't stop Calvin Johnson. But we slowed him down tremendously in the second half. Got some pressure up front. Got to confusing them"

They can say what they want, but on CJ's first TD, there wasn't a safety within 20 yards.... on Allen's INT, there were 4 defenders on the same route within 5 yards of CJ. That sure seemed like an adjustment. Classic "Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me" scenario.

Perhaps coming out and admitting that you made adjustments is a sign of weakness with your plan to begin with. Clark said in his postgame that there was better execution and some "veteran savvy changes" to go along with better pressure on the QB. Maybe what they mean is that the scheme stayed the same, but within that scheme, the modifications made are within the normal ebb and flow of the game.

Absolutely. Every target that Johnson had in the second half, he was doubled. I have no clue why he wasn't for the ENTIRE game.

I don't blame Ike at all for what happened in the first half, even for the missed tackle on the long TD. No CB in the NFL is going to do much better 1 on 1 with Megatron.

from the reports and from Troy they didnt make any adjustments. they just played better.

im one of those guys that says this coaching staff is maybe the worst at making in game adjustments and yesterdays performance doesnt change that.

if you watch the game they didnt really do anything different in the second half. they just all did their jobs better.

and why cant Ike catch the freakin ball. 2 absolute gifts and he drops them both. the Lions scored 10 points after those drops.

I agree. The corners definitely had safety help on CJ during the second half. So, either that was the plan the whole game and Troy and Clark just didnt do their jobs, or they made adjustments at halftime. Either way, it worked.

I put my ballcap back on and that was the adjustment needed. I had it off in the 2nd qtr.

Good coaches make game time adjustments, why did Lebeau think he could cover CJ with single coverage? Was it not apparent it wasn't working from the git go, that was the problem, there was no game time adjustment, Ike sucks against average receivers, put him up against the best one in the league and your asking for disaster, you think Belichick would have left CJ in single cover for an entire half????

Didn't the Lions run a lot more in the second half? Granted, they did keep Johnson locked down in the second half, but how many targets did the rest of the team have in the second half? I distinctly remember the Lions running with decent success after the half.

I don't know why they treat the word "adjustments" as taboo. Do they think it makes them look bad or maybe they won't be able to say " we do what we do and that's how we do it". I don't know .I think it would make them look smart to say they made them, all the good teams make adjustments. What's the problem with admitting it. SMH.

2 things, number 1 was the fact the Lions can't run the ball and add a wet field of natural grass and that makes a team one dimensional. The other part was virtually no pass rush in the first half, they got more pressure in the 2nd half which helped and it was great to see the offense put up points but we're still in that mode of having to score at least 30 points to be in the game against decent teams.

Nothing, other than the very next question will be ... who made the adjustments? :lolol:

So you are forced to give someone credit, when more often than not it's likely a joint effort.

I guess we are being told not to believe what we saw with our own eyes. What's the big deal? We made a few adjustments here and there. It's like Roswell. Lol.

And I was thinking that FINALLY the coaching staff seemed to do something tangible that directly led to success and to a win! Guess I was wrong.
