First off, let me say I have seen this board turn into TMZ east the last few days with all the rumors. Let me give you my reality check to help some of you out, so you can stop the madness. The team is less than mediocre, so rumors started flying early this year hence the "trade" talk arrived months ahead of schedule. Ben has 5 good years left, and no doubt we will take our lumps next year as well, but lets say you trade him to some team that would give up a couple of very high picks. Great, now you have more picks, and what do you get out of them? How many ProBowl, Super Bowl winning QBs will you get for those picks? There have been pages of QB BUSTS in the last 30 years that outnumber the great QBs probably 10-1, so why risk selling him, and MAYBE get one of those? Odds are we wouldn't, and if you think some fans have lost their minds over this years team just think what it would look like with a repeat of the 80's around here. People would be jumping off the yellow bridge! You don't trade away your best player with the HOPE you draft a good QB. WE ALREADY HAVE A GREAT QB! You want a good team, fix the Oline and watch what happens. Easier to get those guys than a great QB.( although our scouts seem to lose this battle yearly) its funny how losing some games changes the mindset around here. The same people calling for his trade are some of the same who label Jarvis and LeVeon busts already? Reality check people, these rumors are all leverage for him to get paid by the FO and nothing more. You go ahead and get on the "Draft Teddy" or "Draft Manziel" bandwagon now, and I'm gonna stay right here with Ben, and his rings, and I will see you in a couple years, as I look down on you from the top of the pile laughing. Ben will retire a Steeler period! Will. There be a Ben replacement one day? Sure, but not for a few more years.....

Joe Montana didn't retire a Niner, nor did Brett Favre retire a Packer nor Peyton a Colt. With heavily back loaded contracts and salary cap, no one is certain to retire on th team that made them (or that they made). There comes a point where salary exceeds production and if the player still wants to play and you can't agree on a new lower salary, the goes elsewhere.

This can happen with Ben, probably not this off season. But contract extension talks will be interesting. As they will be last time Ben jas any leverage.

    :this!:

It it all depends on how "negotiable" Ben will be, and I've got a feeling he's going to want to use the remaining leverage he has to parlay that into a max nest egg for him and his family.

When money is involved anything can happen but I think if Ben stays with the Steelers who do not seem to be able to develop a good offensive line to protect Ben, Ben will be so banged up in a couple of more years no one will want him with his big pay check. So yea I think he will retire Steeler.

O'Donnell didn't retire as a Steeler either. Broke my heart, *sniff*. Seriously though, I think Ben stays in Pittsburgh. Mostly because his style of play leads to too many injuries and other teams will shy away from him.

We finally have a winner.

How many MRI's do you think a team trading for Ben will give him?
What if Ben fails an incoming physical for another team?
This (above) is the Rooney's biggest bargining chip.

I am of the mindset that Ben R is
just a figure of his old self
(deep out last year against Cowboys, Int). He has taken
way too many hits over his career, so do you extend this QB that has lost his magic. You know
he is not going to be too happy if he doesn't receive an extension offer, will he play or pout? In two years he will be beat up even more, NOW IS THE TIME to rebuild our team with draft picks.I hope the Rooney's will be looking long and hard at their team going forward this off season.I personally believe we are too many players away
to be a high playoff caliber team with a chance to win a
Superbowl. And to top this off I don't really have confidence in the GM or HC.

Question, if you think Ben is so bad, then what makes you think we are going to get anything in a trade?

Who ever said he was so bad, all I have ever said that he is a shell of his former self. I have said on
numerous posts, that he has been GREAT for the Steelers organization.I just want the Steelers to improve as a team and believe that it would be in our best interest to explore all options. I am of the belief that Be R. would command possibly three
high draft picks in return to a team that feels they are on the cusp of a superbowl run.We are not. Houston Texans come to mind.Would also free up cap space. Sign and trade deal.
We will then be paying money to
    YOUNGER players.

The Raiders gave up a first round pick in the 2012 draft for Carson Palmer. You never know.

I say he stays, take a look at how many "can't miss QBs" have been drafted over the last 20 years, the only ones I know that lived up to hype was P.Manning, A.Luck, and RGlll but RGll is going to have a short carreer, you guys think our QB takes hits to extend a play, that is RGll's entire game, keep him in the pocket and he is good but not great, it is the read option that make him and others like him dangerous. I, like a lot of people here watched in horror when Bradshaw retired and the entire 80s desperation QBs. When Kordell Stewart was a Godsend, well you guys that don't remember the 80s will have no clue. The best was Kent Graham in 2000, how many of us saw that and with the chin as the coach.....I know what those teams, with a dominat defense and a stellar oline looked like, could you imagine what this team would look like with a bad QB with this oline and defense? The other thing I can't understand is everyone yelling about Ben to study the defenses more and that baffles me, the reason is part oline and part play calling. Teams know how bad the oline is, when they blitz every down, take a look at the formations and the receivers, every one of the hot reads has a LB underneath to take away the slant, this is the reason the bubble screen loses yards now as the other receiver can only block 1 guy and 2 are coming as teams do that knowing our current oline can't contain a 4 man rush for 2 seconds let alone 5. No amount of film study is going to change the fact teams don't have to worry about the deep secondary position. We looked better with Mike Wallace because teams had to respect his speed and the fact that Ben is hard to bring down, miss with the blitz and you get beat deep, it happened a lot so he wasn't beat up as bad as he is this season because they don't have the deep threat, AB is quick, not fast, Wallace was pure speed but he wasn't quick which is why the inside route running was suspect. I remember P.Manning tearing our defense to shreds and then come the playoff game when pressure was put on him he folded like a lawn chair, the same thing with Brady, those 2 QBs, who everyone here wishes we had, would be useless here, in fact Brady hasn't been himself this season, he was under pressure a lot more and it showed, but with the Steelers defense not having a great front to rush the QB he unloaded and we all saw the result, put pressure on those guys and they aren't much better than anyone else but they those teams work hard to make sure they are well protected by having quality players and a quality coach, our oline coach is a joke, he'd be one of the offseason coaches that would be gone and the first day after the season ended too. We complained about BA's play calling, Haley is even more predictable, run up the middle on first down, run off tackle left on 2nd down and then empty backfield shot gun for 3rd down unless we lost yards and it is 3rd and 15, then we run the draw, every week the same thing.
