On NFL Network he quoted some anonymous players as saying they wished Ben was more cerebral about the game. Also they want Ben to study the game more away from the facility. If this is true then his teammates are gutless to say stuff behind his back without putting their name on it. Ben must have pissed off somebody at NFL Network because the last week they are all over him.

We all know that the Steelers are well disliked by the talking heads and NFL execs, so maybe its because they are lacking news and have decided to kick us when we are down..lol! In all seriousness though, I think Ian Rapaport needs to shut his pie hole and quit stirring the pot! The Rooneys are well aware of what this team went through during the lean years, and I dont think they are in any hurry to let Ben walk and relive those times. Ben is going to be 32, but the guy can still play and until we have someone in the system who is ready to step in (ala Ben) he will QB this team until he hangs up the cleats!

I believe it all to be true...I think Ben did demand a me or Haley thing and he probably didn't like the answer he got...Even if they planned on a Haley firing I can't see the Team allowing the tail to wag the dog..

I also see to many bad reads from Ben on tape and to many missed audibles from Ben...So yes I can see a player or players complaining about it and not going to Ben about it...If Ben really can't see it and really doesn't see it ,,,it would stand to reason he would turn on that player in the game IMO, or force a bad play at the wrong time...

The same problem he has with Haley...Haley draws up a nice plan and Ben fails to execute it ,not because he lacks talent ,but because he is not a student of the game to a high enough level to make the best read or to call the best play out of the package in real game situations...

everybody talks about remember those lean years. they were not quite as lean as people seem to remember. we had a lot of shots in the playoffs and even championship games in those days. yes we didn't win championships during a good stretch but we had our chances at them. it wasn't as lean as some would like to believe. we are a little spoiled in that regard. most teams would kill for that many shots at it alone. we've made 8 and won 6.

no it's not easy to replace good qb's or everyone would do it. it's the team around them that has to be strong too.

a lot of good qb's were ruined by teams expecting a young rookie to be the savior, without quality parts around them. we had a very good team around that longshot from the MAC and Miami of OHIO qb. we took a chance then because the rest of the team was strong and he was just that good to raise us up that notch to win. we are not close to that level of team around him, he is not enough alone to raise us 5 notches to where we have to be within the next couple of years.

I still say let him play out this contract while we add parts and see where he is and where we are as a team by then. if he wants to finish here he'll stay for a reasonable rate as to not strangle the rebuild. the rooney's can then decide where the team is with him or without him. getting another backup qb (rookie draft pick) in here this year, out of a bunch of good one's, doesn't mean that in 2016 he won't be that guy to raise us that notch to a championship level as a team. maybe some young kid from bumfuk, Idaho will be the new big/terneil O' bradshawlisberger.

While I don't think it is likely that Ben gets moved, here are some things to consider.

    1. Can we afford Ben's extension without further destroying the team's overall depth needed to win?

    2. Who would be our next QB?

    3. What would the return be on the trade? My guess is we would be looking at a couple of firsts back.

    4. How do the reports affect things?

First, if we decide to keep Ben, I think it hurts us. As teams come out and take a positive stance that they would love to have him, his value could be affected in a way which would potentially price him out of our market.

Second, if the goal is to move him, be it cause he hates Haley or the FO is tired of his lack of diligence in studying the playbook, or they don't like his performance...whatever the motivation is, this could be good. Teams who may be interested in him may now pick up the phone and say...are you going to move him? The market could expand. I think it is easy to guess that Pittsburgh West (Arizona) would def. be interested, but who else needs a QB. Minnesota could use someone. Tampa Bay...Oakland...Dolphins...Jags. Anyone else I am missing?

Lastly, I am not opposed to moving Ben, but I doubt it happens. It would surprise me if it happened. It would also signal that the team is in pure rebuild mode, at least that is my perspective on it.

Dale Lolley said he has never seen Silver in the Steelers locker room, only been doing it 21 years. Someone at NFL Network has an ax to grind with Ben. As usual, people are lapping this stuff up, hope the bull**** taste good!

Yeah I honestly wish they would reveal their "sources". I would consider Hines a reliable source and he said he can't see Ben wearing any other uniform and he was meaning that he wasn't going anywhere.

I have zero visibility into the Steelers' organization. All I can do is try to infer based on what limited information is both provided and leaked. And, of course, that information must be sifted through to determine what may be, or may not be, true.

This is how I see it, currently: As with any for-profit company, the Pittsburgh Steelers organization needs to bring in revenue. Keeping a happy fan base, based on a resume of success, is predicated on continuing said legacy. It was all good as long as Ben was winning, but, now that he is not, I see it possible that the FO, facing several other challenges (personnel, cap, etc.) will look to do what is necessary to sustain the organization.

Ben is a great QB. But, the prime aspect of his game appears to be his ability to extend plays. He does this largely due to his size and strength. With his advancing age, he isn't as capable at this strategy as he has been, in the past. Add the No-Line to that, and it's even worse.

Is it possible that the FO is asking, "Why are we paying this guy $100M if he can't put the team on his shoulders for at least a few games?"

Is it possible that Ben's less-than-cerebral style of play is in conflict with where the Rooneys, the FO and/or Tomlin want to take the team, in terms of execution style?

These questions have to be both asked and addressed, in some capacity (considering I presume most of us are not insiders; at least, I am not).

"First of all, how does anybody know what I'm doing at home, when I'm watching film or I'm looking through my playbook at home, unless someone someone's got cameras set up in my house and they're spying on me?" Roethlisberger said. "But then they'd see the truth that I am doing that stuff."

OMG, Haley has rubbed off on Ben. LOL :roflmao:

I have long believed, and I think you and others would confirm this, that Ben is lazy when it comes to film time and knowing the nuances of the defense he's going against that week. He has always relied on sheer physicality and while he still has his moments, he's becoming less able to put the team on his shoulders from a physical standpoint. I don't think the accusation that Ben needs to be more cerebral is far fetched at all.

Not with you on this one Jack. My stance on this has always been that Ben isn't Peyton but who is? Brady is the only other guy who may immerse himself in film study the way Peyton does. But I also believe Ben puts in more work then people give him credit for. I would love to know where all this "Ben doesn't study film" stuff ever came from? I think people grabbed it from the ether because Ben doesn't sound as intelligent as some other QB's when he speaks, I think it's all bull****. I don't think you can be a successful QB in this league without studying film.

The other part of the story I think is BS is that players speaking out about it, I don't think there is a shred of truth to that, if any one is talking, I bet Bobbybiz is right and it's Haley.

You misunderstood me. I'm not saying you're with me on this one as we've debated this point vigorously in the past. I'm saying that you will confirm that I am of the opinion that Ben is not a student of the game and doesn't put sufficient time in studying film. I don't know this for sure, but that's my perception and apparently others have that perception as well. It's an educated perception based on Ben's play. I respect people like Ron Jaworski and others and anytime they are talking about Ben they are going gaga over his physcial ability. His ability to escape pressure and fight off tacklers. Those are all admirable qualities indeed. But you never hear them refer to Ben as someone who read the coverage, audibled at the line and made a defense look silly because of his pre-snap read on the defensive play call. He's not a cerebral guy at all but it's not because he's not smart, it's because he's lazy. IMHO
