Pre-draft I didn't want Lacy and Bell was a RB on my radar I liked.

    Did we make a mistake?

Against the patsies I noticed Bell ... dancing.. aka mendy, more than usual.

Last night Lacy ran hard, north and south and was effective against 8 in the box.

I know our OL stinks but Dwyer looked better than Bell, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I'm with you...didn't want Lacy and said exactly the same thing about looking like Mendy. Not ready to say I was wrong yet, but....

I didn't have Bell ranked nearly as high as the Steelers did, and I scratched my head about picking over Lacy until I heard about his medical after the draft. I preached against drafting a back in the early rounds, as I'm not a fan of that, especially when you are planning to run an OZBS. However, I didn't have a problem with picking Bell. I'm as positive as one could be in a hypothetical world that Lacy wouldn't have half the success he's had behind this line. Bell is a good back and we'll see good things to come from him IMO.

Yes not a fair comparison. GB has a pretty good oline and really has the run game clicking. I am not sure Lacy would be any better than Bell with our oline issues and injuries...

I seen holes lastnight made by Gbay that a road grader could drive through makes it easy for ANY back. Bell was no mistake.. collectively when this O/L matures Bell will too! If Jones and Dwyer starts producing more than he they can send Bell to the rear of the class. IMO he will get better as soon as this team gets their head out of their a** and get back fundamental football.

Don't get me wrong on Lacy.. he's good and fun to watch but more funner to watch Gbay lose! :lolol: Rodgers out with broken collarbone be nice to see him on the bench 12/22

My 3 biggest concerns where his lack of aparent leg power to push the pile for the 1st. down...His blitz pu was really suspect......He looked horrible catching the ball out of the backfield...

Last night was just one game. James Starks ran well too, just with much fewer carries. I think Chicago was just unprepared for sudden running game with the Rodgers injury.

Was discussing this earlier today with some people on twitter.

Initially I wanted Lacy, but I understood why they went with Bell instead. Lacy looked to be damaged goods already... If we drafted him and he spent all his time in sweats on the sideline, this whole MB would've been ripping them for taking a broken down running back.

For those comparing Bell to Mendenahall I think that's crazy. Bell doesn't "dance" in the least. He's patient, and he's effective at making a cutback... But when he sees a hole he hits it. I'd like to see an example of "dancing" on film.

He's not as powerful as Lacy, but he does have power, and speed. And he's a better blocker and pass catcher than Lacy. In my opinion his ceiling is much higher. Swap Lacy and Bell and people would be calling Bell the next Ahman Green for the Packers, and Lacy would be another Dwyer/Redman plodder.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of drafting RBs early either. I think Bell will be okay once we fix our OL. I just thought Lacy ran real hard downhill in an 8 man box and I liked that. I liked seeing him dragging guys too. I look forward to seeing my Steelers return to smashmouth running football.

Where to start? Bell will be a dam good RB for us. This line is awful and he is doing decent work. The long run Dwyer made on Sunday was assisted by a huge hole that if Bell were in would been even longer! Bell did drop some passes and should've made a play on that back shoulder throw as at the least would've gotten a PI on the play, but he can catch and that was evident from MSU. As for Lacy, he has a much better line to play behind, and his numbers are better and that's expected. Personally I like both, but don't fall into the " we picked the wrong guy" bc its way too early for that.

    Thank you for getting it.
Big difference between Bell and Mendenhall. Bell is a patient runner who waits for the hole to open. And when it does, he hits it. Mendenhall didn't do that.

Bell is a very good back. All he needs is a decent line and reps. Lately as soon as he gets to 70 yards the stop feeding him the ball. Being behind don't help either.

oh dare you say anything about fragile tinker bell on this message board or you will be labeled a trouble maker... you have to have the rose colored glass and preach that the steelers will finish 9-6 and make the playoffs ..

I still wish we had a pre-injury Willie Parker type running back....someone that defenses had to respect.

Way to early to tell about Bell. He reminds me of Adrian Peterson from a physical perspective, and he has shown a few instances of patience hitting the holes. However, I have seen little that separates him from a 6-7th round running back. I would rather have had another attempt at a second round lineman with the pick and just picked up a running back late round, or even use dwyer since he can do pretty much what Bell is doing RIGHT NOW behind this line, but I'm just a fan...what do I know.

One thing I can guarantee is that no matter WHO the running back is we will NEVER finish 9-6. LOL.

I like Bell, his game needs some work.If he keeps working(pass catching, blocking)he will be a decent back. My big question
maybe injury prone and will he play thru these injuries?

I would like to see a little more push in his legs on short yardage plays. And please don't throw to him 4 or 5 times a game until he learns how to catch. Lacy does seem to run harder.

Other than that his running stile is okay and with our line it's too early to tell if he will be better than Lacy. I also think we could of got a similar type back in latter rounds that would of had the same results.
