Stopping the run is the cornerstone of a good defense. With the way the rules are QBs are going to get their yards.

The run defense is more surprising.
I don`t know if it`s "worse", but it`s definiteley more surprising.
We`ve had problems in coverage for years. Even tho we still hadn`t been giving up many "big plays", like this year.
But, forever and ever, it seems, one thing you coukld count on was... "You don`t run on the Steelers!"...
While that was being chipped away at, a bit the last year or two, it was still a pretty Damn solid run defense.
    Now???
Like most of the rest of this seasason... I just have no clue... I know it wasn`t JUST losing Casey. McClendon really aint too bad. Hampton was one of a kind. Especially in his prime.
I think losing Silverback, hurt us more in the run defense, than we anticipated, as well...
    GO STEELERS.

Hampton and Smith were cornerstones to stopping the run. Physically they were irreplaceable and now we are seeing how much they really meant.

Oh yeah. My bad. forgot about Smith.
Unforgiveable on my part. You are right. he was a HUGE difference maker.
I`m not being sarcastic. I can`t believe I forgot about him so soon. He was an unsung hero here for years, and I guess I just got so used to taking him for granted, that I forgot what a difference he made.
Seriously. I`m not being a smart ass. I should have included him in my response.
No excuses, but after he has only been gone one full year, I forgot how much we missed him while he was injured the last couple of years he was still with us.
Irreplaceable. Well, maybe not totally irreplaceable, but players like him, are truly "one in a million".
    GO STEELERS.
