I think Butler will want to keep a 3-4 if he is DL's successor. But, that's one way Tomlin could put his stamp on the team.

I thought that since Tomlin was hired, I just never figured DL would still be here, Tomlin probably didn't either :lolol:

Butler may want to but MT won't have the same hands off approach as he has with DL, if he wants to switch, he will.

I've also always thought that Tomlin wants to go to a 4-3. That was one of the reasons I was a little skeptical when they hired him. I just like a 3-4. But I think that's why so many of our defensive players have looked like busts because they are round pegs in square holes. I absolutely believe that Tomlin will switch to a 4-3. I also think that IF that is what is holding back this team then DL HAS to go because he is now more of a liability than an asset. NO ONE PERIOD should be kept if they are a detriment to the team. I would kill to get Dan Quinn from Seattle. I was screaming at the tv during the game "PLEASE GET US SOME DB'S! I WILL PERSONALLY DONATE TO HELP COVER THEIR SALARIES! JUST GET RID OF THESE BUMS THAT WE HAVE!" LOL (but crying inside)

I'm partial to the 4-3 because the Steel Curtain was a 4-3, so I have nothing but fond memories of it and would love to switch back. We have the personnel for it, I think they will make the switch.

I am hoping they get rid of Tomlin,Haley,LeBeau, and Colbert. Bring in someone from the outside and let him bring the guys he wants with him. Preferably someone that's up to date with his schemes, but I would take Cowher and don't laugh but maybe even Brian Billick.

I've got apprehension with butler as the DL successor. Isn't he currently one of the staff members leading this defense? I can't really look at our LB's and say "wow they are playing so much better than db's or line" our backers are sucking just as much as every other part of our defense..... And butler is part of that problem. Not really sure at this point that he should be the heir to DL just because they promised him.

Valid point. But we'll probably end up with Butler as the DC and Wilson as the OC. *yawn*

I'm undecided about Butler, but having Wilson as the OC should help speed up the "process". :lolol:

we are all assuming that id Haley and DL are gone that they are gonna hire from within. im not completely sold that Tomlin wont be on that same bus out of town. especially if this season gets completely out of hand. if Tomlin goes than the whole thing gets blown up.

I hope they don't go to a 4-3. It's just so much more you can do with a 3-4 when use properly.

All we need is a run stopper. If Jarvis Jones turns out to be anything like he was in college we will be fine. And if Vince Williams turns out to be good we would be set at ILB. We can move McClendon to defensive end and have Heyward on the other side.

Yawn? You have the audacity to yawn with TH as our OC? I've been in a freaking coma watching his offense :lolol:

I almost agree with this except that I pray that Wilson isn't the new OC should the Rooney's actually possess the stones to get rid of Haley. There has to be some much better names out there for the OC job in place of Wilson!

We need to just get Josh McDaniels from NE. OR maybe since Ben likes to throw it every down and have guys running 81 yard routes on every play why not just go get Mike Martz?

if we have to take a coordinator just to follow what ben wants , ask him to find one by himself .

Hire Pat Kirwan as the GM and Steve Maricucci as the new Offensive Coordinator.

Just because the Steel Curtain was a 4-3 doesn't mean it would be the right decision... there is no right or wrong defense, and they seem to be blending together as time goes on anyways...

I'm a little concerned about how hard it is to find a 3-4 DE and 3-4 NT though...

I think Butler would have a fresh take on the 3-4 if he became DC. I think Lebeau is a little gun shy about being aggressive with blitzes. We don't even blitz enough IMO. And when we do, when was the last time that cross ILB blitz even worked? In the 90's Lebau would blitz all the time from all positions, DT's or DE's would do crazy things like drop into coverage or do wild stunting moves.

I wonder if some of that ended when Troy came a long and we started using him everywhere?

You can't say we are better suited for a 4-3 right now though... it would take a lot more than reshuffling the front 7 (even then we would need some extra help there).

We would need new corners, who are scouted to be more man-to-man coverage skilled.

Excellent idea, freak! Why don't they just let Ben do the hiring? If he's not on board, and he hasn't been with Haley, he's going to pull that passive-aggressive, junior high school girl crap that he pulled last year anyway!

Would have been better then trying to stuff some ahole guy down his throat with character issues of his own, that was a brilliant plan! I'm sure the Rooneys are just loving that decision now, especially with the negative press TH has been bringing lately.
