It looks as if Miami's players were picking on their right tackle to the point he quit, he just up and left slamming a food tray on the floor. He may be had for a good price and he is head and shoulders better than Gilbert!!!!!

He had an "emotional breakdown". I bet it was from hanging around Mike Wallace.

The Dolphins O-line is worse than the Steelers Tannehill gets sacked more than Big Ben, so not interested in him.

I don't know. Think you maybe a little harsh with the mental problem comment. He's got a Stanford degree and playing with a bunch of diva's it a glitz and glam city with a handful of narcissistic owners. Maybe he just said F it and decided to go give his scholarship bought education a try for a year or two. I'm sure he will be back on another team though. O-line talent seems to be always thin on many organizations.

Did you read the article I linked to? It said he's with "his family receiving treatment" and that "Martin is receiving professional assistance for emotional issues."

I didn't weigh in here intially, because I didn't know all of the details. But it very well sounds like Martin needs a change of scenery. If he's released, we should absolutely make a claim (and we'd be high on the list).

    First, the situation in Miami...

It sounds like Martin is by all accounts, not your typical jock (went to Stanford and is the son of two Harvard law grads), and just didn't fit in. The issues apparently go well beyond typical rookie hazing and it's been happening for a year and a half now. Martin didn't just go off due to some casual "ribbing" as that article suggests. The incident that finally set him off was when he went to sat down at a lunch table with the rest of the OL, they all got up and moved. Say what you want about mental issues, but that's not cool. Are they a bunch of HS girls? Apparently they've all nicknamed him "big weirdo."

I've personally been in situations where some "ribbing" just keeps happening to the point that it's pretty clear it's not just in good fun. My friends and I make fun of each other a lot, but it's because it's because we knew each other first, and know that we're all cool. Martin hasn't made that bond yet, and was sick of it. Call him a wreck for seeking emotional help, but it sounds to me like an intelligent person trying to solve a problem.

    Second, how he could help...

Read the scouting reports on Martin out of college. Martin was a 3 year starter at LT for a very successful Standford team. He's smart, good in space, a fantastic run blocker, has a mean streak, has good technique, and the one downside was he struggled with speed rushers. He's athletic, and has experience in the type of scheme that we want to run on our OL. So, maybe he's not an NFL left tackle (then again, maybe he is. You think the issues with teammates may not have affected his play on the field?), but he could be a pro bowl right tackle with those skills if he's developed right (He JUST turned 24). His contract also wouldn't be that terrible considering he was taken in the 2nd round.

    Third, why Pittsburgh makes sense...

If ever there seemed to be a need for some new scenery, in a strong locker room, this is it. So why Pittsburgh? After looking into him, it looks like he was born in Pittsburgh, but grew up in California. I'd be interested to find out if he has any sort of connections to the city still. However, even if he doesn't... Read up on the Stanford team he was on and it talked about how often they would pull David DeCastro from the right side and the two of them were a force to run behind. Martin a DD anchored the same OL for I believe every game for 3 seasons. Think the two of them know each other pretty well?

Our locker room. One thing that I've noticed about Ben through the years is no matter how bad they are, he sicks up for his offensive line. Max Starks and Willie Colon were obviously Ben's best buddies on the team. Ben could welcome Martin to the team, and our strong locker room (which I still believe it is). Look at Miami. They signed a turd like Mike Wallace which tells you how they feel about locker room chemistry. I don't know a lot about Miami's players, but I do know their guard Incognito has a reputation for one of the biggest a-holes in the league.
