Ben looks slow and old, all those hits have taken their toll. I don't see him as a modern day QB able to play into his late 30's. I say thank you for the two rings and time to move on. This has a potential to be a good QB draft....time to shock the world and move on...

I guess taking away the kids toys in the locker room didn't pan out for coach T:shrug:

The poor line is not new. Let's just be honest...the Rooney's forced out a successful OC after yet another post season appearance. Show me, honestly show me, why Todd Haley is a great offensive mind, and where these things being attributed to 'Todd Haley's vision' for this offense are coming from. They're more hopes than anything.

I'm not saying he is. But I was in the "fire Arians" camp, thinking anything he was the problem. Well, halfway through last season, seeing Haley struggle with this offense, we can only conclude that it's not the coordinators.

This oline needs to be fixed. We can not help injuries but that was our downfall from the start.

When someone thought Adams and Gilbert were legit offensive tackles in this league that was when everything went down hill.

I was half-heartedly in that camp. As an armchair OC, I was often critical of him. However, I don't follow the logic. He was successful here. The team saw multiple post seasons and SB's while he held the playbook.

I think the mindset was that the offense was underachieving. And they probably were. I would stop short of saying that the offense was the reason the Steelers won SB XLIII.

    EXACTLY.

And its why Im not screaming about Haley either. This team has been snake-bitten as far as injuries on the Oline for the past few seasons.

And the offense will probably NEVER be the reason the Steelers win a SB. More often than not, defense still wins championships even though its an offensive league.

The hope is that the defense can keep the opposition scores low and game close enough for the offense to be able to squeak out a win. The coaches know that Ben isn't the type of QB that's going to produce a lot of points on a consistent basis.

NEVER! LOL! I'm a man of principle. But out of curiosity did you really want him gone? I did and I'm still glad the Rooney's sent him packing but I wonder if they'll do the same with Haley since word has it that he was their hire? Maybe Haley will "retire" too.

I actually seen a stat a couple of years ago that called this in to serious question and I've always subscribed to this philosophy as well. I would say in recent years that defense HAS won some championships. I think the two giants super bowls are evidence to back up that assertion. I think the Packers might counter that assertion as far as their d gave up a lot of yards but they were great in getting turnovers and even scored in the Super Bowl on a pick. So I guess it depends on what a "good" or "great" defense really is. Bend but don't break can work as long as you can get some turnovers. We've just not been able to do that consistently this year.

Well said, I am so tired of watching an unprepared team play. Plus the execution level of play is HORRIBLE. It seems like they have not gone over and over and over plays in practice.
I would like to attend a practice to see just what the hell goes on. Everybody will say, well their professionals they should be motivated each and every week.
Tomlin does not have a pulse of the team, why do we lose to INFERIOR TEAMS. WE ARE NOT seeing players coached up or motivated. Something has to change.

I stink we would of won that game if we didn't run out of time. Too bad we waited to the fourth quarter to start playing football.

But that's what happens 99% of the time with this team. Why arent they prepared and ready to go with the opening kickoff? I can barely stand to listen to Colin Cowherd but even he is now saying that Tomlin flies under the radar because of the Super Bowl win but there are issues with the Steelers coaches.

Fantastic post. I've been asking the same questions for a few years now. I'm from the old school where you play how you practice, nothing is gonna change my mind about that. Very rarely is playcalling to blame in a loss it's just a convenience for many and easy to blame the coordinators when things go wrong. It just rolls off the tongue. Our execution is poor at best. These problems on the O have spanned a few OCs. People want to say well we made the playoffs and SBs with so and so. The answer to that is we once had a dominating defense but that's a whole nother can of worms. This is a copycat league we need to look at the successful offenses in the league and try to emulate them some what. We can't execute at a 40% rate and expect to win football games. I don't care who they bring in or keep at OC but this team needs to find a identity and get on the same page.

I'm not exactly sure who is the biggest culprit in this but I do know somehow someway the ball needs to come out of Bens hands and guys need to make it stick in theirs. These guys are supposed to be pro's so I'm not buying the whole Ben and Haley thing. Grow up go out on the field and start to execute like you're paid to do. Football will always be about running, throwing catching, blocking, tackling and last but not least kicking. The bottom line is coaches coach and players play and the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. Put your big boy pants on and go win some football games. Coaches and players!!

MIKE TOMLIN! Why is it that when the Steelers won the Super Bowl a few years ago that Tomlin was being made out to be some kind of coaching savante but now that his team is in the crapper why do those same people that were willing to give Tomlin most of the credit for our Super Bowl success not even be willing to consider the possibility that it may just be a deficient Head Coach that is the Steelers biggest problem right now? The proof is in the pudding. It's much more than just an anomaly that the hallmark of Tomlin's coaching tenure seems to be flat, uninspired and unprepared play from his football team. He's the HEAD COACH. He's responsible.

I can't argue with you. You may be right. I just hope you're not. I don't know who we would turn to next. I hope our issues can be fixed in house. I don't want to start from scratch.

Because you guys act like he suddenly forgot how to coach. The guys overall body of work has been great, how about affording him the same luxury that Cowher was given when his teams sucked. I don't want to hear QB excuses, his teams sucked and he righted the ship. Like it or not, Tomlin will get that chance too.

I bet when you watch Monday Night Football you are gonna see a Seahawks team that's gonna come out swinging from the get go. I've watched them a lot this year because it's the closest I can get to Steeler Football and they come out swinging. They aren't a great road team but I bet they play well enough to get it done tonight and then some. You know why? Because the Rams are a vastly inferior team to them but that doesn't stop them from preparing to kill their opponent. I wish we had that kind of killer instinct.

Oh, I don't doubt that Tomlin will get that chance. This is Pittsburgh after all and the Rooneys own the team. And I realize that that's what makes the Steelers franchise unique in the sporting world today and I appreciate that. It doesn't change the fact, however, that we've got some coaching problems and the head coach can't seem to get his team ready to play competitive football. He's got a franchise quarterback and some pretty good talent and he doesn't seem to know what to do with it. I'm not calling for Tomlin to be fired because I know that's not going to happen. He'd have to put about five 4-12 seasons together before the Rooneys even started thinking about it.
