Do you have any constructive suggestions to improve the Steelers?

    I have two "off-season" suggestions:
    1. schedule some preseason intersquad practices with at other teams (long before the preseason rolls around).
    2. at the end of the regular season, make all players go thru an end-of season phsyical. Any Players with prior injuries that required surgery at any point, may be required to take new post-season MRI's.

:frustrated::frustrated::frustrated: It personally pisses me off to no end that we seem to wait until training camp time rolls around to discover that "clean-up surgerys" are required for players. Let's get them done and them out of the damn way during the off-season.

It is my understanding and I could have this wrong that when you have to choice to heal naturally and treat an injury that it is preferable to having surgery which could weaken the area in question and leave it more susceptible to continued nagging injury. That is why they take the wait and see approach until the last moment. I could be wrong here though.

I hear you Thorn, but other than the cost, what is the disadvantage of having post-season MRI's done? If a player isn't healing 100% it gives you time to make better personnel decisions in the Draft and during the off-season doesn't it?

Besides, any clean-up surgery can still wait till the April or May timeframe vs the June or July timeframe.

Honestly, if you were a player and we given the options: 1) have surgery in your offseason when you typically spend time with your family or 2) have it during OTA/pre-season. Which would you choose?

As to your first suggestion, I don't think that's allowed per the current CBA. There are rules as to when team activities can take place.

I'd likely have the surgery when my employeer that was paying me a couple million per year wanted me to have it. ;)

Maybe you misunderstood the 1st one, I'm refering to intersquad pactices with other teams like the Pats, Bucs, and some other teams already do now.

How about the rest of yinz, no suggestions you'd like to share ??

So our O-line, D-Line, and other players could practice against someone different to see how they would "stack-up" and so the coaches as well as the players could identify potential areas of improvement.

Besides, whose to say the Bucs wouldn't have been worse without their practices with the Pats? LOL :lolol:

I asked why Ben waited to have his knee cleaned up instead of having it done as soon as last season was over and the response was that it is better to heal (or try to anyway) without surgery so if this was an option for the team to dictate it (if they don't already) I guess it would depend on the injury.

As for the practices with other teams, how much does that really help? They aren't hitting at full speed, they aren't practicing all of the plays in the play books and there is always a chance of injury in case someone does go a little too hard. Might as well practice against the practice squad.

Depending on the injury, it's always best to take wait and see if a player's body can heal before having surgery. Several injuries can heal with time. Surgery should be used as a last resort because of the risks involved.

I would vote that we don't play scrimmages against other teams. Some players have different agendas when playing against other teams. Brady almost got injured in a scrimmage. Not like that can't happen with our own players but we don't typically try to injured our own players.

Plus our players know how to gauge intensity and you don't get those cheap shots.

I just wish we viewed preseason games more important. During that time all the players were saying we'll do this and that when the games count. Look how that turned out. Our performance during the preseason does count, not the win and lost record.

The starters need to perform better in those preseason games for us to have a chance when the regular season starts.

I would like to see a new strength and conditioning coach and competent additions to our scouting department.

Roster changes depending on the season record. If this team finishes with 4-6 wins then some high priced veterans need to go or take a pay cut along with some inferior talent cuts.

If Ben and Haley continue to combine what each-other likes then the offensive coordinator will be ok. I also think that Lebeau is doing ok with what he has.

There is a lot of football left this season to see what the team has.

Stop taking advice from the message board!

    Also, bring back block-style numbers.

So then how come the 2008 Detroit Lions went 4-0 in preseason and then proceeded to go 0-16 in the regular season? Preseason doesn't mean ****. Coaches use it differently then how fans like to look at it, it's mostly an evaluation period for the rookies, game 3 is the starters tune up game.

Our problems stemmed from Pouncey getting hurt the first game, horrendous line play and not having a RB.
