The comp pick formula is like the QB rating formula.......confusing and unknown in totality.

I think we still will, velasco may hurt us due to him being a starter and maybe even Gay since he gets defensive snaps. Lewis and Wallace signed huge contracts and are starters which weighs heavily on our side. If either one makes the pro-bowl it'll help us as well. We'll get nothing for starks, casey and allen & Legs. Wilson now on PS and Brown-injured- shouldn't hurt us. Spaeth being on the IR to return shouldn't hurt us either.

    I really really hope we get a 3rd and 5th but our luck we'll get a 6th & 7th.

How is mendy doing. I'd love to see him make the probowl this year.

First we need to know who we lost and who we got. I'm not particularly sharp on this, so help would be welcome:

    Lost FA:
Wallace, Mendy, Colon, Starks, Harrison, K Lewis, Legursky

    Signed FA:
    Gay, Velasco, Spaeth, Stephens-Howlings

Players who were cut do not count in the formula.

Yes they should still get some comp picks. They are expecting at least 1 3rd rounder...after that who knows.

And as TTF said no cut players (Colon, Harrison, etc) count, and I don't think players they traded for count as they are no FA's. Also I remember hearing somewhere before that players picked up like during the season don't count against you either (or count as much).

As cajun mentioned is just depends on their contracts signed with other teams, and things like playing time, stats and so on. Right now you have guys like Wallace and Lewis (the 2 biggest contracts Steeler FA's signed) starting for their teams and doing pretty good....Mundy is starting for the NYG, Legursky has been getting some starting time due to injuries in Buffalo, Mendy is the starter in AZ and so on. Some of the guys who are just backups or get little playing time/etc...a couple of them could combine and generate a 6th-7th rounder even, ya never know. We'll never know until they are announced unfortunately.

Either way I still see them getting a few...with I think at least 1 3rd rounder like the team expects, anything else in the mid rounds would just be bonuses.

I wondered because we have picked up a lot of guys this year.

legursky, I thought was out for the season for buffalo?

I forgot about LSH. mendy was starting in zona I thought too. I wondered how injuries played into it, or if we get screwed for picking up guys like brown and spaeth that never made the field.

GP, I didn't know guys during the season didn't matter as much. interesting. I guess my concern was if we lose anything, we would have gained for Wallace and lewis , since we acquired so many others.
mundy? I for the life of me couldn't remember his name earlier. LOL.:cool:

Nope Legursky was their starting LG in the game the other day...as their starter was out.

And now as far as in season pickups/etc...I could be wrong...but I remember reading an article earlier this year...and it said something about that...it could be wrong for all I know...as I don't think the exact details of the whole comp pick system have ever been made officially public and such...so who knows.

Even if they do count as something...they really haven't pickup anyone big name or whatever...they brought back SS who they cut...and this new TE they just signed...Allen was brought back (after signing/playing for Dal)...and of course Valesco has been the biggest probably. But none of them have signed big deals or are playing much overall (besides Velasco and Mesko), compared to the guys they've lost. But who knows...I still foresee at least one higher pick and a couple mid/lower ones.

I do know re-signing our own doesn't count against us. I forgot about mesko. whimper, antwon blake. we shall see I guess. seems like we have been through a lot of them without much reward.

Quality is mroe important than quantity. It has to do with the amount the guy signed for, as well as snaps, and quality of play. I guess you could say all-around, the value of the player gained versus lost.

I'd say Wallace gets us a 3rd rounder, 4th at the worst. He signed a monster contract, will play a huge amount of snaps, and even if he's not a pro bowler he should have a good season.

Lewis I would guess is probably a 5th. Although I'll admit I don't know how he's looked this season with the Saints. He does have 5 pass defenses and 2 interceptions, which is nice.

Velasco is the only guy I could see working against us as far as comp picks, but he's making the vet minimum, so that helps. I'm not sure if signings during the season count either. He'll probably cancel out Mendenhall (guy that signs for cheap, played quite a bit, at an okay level).

gay would probably cancel out lewis as far as play time. velcasco would probably cancel out mendy. add LHS, allen, jones, mesko, whimper, spaeth, dwyer (was cut), gradkowski, Wallace, blake, Wilson, palmer, new TE, fangupo?, plax, sly and DJ were cut also and brown. wouldn't all these guys cancel out Wallace, legs, and mundy? there is some money difference with Wallace but do all these guys add up? we have made a lot of moves this year in free agency.I hope it doesn't screw us over.

Mendenhall isn't making any friends with the media or fans here in phoenix, he had two fumble turnovers two weeks ago in the Tampa game, and the cards 6th round pick Ellington is their best rusher, mendy wont be the starter for much longer with the poor performances he has had this year:

Rashard Mendenhall rushed for 40 yards on ten carries in Week 6 versus San Francisco.
Mendenhall reeled in his lone target for a two-yard pickup in the passing game. It was a pretty pedestrian effort, while rookie Andre Ellington piled up 92 yards and a score on 12 touches compared to the 42 yards Mendenhall tallied on 11 touches. The two continue to split the load evenly. We don't envision that changing even though it's clear Ellington is the superior talent. Mendenhall is nothing more than a low-end flex option on a weekly basis. Oct 13 - 8:51 PM

I am not sure about how this all works, but if the guy was cut prior to us picking him up, I would think it wouldnt matter, whereas if we got the guy as an UFA then it matters????? Did we simply sign Mesko or was he cut prior to us signing him? Same with Velasco????

The way I understand it is guys like Gay and Spaeth would not have counted because they were cut vice being UFAs. Neither would Velasco or Mesko, as bother were cut.
