Yeah, where did you get that number from? PFF's numbers are different.

What are PFFs #s? I dont have a subscription. The link I have above says 'time to throw' and is defined as from when the ball is snapped to when the QB throws or can no longer throw(sacked). This number can be misleading as a guy who is pressured in 2 seconds, but runs around like a chicken with his head cut off for 5 seconds is going to show a higher average. And a guy with a good pocket and clear vision could show a lower time.

My point was that when he has a clean pocket, he's getting rid of it quickly but when the pocket collapses immediately, you're not going to be very successful and it's going to cause his release time to go up since he is running for his life.

Vince Young looked like a Hall of Famer his first year. Turns out, not so much. I will give PWP and Robvos credit though. They are the only two that have attempted to answer the question I posed about which current college qb they would rather have.

I'll answer this. It's easy, definitely Bridgewater and Hundley, maybe Murray, Boyd, Maziel, McCarron. Its not that they are better than Ben right now. Its that its an attempt to get better by putting money into other area's that's needed and retooling the team. Ben wasn't a world beater in his first 2 years, he was a game manager. There has been plenty of rookies who have had better rookie years than Ben, but we did better as a team because our team was better overall.

If we keep Ben we can't fix other areas enough to be a contender, we don't have the money or the picks. Its always better to be ahead of the curve than behind it and realize we need a QB when Ben is complete toast and has no value left and we have wasted 3-4 years holding on to the past. You have to be smart about it. This is a team business decision and isn't about who is the best QB, its about how can we have the best team. With what we have right now, Ben is not an elite QB and you can't change what we have now while eating Ben's big salary.

Now no one in favor of keeping Ben has answered my question. So here it is again. The are 3 real options here...(1) Let him play out the final 2 years of his contract (12.1 mill and 11.6 mill base salaries with cap hits over 18 mill each year) and pay him a ton of money thus keeping us cap strapped so we cant improve the talent we have now. (2) Extend him and get some cap relief but commit more to him when its very possible his best years are behind him. (3) Trade him and get what you can for him. Which would you pick?

BTW... GO BUCS!!! Its been awhile since playoff baseball was in the Burgh!

I would rather have aj McCarron on the roster for a few years than laundry. aarron murray would be a great addition but the only way we can take him is if he plays behind ben one year and takes over. he will be nfl ready very very soon

did the rest of the team get better since then? you can make a pretty good arguement that they have gotten much worse.

Bull S**t. As long as Ben keeps giving the ball away, we're not winning. He stops and we will win. Anyone who can't see that is 59 Minutes into this game and hasn't seen the ball since the kickoff

Sorry, I missed your question earlier. You're right, like with most stats, they don't tell the whole story. Here's a copy paste of their data so far this season:

I didn't answer it because it's a stupid question. The college season has just begun, meaning most guys who are going to declare for the NFL haven't even had their best year yet. Did anyone know who Doug Martin was 9 months before he was drafted? No, very few people did, and those who did know who he was wouldn't think of him as a 1st round talent. It's a pointless question that is impossible to answer until the college season is complete

I would pick number 1 and I wouldn't even hesitate honestly. I just think Ben gives us the best chance to win. But I'm not doubting your fandom or anything like that. I just see it differently. I would get rid of Haley LOOONG before I would get rid of Ben. As a matter of fact, Ben is the absolute last person on this whole TEAM I would get rid of. That's just me though. (and probably bobby) LOL.

But this thread is not stupid? LOL. So you are saying that you would just throw at the wall in the dark and see what sticks? I mean aren't there some people here saying they would absolutely let Ben go for a draft pick next year and not even know who it is??? If they're going by your reasoning that is what they're saying for sure. Well not everyone is saying that. A few have said who they would pick. Are they stupid? I'm not trying to be a jerk and I consider your opinion valuable in almost all discussions but I just think the haterism on Ben is pretty dang ridiculous. To take a shot in the dark on a qb that you don't even know will be there is pretty crazy and reckless I think.

Also let's think about this. IF a team were willing to trade such valuable draft spots as that for Ben doesn't that make your argument about how he is "done" sorta null and void? If he's "done" why would teams make the trade. I know that you know this thread is totally hypothetical but what I'm saying is by your premise you are saying that teams would make the jump at that. So what team would do that if he were truly done? The answer is no one. So IF they would make that trade it means he's still really awesome.

There's always players in the draft that can step in and make a difference, and almost every year, there's at least a few QB's who can step in and make a difference, but it doesn't mean anyone has the ability to pick them out 9 months before the draft. Look at Barkley 2 years ago, the guy was considered a 1st round talent by many, but look how far he fell. You can't predict specific players until they actually declare, but one thing you can predict is that there will be talented players who can step in and make a difference

Go back and read my posts, I've been saying all along that we wouldn't be able to get a 1st round pick for Ben, especially considering his contract.

I don't think there's any qb in this league that could play behind this line and make a difference.

Yeah I've been late to this thread because Bobby has basically been speaking for me. I share his sentiments that Ben gives us the best chance to win and that trading him would be a bad idea.

So by picking #1, you think this team could win a super bowl in the next 2 years without a major reconstruction? Because if not, why keep Ben? Why not get something for him while he has value and begin the process of fixing the other areas of need?

The way I see it is if we trade Ben we do get a 1st rd pick for him (an early one at that). There are plenty of teams very desperate for a QB with enough cap space. Don't be surprised if his old buddy in ARI doesn't try to make something happen if he gets a smell that Ben's on the market.

Ben's play style doesn't fit with what we have now. He doesn't want to get rid of the ball quick enough and our line sucks. He's older and not as mobile as he use to be so he can't escape as good. He is starting to break down from all the hits over the years. He has never been great with taking care of the ball and combined that with what we have on offense and he turns into a turnover machine. I know its hard to let go of a QB that won us 2 SB's, but its just not working out and can't get better due to his contract.

At the rate we are going we will probably end up with a very high draft pick, maybe top 2. If we decide Bridgewater is the guy then and we have a shot at getting him we take him. If not we trade back and acquire more picks. The key is to get a top 2 pick because the value will be so high, similar to when the Rams traded up for RG3. We can maybe acquire a player or two in that trade also. We need to upgrade in a few areas. We still have a lot of good players and with a coaching change to someone who is much more disciplined, I can see it getting shaken up enough to get the most of some of the vets left for another few years.

Rumors of Ben's demise are greatly exaggerated. He has a lot more winning football in him.
Ben is a once in a lifetime QB that keeps us in every game win lose. Roethlisberger and seconds is arguably the most dangerous QB in the league. Opposing Ds know it, coaches know it, players league wide know it.

Shouldn't be surprised this is the same group of posters that wanted BA out of here, were ecstatic at the Haley hire, and now want Haley out. They've asked for Tomlin's head, the GM, and every player we have on this team to be gone and one time or another. Same names come up all the time.

All this talk about Ben and how long he holds the ball. I could care less if he holds it for an eternity, in fact, the longer he holds it the better. Hold the Ball Ben and when the D cheats nail em! Get back to what got you there.

    They're gonna turn it around.
