I watch A LOT of football, pro and college, and I think I know my x's and o's and players pretty well but I aint gonna lie; I know squat about the salary cap. So, knowing that some of the board members on here follow that stuff; how are we looking for 2014?

It is...not so good. There will be pruning, extending, and restructuring.

Quick answer....Our cap is screwed next year!!

    Can yinz say..."Fire sale?"

Alot of players who are STEELERS this year will not be here next year.

I agree with Myron that there will be a few Steelers this year that will not be on the roster next year. If I read the links on our 2014 Cap situation below are players that stand out

Not having the following players on the team and savings ( I am not saying we shouldn't have these players on the team, just eye opening to me.)

Troy would save us 8.25 mil of his 10 mil salary
Ike Taylor would save us 7 mil of his 10 mil salary
Heath would save us 6 mil of his 9 mil salary (this may be incorrect as I think he was restructured)
Pouncey would save 3.2 mil of his 4.6 mil salary
McClendon would save 1.8mil of his 2.9 mil salary
Ramon Foster would save 1.45 mil of his 2 mil salary
Heyward would save 1.2 mil of his 2 mil salary

Players we cannot have an impact on from the Cap situation

Timmons would be 1.3 million of dead money added to 2014
Woodley would be 580K of dead money added to 2014
Decastro would be 1 mil of dead money added to 2014

Some of the players will be gone as free agents Brett Kiesel, Ryan Clark, and they will release some veterans maybe Foote also Hood is a free agent not sure how this affects the salary cap though.

there will be always the woodley problem , i know we restructured him and it will cost to cut/trade him , but if he keep his poor performances something has to be done , we could hit his dead money for one year and then we can have room in the next season while we could play a cheap draft pick like baxter

Thanks all, I would hate to see it but unless they are willing to take less money I could honestly see troy and ike being gone next year along with clark who I think already has one foot out the door. The basis for my question was just wondering if were going to have any money to chase a decent free agent this coming off season. Don't get me wrong, I am not in favor of overpaying some high priced free agent but was just wondering, based on the abysmal season we are having and the age of a lot of our players if we would be in a position to be more active than normal because I believe we more holes than can be filled through one draft.

From one of the articles it appears we may be almost 20 million over the Cap for 2014, not a good situation. This may be the year of tough decisions as we cannot continue to restructure and move moneys out to future years.

Its clearly not helping by restructuring and what not as we look at our record this year. We've had a good run of never having to rebuild, but that time I think may have come to an end. Man, it'd be weird to see some of these players in a different uniform.

Poor performance? He's been one of the few bright spots on defense. Three of our four sacks this season(on pace for 12) forced a fumble this week and has been in the quarterbacks face often. Find someone else to pick on.

But he holds on to the ball too long. Oh wait, he whiffed on that tackle of AP. I'd trade him for two first immediately.
