If the misery continues and the Steelers fail to make the playoffs, is that what pushes LeBeau to retire?

    I say it's very likely - I'm going with an 80% chance.

I'm thinking the Rooney's might make him "retire" BA style.

Hmm...tough call. I'll go with a 50% chance. If we just keep going winless and teams start really disrespecting our defense, then the chances go up for me.

I thought before the season started that this would be his last year, so I'm sticking with that. However, I think the opposite is true about our record, I think a poor record would drive him to stay on for another season, can't see him wanting to retire with that bad taste in his mouth.

Did you listen to the post game? Dude they make so many dang excuses for this staff it's pathetic. They keep saying the reason we can't get turnovers is because we are "always" playing from behind. Well are we playing from behind when it's 0-0??? Why not come out firing? You SERIOUSLY couldn't put enough of a montage together for Renegade at Heinz! You would have to show stock footage of Harrison and the Steel Curtain or something. We're a pathetic defense.

I think the biggest thing is....if DL goes, does Butler take over? Many suspect that the Rooney's have him waiting in the wings to take over, but wouldn't it just be more of the same? I mean, his unit is one of our biggest defensive liabilities atm...

If they are going to push DL out, then gut the entire staff imo. If they don't want to do that, keep DL on as long as he is willing, as he gives them the best chance to turn the defense around.

I think that "bad taste" is actually just all the ensure he has to drink. Dude is like 8900 years old. He should just go and enjoy his life and relive the glory days in his head every day.

I want to have fond memories of DL. I don't want him to become the crazy uncle that comes for a visit and then decides he wants to live in your attic like Paterno and Bowden.

I was gonna say this too. I really don't think I would give it to Butler. I would try to get Seattle's DC. THEY are what WE used to be!

Yeah I know the feeling. My uncle has been in our attic for years now. I really should go check on him.

LOL, good analogy. I tend to think more highly of our defense though, todays game not withstanding.

Butler will be the next DC unless he leaves before DL does. Bank on it.

The problem is that some people just aren't programmed to relax, not permanently anyway.

The father of a good friend of mine retired at 82 years old and went back to work at 84 because that was how he enjoyed his life. He died on the job at 87 years old.

Hopefully he will game plan to attack a team's offensive weakness instead of trying to force them to adapt to the play of your defense. If they don't start attacking some of these QB's it will make for a long season. I mean Cassel in no way is Peyton Manning but even he can look at what the defense shows and say yep I have got an easy completion with that soft coverage.

Yeah I really wouldn't be surprised if DL does decide to retire if he wound up dying sooner rather than later. They actually claim that staying active is something that can help you live longer.

No idea but I hope he would take the good parts of DL's schemes and infuse some fresh ideas. I mean lets not get silly here guys, it's not like DL sucks.

Money is the reason I would say he would come here. We should just throw some mad money at him. Have you seen those guys play? Dude they are flying to the ball and they will knock the crap out of anything that moves.

Yeah, my uncle (well, great uncle) literally died on the job at 85. He was a furniture maker and refused to retire. Never took sick time or anything. Some people are just wired differently like you said.

No I'm definitely not saying he sucks but just that his system has probably ran its course. If we're not gonna be SB contenders any time soon I really don't see why he would want to stick around anymore.

Yeah, they push the envelope for sure.

Picture this- Colbert and Khan walk into a conference room where Quinn (SEA's DC) is sitting. They just start humming the theme song from the original Price Is Right while tossing hundred dollar bills around. :lolol:

It also probably wouldn't hurt to have a scantily clad model presenting Troy and Jarvis either. LOL.

I think it's time. I've been a DL supporter for a long time and hated it when he left to coach the Bengals. I was so glad when he came back. But whatever the reason, his scheme does not work without pressure. And we can't generate pressure because QBs have found out the quick pass to the WRs works and moves them down the field. It's been happening for a while now.

Butler would get the first crack at changing this around. It might be some of DL scheme but I hope he brings some new ideas and bring back Blitzburgh. Another reason is the loyatly factor. This guy has be hanging around for a few years waiting for his opportunity and turned down another coaching job. What would it say to other coaches if we don't hire him?
