Ben's 2014 cap hit is $19,428,330 so they have to try and extend him prior to the 2014 season or risk losing their own free agents and having to cut other highly paid players. It doesn't make any sense to restructure him in 2014 and make his cap hit even more in for 2015. They've literally kicked the proverbial can down the road as as far possible.

by then the cap will go up and some higher priced vets will be off the books as well as the dead money from JH. then after next year the dead money from colon. we still will have a 34 year old qb and paying a butt load of money to him.

I don't know it's a tough call as to whether we just let him play out the 2015 season and move on. I guess a lot depends on if ben wants to play after that. a lot depends on the play of jones by then.

there are a lot of unknowns right now to jump and do this. it's caused some problems with throwing money at other guys we found are not still what they once were and ask for pay cuts or are then paying too much for what we think they are worth at that stage. I guess we can summon the magic 8 ball, if TTF will allow it.:lolol::cool:

i love Ben and he saved this team after we had to endure 25 years of mediocre quarterbacks and super bowl droughts, but hes not getting any younger and unless this oline can get it together hes not the right qb for this team right now.

i would rather see them break in a young qb that can run a little and hopefully become a solid qb and grow with what is a fairly young team.

I will bet money that Miami will try to offer him a huge contract when his is up unless we extend him I think Tanna wanna throw the bomb will be a bust. or just a mediocre QB. Wallace will cry for Ben.

I think the bottom line in this whole thing will come down to money. With as cash strapped as they are I think there might even be the possibility he doesn't see the final year of his contract. So no, I don't see them resigning or extending him.

Between Tannehill and Wallace, little Mikey will end up being the bust in Miami.

This is an interesting question. I really think the play of the team this year and next year will decide the contract extension or at a minimum give the Steelers room to negotiate favorable terms on the money side. The new CBA and contract dollar limits could allow the Steelers to get a much better value in terms of money at the QB position if they pick high in either of the next two drafts. With that said it could be a gamble on the talent side. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds over the next 2 years.

Surely there's a comments section at the bottom of an ESPN article somewhere where you can vent about that news from over 3 years ago.

Oh the painful memories, please stop!!! LOL

This is a no brainer because there is nobody on the roster now to lead this team into the future at QB, and Ben's cap hit is going to be 13.5 million in 2014. They either have to restructure or extend.

Honestly this year in and year out restructuring of deals will eventually catch up to them, and the signs are there already. I know Omar Khan is one of the best in the business but even he must be pulling his hair out every off season trying to free up money and suggesting the tough calls that are needed to release players to get under the cap. It's a fine line that Pittsburgh walks of just staying afloat on the brink of going over and having to jettison a ton of players and basically start over.

This thought pattern is the most illogical thing to me. It amuses but confuses me.
    For Instance:
I allege that you're not a true fan. No matter how nonsensical and baseless my argument, assuming you are indeed a true homer, I've just alleged it.
Can we now say, "I've been waiting a long time to get this alleged fan of my favorite board?"

Alleging someone is this or that or did this or that is nothing. It took me all of a few seconds.
