I know we put a rotation on the field now but shouldn't carter be part of that mix? he had one giant last preseason game. he covers well as per butler. he's got some speed. they also say all our LB'ers can play all the spots, so why wasn't he considered for the inside? would he help against te coverage like against cinci, if he can cover well. i'm sure he could blitz the middle too.

I know we have 3 youngsters learning in garvin, Williams, and the slightly older Wilson, and nothing against them, but shouldn't we consider him there? any thoughts?

Cincy exposed the vulnerability to Dbl TEs especially if the other team has a top flight reicver. If carter can cover with speed they might need him against Bennet.

I thought Carter was destined to be cut until he finally showed up in the last preseason game. He's been a disappointment quite honestly. He had a tremendous opportunity to step it up last year when Harrison was hurt and failed miserably. He's just a player destined for mediocrity and unfortunately the Steelers have too many of those this season.

Yeah but did Worilds do any better? I thought Worilds biggest success came on Woodley's side. Big difference I always thougth between facing a LT all the time vs facing a TE that you can get a quick step on.

Worilds showed flashes as a LOLB last year and you make a good point about LT vs RT. Worilds didn't fare as well on the right side.

i'm saying would carter be helpful at ILB?

with his coverage skills and butler talking about how all our LB'ers learn all the positions.

I see that preseason game he had as an exception rather than the rule. He's been here several years and this is the first time he's shown up and played like we expected. The show he put on just saved him for this season but I expect he will be gone next year.

    I don't think so mac..
The coaches are all but begging Vince Williams to step up and take that position over IMO. He'll get a chance to show his improvement from game to game tonight. I'm expecting good results from him.

how about garvin? we heard a lot of buzz about him from camp, he made the team, he's got some speed too. he may be a little light right now but, as a cover ILB, against teams like the bungals that have two good TE's wouldn't this make some sense?

We've been run on in crucial situations in the first 2 games. That needs to change and I think DL will be focused on stopping the run tonight, 120 yds rushing per game isn't going to get it done. I really believe that DL and MT want Williams to be the every down buck LBer and he'll get an extended look the next few weeks.

i know you like williams, and so do i, but do you think they may be pushing to quickly to find that one guy before they try some other recipe's first? they all seem really talented, and i wish we would have known before foote was signed and used up cap money. wilson played well when used last week too. he had more tackles. i will say between the two they had a good amount of the tackles, yee haw. THAT is good news for us, just wondering what you think about the forcing one guy thing?

I liked him for his physicality, football IQ and vocal leadership on defense at FSU. I think if you give him 3-4 weeks of calling the plays and getting his fit in this scheme figured out, he's going to make plays for us. So I'm for selling out on the kid(s) in terms of snaps, let them learn our offense/defense schemes as fast as possible and maybe we catch lightning in a bottle after the bye..

Agreed. I don't think they are forcing anything, I think they feel he's just more talented then the other guys in contention. Same way I don't think they are forcing Jarvis, he's just much more talented then Worilds. Play your best, let them learn on the fly, they really need to abandon this turtle pace of getting rookies on the field and fortunately, looks like that's the direction they are going. I know it may cost us some points but there just aren't any solid vets standing in the way like in years past, get them out there.
