the vets are having meetings and getting all over the young guys saying they need to step up. this is interesting to me.

its kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.

im not sure what game the "vets" are watching, but i havent seen them doing much either.

i know im not alone here, but i want to see more of the young guys getting a chance.

i think this calling out of the young guys seems a bit desperate. look in the mirror. do your job.

just wondering what other fans thought of this. it bugged me.

The way i took it was the vets held a meeting amongst themselves to get stuff straightened out, and then brought the youg guys in to let them know how things were going to be done??? If it is as you described then I do belive we are in serious trouble!

From what I read, the vets ended what they were saying (I believe it was Ike) by saying that they had to show them how to do it, not just talk about it. I read that as an admission that the vets know they aren't playing the way they need to and they need to step up if they want the young guys to follow suit.

EDIT: Here's the article I read that in:

i hope the vets held themselves accountable as well.

i heard different stories from talking pool and ping pong away during "business hours" to bringing in the 6 Lombardi trophies.

i think the players have stunk so far this year, but i also think the coaching has been just as bad.

Rooney needs to have a talk with the coaching staff and they shouldn't be alot to play ping pong during duty hours either. But it's obivious they are not concentrating on the game plan.

So people on this board blast veterans for not being "locker room guys" and "leaders" and then we turn around and are trying to blast them when they do something to try to turn things around?? Seems like a can't win situation to me!

From what I gather the vets have all acknowledged the TEAM has played poorly and they need to right the ship in a hurry. I read somewhere that Ben told the team "we all need to be pointing thumbs not fingers". There is acknowledgement that all need to get better. The vets then took it upon themselves to make sure the young guys realize we don't handle losing too well around here and wanted to make it a point that everyone needed to do some soul searching and realize that the culture can't be one that accepts losing. So each individual needs to dig deeper and do whatever it takes and hopefully things turn around.

I don't think this is the veterans calling the young guys out. It's just the way it has to be and I like it.

saying and doing are two different things. I was in sales for about 6 months, my boss told me one day "It's time to stop trying and start doing."

This + infinity. I can't wait for when Tomlin tears into a player on the sideline and then see all the threads ripping him for doing so.

Me too! The veteran leadership or lack there of has been the problem so far, not the rookies. I hope this meeting is what our team needs to light a fire under their butts. I am all for the meetings and I hope they continue. We need to fix this right now with a win that includessome big plays.

Someone has to lead. Glad someone is trying. It can't hurt. Status quo changes nothing. Insanity right. Doing the same thing and expecting different results. Let's see what happens.

I read if you haven't been there 4yrs or more u can't play ping pong or pool during business hours. Really? There are so many problems with this:
    1. Who is playing these games during business hours?
    2. Why are 4year players ok to play games during business hours?
    3. Why not 3yr players?
    4. Which mental giant of motivational psychology came up with this?
    5. I thought the divided locker room was fixed and cancers removed.
    6. How is this going to bring the team together?
    7. Why are the inmates running the asylum?
    8. If a player with less than 4yrs takes a leadership role and steps up in such a way to
make a real difference in the way this season is going I would certainly challenge an
over paid under performing bloated vet to take the pool cue out of my hand.
    9. How about no more games for the whole team until the whole team plays like one?
    10. Vets should lead by example and that's not monopolizing the game tables.

And finally 11. In case the aging "Vets" haven't noticed our young talent is scrambling to get the he!! out of there...I suggest they welcome the young talent and take them under their wings and not alienate them any more than they already have.

If the fact that FOOTBALL players can't play PING PONG motivates them to want to play FOOTBALL better we are in big trouble. I thought about this today and it really got under my skin. The fact that grown men, or supposedly grown men, have to have things taken away from them in order to perform on a professional level is absolutely infuriating to me. I want us to do better but this just seems kinda sad to me. I'm not knocking the vets for "grounding" the kids but I'm just saying that on principle this is just lame and pretty dang embarrassing honestly.

And with the average career of an NFL running back at 2.57yrs I wouldn't be taking any crap from a quarterback until they put the dress on that matches their protected status in practice and on gameday.

i'm surethe whole meeting wasn't about how the young guys should act. i'm pretty sure the vets took a gut check with themselves too. they have to right this ship with the help of the young guys. losing and playing like this is unacceptable and they don't want the youngster's to get used to losing and that it's OK.

Gut check time. This team has historically played a hell of a lot harder with a hell of a lot less talent! I think this group knows they're talented, and actually believe that they know it, with all of the comments such as "we can't just expect to come in here and win on reputation" that we've all been hearing the last few years.

there has always been a HUGE divide in rookies vs their veteran counterparts on this team. I think that tends to be divisive for sure, and probably even more so now with the recent departures of a lot of old studs. Coaches or vets? Seems both do their part in this.

Seems these vets always acknowledge this sport as a business so if that's the case, then they need to check their egos and embrace whomever can come in and give the team a shot in the arm.

i said it in another post, you can't coach personal pride. I think we have a few me guys and a few paycheck collectors mixed in with a couple of hard hat ass busters.

hope those that get it, will address it as well as acknowledge their own lack of effort being put on display, and find their roots and lead by example.

In closing, I hope that we can have the skirts stripped from some of these half assers and expose them for the panty wearers they are... and those that know their days are short (some vets) will pride themselves in leaving a little bit of the legacy on the field!
