I wasn't calling anybody out for not having the money to attend a game, but was more or less referring to people saying basically they would go and spend the money if the team was doing good.
Here's the way I see it cheaper tickets for me . lol

Yes this is what Im saying. But I wouldn't say that they're just eating the tickets though. I doubt season ticket holders when they decide not to go (for whatever reason...crappy team, crappy weather) just pitch them into the garbage can. I would bet that they do try to sell them or give them away but there just isn't a demand for them like you would think. I've been stuck before. I had a guy who usually goes with me cancel the night before. It was a cold rainy December game against the Bengals and rather than scramble to find someone at the last minute, I decided to try my hand at scalping them. I figured they'd be in such demand that getting my money back should be no problem and that I'd even make a dollar or two. WRONG. I drove down to the stadium around 8am, parked on the North Side and walked around like an idiot. No takers. Not even at face value. After about an hour I approached a professional scalper about buying them. He said $40/ticket because he had dozens and couldn't get rid of them. I said no. After another 1/2 hr I approached another guy and asked for $40/ticket. He laughed at me, showed me the stack he had and said $20/ticket. And thats what I sold them for. I even tried to get rid of tickets here last season for face value. Should be easy right? Nope.

I've learned now and I have 3 or 4 people that I contact whenever I cant go. Usually I can get rid of them at face, but its still tough. Against Tenn 2 weeks ago, my neighbor had 4 tix together from work and wanted to take us making mine expendable. It took all the way to the 4th person on my list before they were sold. The other 3 all had some sort of excuse. Point being that all of the no shows aren't the result of rich stuffy yuppies (like some people suggest) who just disregard the tickets, its a LACK OF DEMAND.

As far as calling someone out for not spending more than a weeks pay, I agree. If you cannot afford to go to a game or just don't think its worth that kind of money, then fine. But when your reason for not spending the money is because the team is crappy, then THAT is exactly what Im referring to. And Im not calling someone out for it. Im not saying that they're less of a fan for it either. And Im not saying that I disagree with your logic. What I am saying is that you are no different than Bengals fans. Than Lions fans. Than Cardinal fans. Thats my point.

Kinda wish I had waited to buy my tix for the cleveland game. Probably could have gotten them for free now. My son and I may be the only ones sitting there in December. haha.

I take it you aren't paying my expenses...enough said

Maybe if fans started voicing their disapproval by not showing up at games, it will give the Rooney's a kick in the a$$ to start letting' heads roll over this lackadaisical "I don't give a crap" attitude with our team. Driving 650 miles to the past three AFC championship games in Pittsburgh in the snow-filled VA/WV mountains makes me a pretty damn loyal fan! But I'm sick and tired of seeing multi-millionaires laughing on the sidelines and on the field after completely embarrassing themselves. if they don't care, WHY SHOULD I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I performed at my job like they have lately, I'd be heading toward foreclosure on my house. It's time that these professional athletes start getting paid on production and not just showing up to the stadium.

As far as being a fairweather fan, I have the damn team emblem tattooed on my arm for God's sake, so save it! I'll still wake up in the morning, regardless of how you feel toward me...

I too have a Steeler tattoo. I don't feel like I'm a better fan than you. I do disagree with you that we need to boycott games though. I don't think this organization is in anyway deserving of that.

There are tickets for Sundays game on the NFL ticket exchange for half of face value. I have never seen that before for a regular season game. People are just about giving them away. I'm sure it has something to do with a Sunday night game and working Monday morning but half price, WOW!!!

bobby, the only trouble with scalping or giving them to other people is how those people act at the game. I could lose my seats and have nothing to do with it.

I'm with you. Every once in a while i cant go, so I sell them at face value to someone I know who will be a respectable fan.

Really wish I could make it out there. I'd jump on that, but, alas, I have too many time constraints I can't get out of.

What exactly do you have to do to lose them? Be like obnoxiously drunk or cuss a lot? I was telling some folks I met in Cincy the other night I was sitting close to the field because it seems when you sit in the nosebleeds the people are much more obnoxious. They agreed and said they will always pay more money to sit close to keep away from the more trashy people. I've sat in the club at Heinz and I've sat up top and I can say that I had a much better experience, people wise, by being in the club. Can you guys speak to this and also let me know if that's just us imagining things or it's a legit observation. Also can you tell me what it takes to lose the license to your seat?

You do know I have my finger on the proverbial trigger. Right? :mod::emperor::club::banned:

Yes, if my 40 years of demonstrative fandom being overruled by my need to pay the bills and feed my family negates my fan card, we may all have to turn them in. ;)

I sit in Club West, and would certainly hate to loose my license. There is a seat attendant in each section and if I or someone in my seat gets to far out of line, they will contact security and the seat is noted. Depending on how bad it was, I'll get a stern letter. Bad enough or repetative, and I would loose my seat license. Where the gray line is, I'm not sure.

At Three Rivers, I sat in peanut heaven surrounded by the same people for 30 years. I got to know them, and they were good people. I was also surrounded by people who had been season ticket holders for years before Three Rivers. Great fans. Now, I am surrounded by seats owned by businesses and 3/4 of the people are different every game. On one hand they don't get drunk and out of control. On the other hand they aren't big fans, spend more time coming and going, don't know the game or players and are generally unemotional. Dang good seats though.

I'm not saying to boycott the Steelers, and I'll gladly go watch a Steelers team that is retooling, rebuilding, etc. I don't need the team to win for me to justify spending $500+ on 2 tickets. I like seeing the Steelers live, win or lose. What I will not spend money on is this complete joke of a product the Rooney's are trying to pretend is football. We are a disorganized mess, from the ownership down to the players, and there's no excuse for it. Not even the Jets are this bad of a team. The Cardinals were considered to have arguably the worst Oline in the league going into this season, and yet they are doing just fine offensively. The Chiefs went 2-14 last year and they are now 3-0, having beat two good teams. Alex Smith makes our offence look like we should be playing high school football.

You can say I'm a bandwagon fan all you want, but there's nothing further from the truth. I'm fine with losses, and I'd be fine with rebuilding provided there's a plan in place and there's a light at the end of the tunnel. We are stuck in the middle of nowhere. We're not good enough to compete, yet we have no plan in place to rebuild either. We've been going downhill for years now yet we continue down this path of mediocrity.

Forget the 0-2 record, that's meaningless to me. What I do notice though is ownership overruling Tomlin with regard to coaches. Draft picks are almost all busts. Players aren't being coached up. Players are undsciplined. Players are fighting with coaches. Players are fighting with each other. Tomlin and Haley appear to hate each other and aren't communicating very well on the side lines (and even bumped each other, which appeared not to be overly friendly). We're arguably the biggest mess in the NFL right now and there doesn't appear to be a plan in place to fix things. Why would I spend $1,000+ on that (travel, hotel, tickets, food, booze, etc)? We have big problems on this team and it's time for the ownership to admit it and put a plan in place to fix it. Changing nothing when things are going wrong isn't the Steelers way.

Rooney overruled Noll before, it's their team they should be involved with decision making. This whole idea that owners shouldn't interfere with coaches is nonsense. Jerry Jones yes, but if you own a team you should be involved in who is employed by you.

Cower had words with other coaches before, nothing new here, if Haley isn't cutting it he'll be gone at the end of the year plain and simple. Head hunters will just have to wait.

I can agree that if a team is just not putting a good product on the field for a long time then I can see where some may feel they are not getting their money's worth, but this team has been highly successful for a long time, had a 8-8 season and have not looked good thus far this season, hardly justification to use that as a reason to not attend a game.

As far as developing talent, it does appear they are lacking in that department as of late. I don't think it's as bad as some make it out to be, but lacking none the less. If we were winning some of these close games these players would be looking much better to us.

A lot of these issues are the same issues we've had in the past, but we just didn't notice or pay attention enough because we were winning.

You know what's sad is there probably ARE people out there who would actually let their kids do without in order to support a certain team.

If I lived in Pittsburgh, I'd definitely go to a few, but living 650 miles away, I just don't see it happening. Plus, after being to the last three AFC Championships played in Pittsburgh and seeing all of the excitement, it just wouldn't be the same...

Just had the Tenn/Florida game on. Announcer said the whole upper deck was mostly empty. Guess that means they have fair-weather fans down there for a program that's top 20 and a full blown SEC meeting?
