Let me start by saying that even if we go 0-16 i will always love my steelers. I have seen the good years and the bad ones. I will say that after two games i am alittle pissed off. I cant even talk about the oline and type cause i get so mad i shake. Our qb has lost his nerve imo. Some of those throws last night were just horrible. I know as soon as he gets the ball he thinks he has no time but even when he had alittle last night he was chucking it downfield in hopes someone would run under it. I cant remember the last time the rb situation was this bad. The wr cant get open and we have te who probably couldnt play for anyone else. That covers the offense. The defense is an entirely different story. I watch other teams play and consistantly get turnovers and pressure and then i watch us. We play off the wrs and even when we blitz we dont get there. Sure we cant cause the qb to hurry but i want him on the ground. I dont think tomlin is the problem. I think he is a good coach. I think he needs to make some coord changes. I like lebeau but come on. We need to think about a new system. I know statistically we are good but that is not translating to wins anymore. Haley is horrible. Didnt like him as a head coach and like him even less now. I dont have answers and i will be there next week pulling as hard as i can but this team is gonna add to my gray hair collection

Well, it wasn't like these problems didn't exist in the off season and the pre season, that's when good coaches evaluates every position on their team, and make the corrections needed going into the regular season, we didn't, and now we are getting the results that was obvious based on last years performance...

Well, everyone here sum it up.

Offense: we need an offensive line. Period. These guys are worst than last year. They are the worst bunch I seen in a few years. Adams and Gilbert need help in the worst way. I watched Adams on coaches tape and he has the worst technique for an offensive tackle I ever seen. He needs at least two more years before he's ready. Gilbert is straight garbage. Bechum should be getting ready. I think DeCastro is feeling sorry for himself for what he did to Pouncey.

Defense: I love Dick Lebeau like everyone else but we need a new system. Forget the stats we need a new attacking style system that gets after the quarterback and emphasizes turnovers. I really hope he retires after this year.

One very alarming stat that I kind of assumed as I watched the game but that now has been confirmed that has me ready to vent:

    Jerricho Cotchery: 47 snaps
    Markus Wheaton: 5 snaps

Unless, we want to find ourselves at the bottom of the AFC North this year, we have to let our young rookies play.

Where is Wheaton?? Why is he not on the field?? Gilbert is horrible and the Ben/Haley should be terminated. Immediately. Its not working and they do not like each other. In fact, Im not even sure Tomlin likes Haley.

And 5859 is right. Our D scheme is old and tired. Watching our corners line up 10 yards off every receiver is annoying. Cant we watch some Seahawks tape?? Im kidding of course, but they are AMAZING.

... and remember the reason for keeping Cotchery was to help "coach up" our young recievers.

I was actually watching this from the stands last night and Tomlin and Haley don't get around each other much and I was paying attention to see if they do. I can't really say if that means anything though because I'm not at every game to see if that's normal and also I never paid attention when I was at the games that BA coordinated. Can anyone speak to that? I'm with you though FTB. I think they don't like each other.

I know injuries have hurt us. Heath and bell for sure. Hell even foote going down hurt because he had turned into one of our most consistant players.imo someone correct me if i am wrong but was lebeau no the d coord when we played the pats after the last time we played them brady picked us apart to the tune of 70 something pass attempts. Did we not stand everyone up and press the wrs? Pressure all night and beat them soundly. I may be wrong but i think he was. What happened to that coach? The one where u adjust to what they are doing. I was getting furious when dalton would stand up and hit green on a five yard hitch.

I talked about this last week after the Titans game. About how they give too much space to the WR. it was 3rd down and 7 last nite and Ike Taylor instead of lining up at the 1st down marker and waiting for Green to come to him he's backing up each yard Green takes toward him resulting in Green catching 3 1st down receptions right at the marker

    Positives:

    1. Cam Heyward look good.

    2. Special Teams was the better unit last night.

    3. Jarvis Jones looks like an impact player.

    4. Ike Taylor can still play.

    5. Moye came to play. I know one reception but look at when he came in. Off the bench in a pressure situation. Start the guy.

    6. Brett Keisel has something left.

So...at what point does Tomlin become the problem? What should we blame on Tomlin? What is he accountable for?? There are some on this board who seem to want to give Tomlin a pass in everything. He is the HEAD COACH. He is responsible for taking the talent that he has and putting a competitive product on the football field. He hasn't been doing a very good job of that lately and while I'm not ready to throw him under the bus, I'm starting to doubt his ability to lead us out of this valley.

Indeed, I think it is safe to say that there is quite a bit of dysfunction on this football team.

I can't say that Tomlin interacts with anyone of his coaches during the game other than via headset. HE is very much in the moment of the game. IT is his Zen thing

I don`t know how much I need to "vent", as much as I just need to say...
THIS SUCKS!!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! THIS IS NOT PITTSBURGH STEELER FOOTBALL!!!...
    O.k., there, I think I`m done.
I would agree with most of what has been said in this thread, EXCEPT for getting rid of LeBeau.
Yinz REALLY gonna pin our problems so far on the defense?!?
We haven`t given up over 20 points yet this year.
Ya really don`t think we should be able to score over 21 points a game, with Ben, and the rest of our offense?
    And the offensive friendly rules?
    And Haley?
Yeah, we got problems, and our D aint "perfect", but given the rules in favor of the Offense, in the NFL, right now, I think less than 20 points in a game, is pretty respectable.
There was actually a pretty good article on Yahoo`s homepage this morning, that I read, linking to the Wall Street Journal, of all places, about how defenses are at a disadvantage nowadays, and how they could do better to stop the scoring machine the league has become.
I tried to dig up a link before I posted this, and came up empty. Maybe someone with better "google skills" than me, could find what I was talking about.
It actually referenced the Seahawks defense, and how they would only have a couple "linemen" down in a stance, bfore the snap, with linebackers, and corner backs right over the center, while everyone else, just kinda stood around, like they didn`t know what was going on...
I noticed us doing something similar, in the Tennessee game.
I didn`t pay enuff attention in the Monday night to notice if we did it or not, but I didn`t notice it.
In the Ten. game, I actually posted sumthin about it in a thread here, about "what was "THAT???"...
Anyhow, it turns out, this is a different strategy used, to "disguise" defenses, because, nowadays, there is so much "hurry-up", fast paced offense, that the traditional disguising of defenses, (like we were known for),doesn`t work...
The offense is lining up, and snapping the ball so quick, that ya don`t really have time to "show" them one "read" or another...
They are just gonna run what they are gonna run, and not take time to "read" a defense, too much.
So, you just basically put your best playmakers, in the middle of the field, and let them react to where the ball goes.
It`s much more detailed than that, of course, I am just trying to summarize a trend, and point out that our very own Dick Lebeau, has been at the forefront of it, but doing it in a way that doesn`t tip his hand, too much, at least to casual fans.
There is also some interesting talk in the article about how the "traditional middle linebacker"(a big guy geared to stuff the run), is becoming obsolete, as teams are going so much in favor of the pass, over the run.
It was a short article. Wish I could find it, because I`m sure it would generate some interesting debate here.
One of the other points it made, was how Seattle has basically, been stockpiling "defensive end types" outta college, and turning them loose on the field, in "non-traditional" roles.
They might call em a linebacker, cornerback, or whatever, but not use them in those positions, or use those positions the way they are expected to be used... would be the gist of it, if I am explaining this right...
Like I said, I noticed LeBeau doing this a bit in the first game. I was thinking, ":what the hell is everyone doing standing up, without their hands on the ground", kinda walking around, like they didn`t know what their assignment was...
Turns out, I was right, there was some method to his m"madness"...
I also remember the Clowns experimenting with this a season or 2 ago.
I forget what they called it.
"angry swarm" defense, or something like that,
It`s basically a way to combat the "read-option", "hurry-up" fast paced offenses, that limit your substitions, by always having your most athletic 11 guys on the field, as opposed to having a couple/few HUGE guys, 4 or 5 Medium sized guys, and a couple small, but fast, guys on the field, at any given time.
IT was an interesting read. Surprised it was in the "Wall Street Journal". If anyone can find it, it`s worth a read.
    GO STEELERS!
