You can say that about Decastro, but I think it's more the lack of coaching more than it is the kids fault, he is a student and all he needs is a good teacher, plus that knee set him back a lot, I think Faneca could coach this kid up better than any of the coaches we presently have...

Yes Ben threw way over the WRs heads last night. But i dont think we give up on Ben at all. He still has the ability but we lack good WRs/TE/FB. I dont really think you can blame Haley 100%, i mean he is the 2nd OC we've had during the Tomlin yrs and we lacked offensively with both OCs. Maybe the real blame is Tomlin. Arians had the 30 bubble screens per game but Haley had the End-a-round using Crotchery. Who uses him being the slowest WR on the steelers roster?

So which offense do we have the talent to run? School yard ball might work but it will, as it's done in the past, get Ben killed.

    1. We have no feature running back
    2. We have no blocking tight ends and our receiving tight ends can't hold on to the ball
    3. Our offensive line can't run block
    4. Our offensive line can barely pass protect
    5. Our QB had trouble reading defenses and hasn't looked sharp since he got hurt last year - some but not all of that could be system-related

We have some serious issues that aren't going away no matter who coaches. The personnel on offense now versus the personnel that won the Super Bowls is a big drop off.

Some people have been saying Haley's been running a square peg in a round hole offense for over a year.

I'd get a real Oline coach and help on the Dline/Linebacker before I went after more offensive lineman. We need protection and run block as well as pressure on defense.

Neither HALEY or TOMLIN have any idea on game situations! Case in point was when Paulson fumbled on the long completion which had us at the 15 yard line. Ben was rushing everyone up to the line to quick snap a play to avoid Cinci throwing a challenge flag BUT what did Haley do, he had subs going into the game which delayed things and thus Ben could not get the play ran and thus the call was reversed, bye-bye momentum! I guarantee you that teams like NE, BALT, DVR, GB and probably a few others get that play snapped or at least don't try and sub players in! I could not fricken believe that! Haley and Tomlin, please get a damn clue or take a hike!

I agree with a lot of what your saying and made a thread virtually saying a lot of this, or at least meant it to be.

    what do we do?

try to put a few players in place to help ben now, or build a team around a future qb when ben will be gone?

this isn't going to be an overnight rebuild. i'm guessing 3-4 years to have it all in place and working well. by that time our qb, TE, OLB'er, ILB'er and a few others will be at the end of their careers. it's a much bigger picture then just this year or last night.

that's what I was trying to get at. only the rooney's can make that call. maybe kevin Colbert is where they will start.

That was a huge blunder on Haley's part. Paulson should have held onto the ball and finished the play, but Haley sending in subs was beyond stupid.

What we need is another Jerome Bettis. Until we can run over people, defenses won't respect the run and tee off on our QB and receivers.

I think the biggest team needs are as discussed below:

    1. QB - Ben needs to get his accuracy better. We know he can win, he just hasn't shown it this year.

    2. RB - I will wait to see what Bell does before I declare this position a "need", but with the lack of holes, I'm not sure it matters who runs the ball.

    3. FB - WJ is fine.

    4. WR - This is a NEED. IMO we need a true #1 receiver, but that guy MUST be Big and Physical. A guy who can use his size to create mismatches.

    5. Oline - I still think our starters will be fine here, we are just so darn young on the Oline. Depth needs to be addressed, but at the moment I wouldnt' sink a bunch more draft picks into the position.

    6. TE - Heath is getting old and is coming off a major injury. We have ZILCH behind him. We need to draft Heath's eventual replacement and use him as the 2nd TE for a while.

    7. Defense - The biggest need here is playmakers...guys who can get pressure and create turnovers. We have guys who fill every role I am happy with, but we just need more playmakers.

So for me...on offense. Give me 1 BIG, Physical WR and one top notch TE.

A WR I would look at would be Mike Evans. He is big, physical and FAST.

A TE I would look at would be Eric Ebron. He has the tools I think we need at the TE position. Some guys ranked above him are pass catchers only and can't block.

I hate to think our offense depends so highly on a 2nd round draft pick. Sad....

We NEED Bell to be the real deal.

we have a bad team because we had several bad drafts or we didn't develop properly the rookies we drafted .
this team lacks talent expecially on the new ones . pouncey allen and brown are the only good players we draft in the last 5 years that are still on the team , jury is still out about weathon bell jonesnd maybe decastro

I think we're in for a rebuild this time, not a reload. We need to rebuild up front on both sides of the ball. I think the Oline needs depth and coaching and the defense needs to add a couple of playmakers.

The Titans got much better in the offseason but they were able to spend $100 million on free agents. We don't have that luxury just yet. It may take some time to turn this, especially with some disappointing recent drafts. Can't have the misses we did and remain competitive.

I think our offence would look much better with Heath and another tight end who can block/catch. we have nothing to scare anybody over the middle so they jam our small outside guys and double cover behind it. I think it was about even between bad throws by ben and guys not getting to where they should be. I don't have a lot of hope for paulson after watching him get up and take a few steps towards the bench before even realizing he fumbled
on defence d-line ziggy hood, cameron heyward, steve mclendon none of these guys can protect our linebackers and so we get no pressure. Right now we have 4-3 linemen playing in a 3-4. we need the next aaron smith. ryan clark was terrible last night too.

on the positive side? velasco looked like our best lineman last night - adams looked better
ike still has it and troy looks good

For consideration: Had the offense not turned the ball over twice (TE fumble and Ben INT) then we MIGHT have scored enough to at least stay in the game and maybe even win. The Steelers don't generally blow teams out. The offense just needed to be more disciplined, last night.

I agree with the posts about Ben being out of synch with his receivers. But it was a little of both: 1) Ben mis-throws and 2) receiver drops.

The O-Line is what it has been: suspect.
