I know after yesterday things look grim but lets remember it is MNF and no one shows up for Monday night like the Steelers. Mike Tomlin is 8 of 10 on Monday night and 6-11 on Sunday nights which supports my belief that I would rather have a MNF match-up than NBC's SNF because the team just plays better. How much better? Well going back to 92 when Cowher was named head coach he went 18-26 on MNF including an impressive 11 for 11 in his first five years. So from 1992 til 2012 the Steelers hold a 26 of 36 record on MNF which is not bad in my book. I look for a surprising display on Monday that has everyone going where was this team against the Titans?

Maybe it is just Bocephus and his mojo that does it.

Don't forget that a big reason for that was "Mr. Monday Night" James Harrison.

The trends are in our favor for sure, but none of that matters. These aren't the usual Bungles...

The Trends. Edge: Steelers. [IMG] [IMG]
History: Steelers have won 10 of the last 13 meetings.
Ben Roethlisberger is 30-17 ATS vs. the AFC North.
Ben Roethlisberger is 17-11 ATS as an underdog.
Mike Tomlin is 19-13 ATS after a loss (4-1 ATS after being a favorite).
Bengals are 12-27 ATS as a favorite since 2007.
Andy Dalton is 0-4 ATS as a favorite coming off a loss.
Marvin Lewis is 4-9 ATS in nationally televised regular-season games.
    Opening Line: Bengals -6.

Bocephus isn't with MNF anymore though. I REALLY hope you're right because I'm going to the game and I can tell you that any time I've watched a game in Cincy we have won it. So there's that too.

This isn't the titans defense ben will be playing against Monday night with a worse Oline than he had sunday, don't depend on trends to win this game, we don't have a big receiver to stretch the field like the bengals have in green, Haley's dink and dunk isn't going to work in this game, and marvin lewis knows all he has to do is stop the run, which we don't have a running game anyway, blitz a lot, and he will have this game in the bag, it don't look good, and i'm just being honest about our chances in this game....

While I agree with most of your sentiment. We need to figure out how to neutralize their DL, and I say don't even bother trying to run much to be honest. Being balanced is overrated. Run the occasional draw to keep them on their toes.

Their secondary can be beat. I think Brown, Sanders, and Cotch are all matchup problems for any of their corners after Leon Hall. There's rumors of Heath returning... If he does, figure out how to get him in coverage with Mauluga.

History doesn't matter with this team. We are rewriting a different history with this bunch.

I posted on another thread during the preseason about matchups with our oline. I took the Titans starting down linemen and the Bengals starting down lineman and match them against our oline. I almost threw up. And now with Pouncey gone, we can't suffer another injury to the oline for the rest of the season or you will see the first forfeit.

Yeah, and our team was perfect for the last decade in home openers.

I would suggest that this Monday night will not be about the defense. We, the fans, may make it so, but that doesn't make it right. The bottom line here is that Ben, the offense, and Todd Haley got a pass last year because Haley's system was new. It's been our mantra that the defense will shut down the other team, and we will win by attrition (recall Tomlin's comments when he got hired).

However, it's simply not that kind of game anymore. Say what you want, but the fact the Chip was able to orchestrate an offensive plan that usually ONLY works in college, yet left the Redskins stunned, is proof in the pudding that times have changed. Don't get me wrong... a bruising, relentless, disruptive and intimidating defense is always part of a successful recipe, but the offensive production is very much a mix of Haley and the players. If they are not on the same page, our defense will continue to get blamed for not being perfect.

Here's my thought. Someone do the math for me. There's an average pts/yards per game that all offenses have from season to season. But, our offense needs to give Dick and boys and fighting chance.

Based on a notional analysis, I would say that our offense needs to come up with somewhere between 21-30 pts a game. That's a big spread, but if we average the low end of this (21), we're bound to be mediocre. When Ben and co. post +21 pts. per game.... I'll consider putting some blame on LeBeau...in the the meantime.....

Ben and co. need to produce. Period. I certainly hope Todd is getting very little sleep this week.

if the Steelers are going to have any chance this season they need this game. they cannot start 0-2 with one of those loses being to a division team.

the offense cant be as bad as it was sunday. im not resting my hopes on Heath or Bell playing, but if Heath can play and hes healthy, that would give the offense a lift, but unfortunately he would spend most of the time staying in blocking. and if thats going to be the case i see no real reason to play him. i think the last think you want is a guy coming of a knee injury and making him block all game.

the Bengals are a good team that lost to a good team on the road. this is going to be tough, but its a division game and its going to be close. i think its gonna come down to who settles for field goals. unfortunately we all know too well that thats usually the Steelers problem, but lets hope they can somehow turn this thing around. i dont think i can handle an 0-6 start. yes the preseason does count.

Agreed. I usually don't pick the Steelers to lose, but quite frankly, with the matchups this week, I would be surprised if we won. The only outcome I want to see from this game is a healthy Big Ben, which really could be a lot to ask for.

There are QB CAREER ENDERS playing on the other side of the ball this week, pray it doesn't happen. Think back to Troy Aikmen.

I'll be at the game. Maybe if things get really bad I'll help them out. I mean I couldn't be any WORSE could I? I think a 5'4 170lb lineman could be exactly what this team needs.
