Why wasn't Polamalu's Locker Leap considered a sack?

I noticed that Polamalu didn't get credit for a sack when he leaped over the line and tackled Locker yesterday. Any idea why that is?

It looked like a running play, I guess.

Am I right in thinking that unil the QB takes a certain number of steps, it's officially a run and not a pass?

I think you may be right. I guess, stat wise, you can't determine whether it was going to be a passing when he gets nailed so quickly.... But at the same time, it's a QB getting tackled behind the line of scrimmage, so...???

By that same token, why wasn't Troy flagged for touching the helmet of Locker? If they're going to call a blow to the head shouldn't they do it every time?

Not that the Titans needed any help from the refs, mind you.
