Look; the way that both teams are playing right now, we're not going to beat the 49ers in Candlestick on Monday night even with Ben at 100%. If we can't beat the lousy Rams and Clowns with Charlie Batch (or any other competent backup) at QB to finish the year at 12-4, we don't deserve to make the playoffs. As sad as this is to say, we lost any shot at the division title when we choked away a late lead to the freaking Ratbirds at home. It's all about locking up a wild-card slot and getting our players healthy to play in January right now

We WILL beat the Niners. They're soft.

With Ben - I agree. Without him, I'm not so sure, unless they come up with some good game-planning using Batch/Dixon like they did in 2010. The Niners aren't as good as their record, and given the Steelers propensity to play up/down to their opponents, I think this could be a win.

In my mind, a lot will be determined on the Sunday BEFORE the Niners game. Baltimore AT San Diego. Also, Cincy's performance in the next two games will clarify things more. IF the Rats beat San Diego and the Bengirls lose another game, I think a division championship is out of reach and we shouldn't be concerned with the result of the Niners game. It won't really matter anyway. If, however, the Rats LOSE to the Chargers OR the Bengirls are still in the playoff hunt come Week 17, we have a shot and need to figure out a way to win the Niners game.

We will beat the 49ers because they are better competition and we will be ready

I agree that we will dust them if we have a healthy/effective Big Ben in the lineup. I'm not sure it will be the same if we have to use Batch/Dixon. And - as I stated above - that decision may be one that can be made based on the Baltimore/SD matchup. If Baltimore loses, I don't care if they send Ben out in a wheelchair - he HAS to play. If Baltimore wins, I say sit Ben and get Batch or Dixon ready.

:this!: I don't even think it will be a question. He'll still be hurting, but I don't think he misses that game for the world.

I think if Batch gets to actually practice with the first team for a long weeks worth of work we could pull it off. I'd rather Ben of course, but the team needs to be strategic based on Ben's health and for once admit they are looking down the road for once. You can't jeopardize the future for one game. One BIG game...

At least we will no shortage of stuff to worry about for the next 10 days.

I agree with oldschool. If batch practices with our first strings he will do a lot better. He was 3-1 last year when there was so many saying we were done 0-4 or 1-3 at best. I personally would like to see Ben sit. Our toughest test is the 49ers. I want a healthy Ben for the playoffs. I know he won't be 100% by then but he will be a lot healthier. We rely on him to extend plays with his feet. How is he going to do that up against better defenses in the playoffs if the steelers don't allow him to rest and get ready these next few weeks. Our steelers need to step it up for Ben especially after last nights play.

    :herewego!:

With Ben at 100%, we beat them, even in Candlestick. However, Ben will not be at 100%........

It's no secret that we play down to the level of our competition.. that's how we destroyed NE and Cincy yet nearly lost to Indy KC and now the Brownies. After 10 days rest we will show up.
