No surprise there Jones will get a lot of playing time rookies don't start for Dick LeBeau. Jones will sub for both Woodley and Worilds whatever it takes to improve the pass rush over last season.

Not a surprise but it will be a surprise if he hasn't over taken Worilds by mid season. You can just tell by watching Jones play that he has the "it" factor.

Tomlin was asked yesterday in the press conf. will the three OLB play in rotation for the Titans game. Tomlin answered with a Big Grin ..."Jones is going to play" One would have to be blind as how coach T has favored Jones from day one. Worilds better bring his A game each time he sets the field cause Jarvis is only a shirt tail away from the job!

what is more interesting is that Woodley also will
be rotated, Is that telling you something? The Steelers
are tired of not getting their money's worth

That's just more of Tomlin's strategy to keep the OLB's on their toes you know like musical chairs an equal opportunity!

Kinda like the running back by committee approach. Instead it's OLB by committee :lolol:

I can see we won't get any pressure from the right side until Jones gets on the field.

Not getting all the jones love. He had zero sacks in preseason and only one move. He looked slow to me. Was he awful, no, but not the second coming of Lloyd at this point. I hope he turns out to be great, cause lord knows we need him. I was hyped we got him, but so far a little disappointed in his ability to get to the qb.

Well if sacks are your only measuring stick then yeah, you'll be disappointed. I don't know what his exact numbers were but he had fumble recoveries, pressures, tackles, I thought he had at least a sack but he was around the football a lot, which will only lead to good things. Guess everyone sees things differently but when I see him on the field, I just see a ton of talent and a guy that will make things happen.

Dont get me wrong, I'll take the turnovers. But for someone who led college fb in sacks over the last two yrs, what's missing? Like I said I am hoping he turns out great.

More like coach T waiting / watching for one of the outsides to fail so he can start Jones he wants him in there sooner than latter! By committee

i'm kind of stoked about the OLB by committee thing and even carter if he quits thinking and just plays, like he did when his job was on the line in the last preseason game, we could be hard to handle. I think carter just let his hair down and played football in that last game and his skills they first saw in him finally came through.

being a force with our OLB'ers again will allow other factions of the defense to preform better too. (Timmons and the DE's)

not to mention our new force at NT. we should be an even better defense this year. I've got high hope for this group.

Unless Worilds plays lights out, this will probably be his last start.

Weird that I keep seeing that article about Woodley doesn't think there will be a rotation.

I wonder about the communication inside the team.

Should be one team one voice.

I don't know if it will be a true rotation more of packages. I'm stoked to see the psycho package this year. Timmons, Wood, Jones, Worilds, and Carter all on the field at the same time with Vic mac the anchor could make things really interesting.

I think right now, the FO has some guys very nervous. That is what leads to these kind of comments. It has already happened more than once this year.

    Woodley...I don't expect a rotation.
Tomlin......Expect to see Jones brought in on a rotation.

Redman....I don't think a running back by committee works. I want bulk of carries.
Tomlin......Until Bell comes back we will be running back by committee.

This wreaks of a leadership issue. Tomlin needs to get back control of his locker room. I can tolerate it this week, but Tomlin (who I am a fan of) needs to make sure this isn't happening as the year goes on.

As a note to the players, when you are asked a question about playing time or strategy from a reporter...here is your answer.

"You will need to ask coach. I'm just going to go out and do my job to the best of my ability and do what the coach asks me to do."

Now post that answer in your locker rooms and keep your stinkin' mouths closed.

Wow, not sure what it is you're expecting from a rookie in preseason and one who is trying to learn DL's schemes. I have to admit I think this is the first i've heard of someone not impressed with how Jones has looked so far. I'm excited about what he will bring to our D and think he's gonna be a big factor. He seems to have a nose for the ball as I thought he was around it an awful lot. The guy makes plays. He has definitely flashed some of the "it" factor imo.

eh, to each his own i suppose :)

you keep going back to last year for some reason. this team is very different than last years. 19 different players on this one then last year. I guess the ravens will win the SB too, they did last year.:cool:

Mac...you didn't know this already? All this time I thought you were a football guy! I have never understood comparing a team to the previous year. You can form some basic judgements that MIGHT hold true such as schemes, style of play, etc., however, each year they have new players added and the older guys change too (hopefully for the better). If you want another example here look no further than the Patriots. I find it odd that no one (meaning the "experts") has really questioned how good or bad they are going to be. They are a completely different team than they were last year and, if it wasn't for playing in the AFC East, might not even be a play-off team this year. Oh, well!

Tarheel your finally starting to realize, that the players coach is full of BS. I feel coach T does not know how to handle these ball players. Nor do they trust him, I am surprised it has taken this long for some of these players to realize this.He is all talk and NO action. You will always have problems when you let the prisoners run the asylum. They have TUNED him out. There is a serious communication problem with Coach T and his players and it shows up in TO', penalties, ST's which in turn loses games.

Sounds like a man in control to me...

    Tomlin.

I believe I wrote last year that Mike Tomlin was not appreciated as much outside of Pittsburgh as he deserved to be. I think I was mistaken. The opposite may actually be true. Admiration for the Steelers head coach seems to be growing from the outside. It can be muted in some cases within the Nation. Two factors contribute. First there is the perfectionist streak that exists among some fans. Any fan base that contained persons who seriously advocated throwing Chuck Noll under the bus in the midst of a four Lombardi championship run are capable of all kinds of boneheaded atrocities. And as was pointed out in a recent fan post, though generally an enlightened bunch, there is some racism lurking in the weeds out there. I grew up in Pittsburgh and anyone who has would not be shocked by such a revelation.

One of the slanders directed toward Tomlin is that he is overly tolerant of his players and staff. That perception may be the result of our stereotype of the coaching disciplinarian. This would be the ranting, screaming martinet, a crazed control freak (or maybe someone who spits when he gets excited). Tomlin certainly respects the men on his team to have the agency to function responsibly. It is also clear that in some cases they have hung themselves with the extra rope their coach has given them, and once that happens, they are held accountable like men and are gone.

Consider the decisions rendered on Weslye Saunders, Chris Rainey and now, Jonathan Dwyer. The tolerance for knuckleheaded behavior on this team is low and dropping. In his early years players were admonished to not be That Guy who would be outed if he brought embarrassment and dishonor to himself and the team. But it seems now that it is increasingly the case that these individuals are likely to be quickly shown the door. Ta'amu wasn't even retained on the practice squad. And I'm thinking that Tomlin and his staff probably lost more sleep when they cut Baron Batch, who did everything that he was asked to do, than Dwyer who had to have the proverbial gun to his head before he did a little thing like report in proper shape. In this sense Tomlin is not just being priggish. When trying to achieve that championship edge the little things are the big things.

In recent hours it has been rumored that the decision to part ways with Dwyer was done over the objections of the coaching staff. Possible. If you thought that any of the Steelers head coaches have enjoyed total control over the past 44 years you are sadly mistaken. Chuck Noll on more than one occasion was ordered to fire some of his assistants. If Tomlin is not behind these moves its probably the Rooneys, particularly Dan. Looking at him and listening to him speak, it might not be your first thought. But remember this man fired his brother. He's going to have done what he thinks is right and if toes are stepped on in the process, so be it.

On the other hand I'm not sure I completely buy the rumor. Several veterans have commented upon the refreshing attitudes that they have found with the rookie class. This is probably not a coincidence. Talent is not the only factor of consideration in the selection process. Troy has commented upon the improvement in team chemistry. Dwyer and Ta'amu didn't fit the model. Tomlin may not have been the sole author of this, but I doubt he had to have his arm twisted to go along. Bottom line is that leadership (some combination of ownership, other front office and the coaching staff) have dialed the tolerance level way down. Tomlin has said that he is unsentimental, and based upon the moves of past few days that statement seems to carry more bite than previously.

To me the message of the past few days from leadership is that they'll fire anybody to get where they intend to go. I suspect the team, those who remain, have gotten the message.
