He’s an open tackle machine. The day they let him walk I knew was a big mistake. Got heart for the game and it’s pure. 4 solo tackles so far in a bit over a half.

Couldn't cover I believe. Right? He had 300 plus tackles with the Raiders for two seasons. He has about 590 something for all 8 seasons. I remember him getting burned quite often, but to be fair, they all did during his tenure here.

The annual the Steelers should've kept Spillane thread , he's slow there was a play where Drew Lock ran by him.

His current coaches design schemes that play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses......
    Imagine that

I always like Spillane. Thought he was a pretty good player. Had a pick-6 against the rats.

I always used to laugh when I'd hear fans complain about a LB because "he couldn't cover Keenan Allen" (for some reason it's always Keenan Allen I think of torching our ILBs) instead of "WTF is a 250 pound linebacker trying to cover the other team's best receiver?"

One of the perks of the Tomlin defense. Having our ILB's cover WR's all over the field. Unfortunately for Tomlin, there aren't really any more Ryan Shazier's running around.

He thought he found another Ryan Shazier in Devin Bush, but we all know how that turned out.

My nightmare was Ray Rice I think he caught over half his career yards against our LB'S on 3rd. and long..I remember watching him motion to the slot and out trotted a 250 lb, LB to play him, i threw a lot of stuff during those plays , I even jammed a toe kicking the metal bar stool once.

So change the entire defense to cover the deficiencies of one player

    Makes sense to me

My nightmare was when we would put a midget DB on Gronk and all they had to do was toss the ball higher than the shrimp

I remember that as well , I had a bit more hope as at least it took Gronk a minute to get open we had some chance of a high throw or a sack .. With Ray it was boom he beats the LB a 2 yard pass and a 20 yard gain at least..lol The rest of the Offense didn't even seem to move ...

They probably named that play 1st. Down on 1 .. Break..

I rember one time Levon Kirkland at 275 was the deep man on a long pass and did not get beat

Remember Gave Rivera in his short career

At about the 20 yard line going the long way he stunted around left and the pass was a quick one to the right

It took Rivera about 72 yards but he ran the WR down from the back and tackled him short of the goal line

He was on the road to being great

    Rest in peas

Spillane and Dotson. Two players we did not value.
